Hey fags, I'm trying to get into Tool but why are all of their songs like 10 minutes long? I don't have all day naw mean?

Shut up and listen.

if it wasn't 10 minutes long, then you wouldn't have time to get truly sick and tired of how fucking repetive it is. you would just be plain ol' annoyed.
TIL there are ten minutes in a day
Only a handful of their songs are that long. Go back to Nickelback
the first three albums have shorter songs for the attention span challenged. or yeah like that other user said, go back to listening to creed and godsmack or whatever.
Are you retarded?
Fuck off then poser
if they were shorter they wouldn't be so good. Their songs change and progress its progressive metal you weiner
> "Tool is basically mainstream these days"
either bait or you're literally a autistic hipster
go hang yourself
stick to the music videos
Mainstream does not mean the same thing as "pretty much fading out"
>songs changing meter constantly
>sometimes 100+ times a song
>verses starting at different markers than the last
>lyrical repitition is uncommon in verses
Listen to Stinkfist
Once you are not 16 you can start
Just read up after so you don't miss the fan disses

The cringe in this thread is real. If you guys listen to Tool please stop to save yourself from embarrassment. Really
Here's the deal. If someone like me likes Tool, it's basically mainstream. I am about as average and 'Normie' as it gets. Tool listeners aren't hard to find. I can walk down any street in my Midwestern town and find many. Tool is popular and people who you don't think listen to them actually do. Now go fuck yourselves, hipsters.
A true hipster would never admit to liking Tool. You are immediately uncool if you like Tool. You're not deep, you don't like cool music, you're not smart, you're not edgy. You're exclusively just lame
Parabola is so true about our nature of existence it goes over the heads of more than 99.9 percent of those that hear it. I don't think he knows how hard he hit the nail on the head because of what he came out with after. Drugs fuck people up because they realize things before their conciousness is ready for them.
Fuck off. I'll listen to whatever the fuck I want. I'm not trying to be cool. I could give a fucking shit what people think, especially anonymous faggots on the Internet.
Go with Aenema first.
Go through the albums chronologically. Give Opiate a couple of listens, then get deep into Undertow and Aenima. Give Lateralus a good listen too, but go no further - 10,000 Days sounds like all the tracks that weren't good enough to end up on Lateralus. It's like Tool trying to make a Tool album instead of just making an album.
Or just don't bother at all if you don't want to and skip straight to better shit.
Underage detected
>true hipster
u mad
Best shit ever, end to end. Eulogy being the best fucking song ever recorded.
Harsh man, creed is worse than getting your ear raped by a gorilla
Take your millennial lack of attention span and jam it up your pokemon finding ass, you little shit.
I fucking hate new wave Tool 'fans'...
>I'm 15 and this is deep.
>Fibonacci is everywhere.
Wish Gaynard would quit this puscifer/perfect circlejerk shit and go back to angry undertow Maynard...
Well, take a look at lateral us for example. Research the song itself and the meaning behind it. Prepare for a total mind blowout when you listen to it again after reading about it.
that song is clearly a love song. You're overanalyzing it. What he's talking about is being with a significant other, his love for her is so much stronger than all of the pain and suffering in life.
Depends on how much heroin you're doing. If it seems like 10 min. you're not high enough. If you're not leaving your body and manipulating your consciousness while the music guides you, you're not high enough. And if you are actually high
Who are you to wave your finger?
You are thinking of schism I believe. I always thought Parabola was about the next level of human consciousness which meant casting away the shell of the human body and transcending everything that it comes with.
'We are eternal, all this pain is an illusion.'
That song is about embracing apophenia. All those weird beliefs and shit he has, even though they aren't strictly logical, he believes in whatever bewilders him. That creative thought makes life and your outlook on life so much more interesting. But at the same time it separates you from reality.
If you've ever experienced this before, you'll know exactly what he's talking about. I didn't get it the first 100000 times i listened to it but once I realized it literally every lyric makes sense. Overthinking and overanalyzing things, thinking for yourself rather than believing in traditional thought, its extremely freeing in a way. Even though your thinking might not be tied to reality, you feel so much more independent.
