What do you guys think is a good laptop for music production?

What do you guys think is a good laptop for music production?

I don't know much about music production, so take my words with a grain of salt, but I think if you're going to put an album together, a laptop probably wouldn't be the way to go. However, I know the MacBook Pro has a reputation for being great with music-related stuff. Except recently, Apple got rid of all the ports and sort of underpowered it this year, so...

Honestly, I think this is more of a thread for or maybe /prod/.

Anything with over 16 GB of RAM and a strong processor will do fine. Also, USB ports all over the damn place.

This, Macbook Pro is your way to go.

Get a MacBook Pro, (2015). The 2016 version is absolute shit.

honestly just get a decked out thinkpad
only get the macbook if you're planning to be a touring artist

at home stuff all depends on how much you can afford price wise

Are any before 2015 decent?

>music production
for what purpose

Fucking around making beats

This, the 13' model is fucking god tier. 15 is good too but 13 hits a good sweet spot for price/performance.

Probably not. They're basically the same as the '15 but older, which means they're probably going to show their age in performance. '15 is only a bit more than a year and a half old, so it should last long enough for Apple to make a computer that's actually good again.

Not OP, but also wondering; what if I don't like macOS? Then what?

mid-2012 non retina macbook pro is GOAT for bedroom production.

Well then you're going to have to use Windows, which is fine as well. Linux is not really an option, since there are basically no good DAWs for Linux. Look around for some good Windows laptops and youll be fine.

so glad i got my mbp in summer 2015, before they fucked it up and raised prices (for brexit)

Build a desktop.

...Iglooghost? Is that you?

Sad!

not every british person is iglooghost whoever that is

Don't listen to these fucking memers. Macs are overpriced as fuck.

Just get any standard laptop with at least 4gb of ram and you're fine.

...

if your purpose is making beats you don't need that overpriced mac garbage

Show me a computer with a 2015 13' macbook pro's build quality, battery life, and performance for 1100 or cheaper. I'll wait. Oh and the fucking god tier touch pad, literally no other laptops have a touchpad that good.

something with at least an i5 and 8 gigs of ram. Solid state drives are good for performance but a decent sized one can get pricey.

>macbook pro's build quality
Good luck paying for a brand new macbook when a single component fails
>battery life
Why would you ever be in a position where you're producing music without a power source?
>god tier touch pad
please tell me you're joking
>2016
>not using a mouse in your home studio

Of course it's not going to beat a desktop. If you're on the move, it's one of the best tools you can get. I use a windows machine I've built myself for all of my recordings, macbook for gigs and practices.

The only argument I'd fight is the touch pad, you've obviously never tried it. You're definitely right on the component failure though, but honestly how long do you expect these things to last?

What about comfy acoustic stuff
