Nah im just a kiwi who likes languages man, plus Russians are always keen to help so it isn't so hard to get an explanation and learn more. I plan to go to Russia and some other slav places this year. I just wanna get Russian down before I go.

I started about a month ago, I wish to do it to a point where I can discuss politics and read Russian newspapers and understand news on TV. So far I can have basic conversation, I can write pretty well. Also meeting Russians is a lot easier, it's just nice to indulge in such a language I guess.

Aha, don't get me wrong but Russian is not an easy language to learn for an english speaker i mean, so you'd need a lot of time and effort. Do you have any other languages you know yet?

I understand German and half did French, but both languages feel kinda useless to me besides people that come here to NZ. Also I can write a little Chinese since there are lot of them here I thought it'd be cool to write my order for them.
Russian so far feels a lot nicer than any Asian language and things like Finnish or Hungarian. Plus I'm happy to put extra time in for Russian, so far it's the gist of remembering the use of things like ш, щ, я, ь and ю. But that's it. Everything feels nice so far.

That's weird if you find German and French less useful than Russian. Who studies Russian even? It's hardly comparable to those who study Spanish or German etc. Not sure what you meant about the comparison with the asian languages but just in case Russian is not an asian language, maybe i got you wrong and you mean it as "hard level" languages. How do you like the pronunciation, rolled R is the best aint it?

I didn't mean to relate it to DE and FR on usefulness but more on enjoyment, I just like pronouncing and speaking Russian. It's hard to describe but it's like having 3 bikes but always riding a specific one. Its also more impressive to speak Russian because it's harder than common languages like FR or DE. when I say здpaвcтвyйтe to a Russian they light up, I guess it's just appreciative to hear an outsider say something in your mother tongue. I do like to roll R's but I also like the з and the syllables in пoнимaю. I just enjoy the language. It feels like unmarched grounds desu

Kek that's nice if you're so full of motivation, keep it up. In my memory i can only remember like five people who were THAT into Russian. Hope you're using something else except Duolingo. Try to use rutracker.org, in case you don't know it's sort of a russian thepiratebay but better. There is definitely some literature for foreigners who study Russian.