>apophenia
Mind fucking blown, I hate that old 'golden ratio' fall back cunts use to explain the lyrics of that song.
What else would you be doing with that ten minutes? If you're not into proggy shit, you're not into proggy shit, but you're missing out if all that's keeping you away is the song length.
I thought it was about banging.
>Literally one song
Omg so repetitive
Tool isn't deep.
My tool is.
Haha nice one op
No I'm thinking about parabola. Schism is more about a separation between people in a relationship or on any scale really.
Read these lyrics:
We barely remember who or what came before this precious moment
We are choosing to be here right now
Hold on, stay inside...
This holy reality, this holy experience
Choosing to be here in...
This body, this body holding me
Be my reminder here that I am not alone in...
This body, this body holding me, feeling eternal
All this pain is an illusion
He's talking about being with a loved one, and the moment he's sharing with her and the love he feels is so strong, he forgets about the entire world around him. All that matters is his other. They're choosing to live in that moment forever, eternal. The world around them is meaningless, all the pain and suffering is an illusion. All that matters is this holy experience he's sharing. It's actually extremely poetic and beautiful one of my favorite songs by far.
"I have an abnormally wide set vagina"
Opiate
Stinkfist
Parabol/Parabola
Jimmy
Vicarious
The Pot
Wings for Marie/10000 Days
Listen to full albums faggot
Also the idea of him having to "stay inside" and "hold on", he's trying to make the moment last. Like meditation, he's focusing on the moment, nothing else. He's always so far gone, somewhere else in space. But in this moment he's grounded. He's in reality. He's experiencing this moment and nothing else.
Undertow is their best album I think, although Lateralus and Aenima are both phenomenal too. I was really into them. I listened constantly for a year until I couldn't take it anymore.
Ummm exuse me? I'm a major tool fan and he's actually talking about how like ummm he is super deep and occult and magical and shit
Damn, this is why I keep coming back for more after 20 years of listening to them.
He hates them too dude, re analyze some of the angry shit post undertow
People often forget the word play and double entendre in these songs.
For example:
Holy can be expressed as "Wholly" meaning the entirety of your being which supports
... In this body, this body holding me. Be reminder here that I am not alone in this body...
The thought being that your human body is merely a reminder that you are actually a consciousness residing within a greater body. A universal consciousness within a universal body.
And being that you do not truly belong to this human form, but rather the entirety of existence, anything you suffer here is only as relevant as you believe it to be.
If you choose to see this as a love story, it's merely a consequence of the lovingly manufactured ambiguity the band is so talented at.
Aren't they all love stories ;)
I dont know whats longer, their songs or their album turn over rate
>literally 10 years since last album
In my opinion, there are two types of Tool fans. Undertow/Aenima guys and Lateralus/10000 days guys. The first two albums are so much more raw and angry, while lateralus and 10000 days are much more about the lyrical and mechanical complexity while being much softer. I mean, we all love all of Tool's music, but in my experience you either like the angst better or the complexity better.
Don't forget your pen user
Untrue, unless I'm a one off. Started with Ænima, moved to Undertow, then 10,000 Days with a sparse every once in a while listen to Lateralus. It never grabbed my attention as much. 10,000 days probably has the tied most listened to hours with Ænima after Undertow.
their music is supposed to be listened to in albums, not short bursts. you should listen to Lateralus if any, but there's an edit of it called the Holy Gift. It changes the order, and uses some bullshit reasoning on why. Regardless it sounds way better.
It's like 1 hour 16 minutes long, it's worth listening to while you do something else for that amount of time.
rofl all these retards analyzing tool songs like they're some kind of fucking mana from the heavens, just shut the fuck up. we all know maynard is a baked retard who's usually to high on acid to even know what he's singing.
This is why I love Aenima, kind of a hump between it all, where its agro and subtle.
Try listening to A Perfect Circle first. Kinda similar but their songs are more "accessible" I find.
it has to do with squaring the circle or some shit, look it up it's fucking crazy.
kek
Lateralus is a masterpiece, I only like Undertow from high school nostalgia. I still like 10,000 Days but my issue is I feel like there aren't any non-long tracks. Not that this is an issue, but I feel like there shouldn't be an aim to make the whole album songs like Reflection. Long, drawn out, and leading into another song.
no this man is an idiot, do not listen to them a perfect circlejerk is garbage
>replies with saying he doesn't care
>he obviously cares since he replied
maybe you should leave this site.
forever.
please.
I love every song by tool. Opiate to whatever comes next(hopefully)
I think you could say that those groups are more vocal
>I feel like there aren't any non-long tracks.
>Lipan Conjuring
>Lost Keys
okay, well actual songs i assume?
This man is a genius, listen to him carefully.
Hit up opiate if you want shorter songs
Well he continuously uses "we" and is talking about someone literally holding him, in a beautiful moment. Someone is there reminding him he's not alone. This "holy experience" he's experiencing, it's so powerful that it makes the pain of the real world completely null. There's only one feeling like that my man, and it's love. Imagine Maynard in bed with a girl and read the lyrics as his internal monologue. But that's just my own interpretation of what Maynards intent was.
The beauty of Tool's lyrics is they're open for interpretation. Lyrical ambiguity is one of the most awesome things about Tool. Regardless of what you get out of the lyrics, the song still kicks ass.
This man is a pedophile, that is unrelated
I can't say what I want to, even if I'm not serious.
I can't say what I want to, even if I'm just kiddiiiiingg!
fucking hell just shut the fuck up
this man is a skeleton
This man is right
Get high, put on some decent headphones, display their art work on your TV and sit there and listen. It's dope as fuck.
> Millenial
>Pokemon came out in the 90s.
Dumbass
trips says this man is wrong
I'm a latecomer to Tool, only got into them a couple of months ago. Ænima has more appropriately lengthed songs I think. It's my favourite so far. Though keep in mind about every 2nd or 3rd track there's an intermission you'll probably want to skip. In saying that, stay through the comedy routine at the start of Third Eye. Fucking excellent piece of music follows.
wow dude rude shame on me for trying to add some niceness to such a generally toxic fanbase
i think he was refering to pokemon go fuck yourself?
0/10
Skipping the fucking intermission? How have I never done this?
I always like to listen to the intermission cause it launches you into the rest of the song
Honestly I'm kinda tempted to just take them out altogether. Happy to listen to the Third Eye preamble though, it builds the pacing. But the crying baby, electrical currents and phone conversation backed by piano got old after the first few listens
Ignore this tasteless piece of shit man, this has been the only enlightening thread I've read here.
Why do you want to get into tool to begin with?
Hip hop and Country songs are about love. Love and hate as a duality signify you are an infant (read: black and white are all I see...)
Are you a young man? If you think holding a woman in your arms is truly significant, you're likely
Agreed for Third Eye, not so much for the others. They feel too out of place for me. I did listen to them the first few times.
Not even intermission?
Well it's not exactly musical either. The comedy section, that is.
Well maynard does seem to word literally all of his songs so ambiguously as to encourage multiple definitions... kinda bugs me sometimes... it could do with a little accuracy lol. But personally I think the gist of your guyses argument is, hes either saying...
choosing to be here in....this body (meaning two people)
choosing two be here in this body (singular self introspection)
personally i always thought it was the latter, but im sure it was supposed to be mutli faceted by design.
This is low quality B8
and you are the problem with Tools fanbase I'm not gonna argue with you. As I said, the lyrics are open to interpretation. And it's not just about holding someone in your arms, its about a moment he's sharing with someone. Writing about love isn't infantile at all. Was Shakespeare an infant? I could name more examples but like I said, I'm not gonna argue. This is why Maynard hates his fans. You get what you get from it. Just drop it and enjoy the music.
Stinkfist
Lateralus
Right in two
Prison sex
Parabola
The grudge
Ticks & leeches
The patient
Aenema

Jambi
The pot
Eulogy
Schism
Hooker with a penis
Star with those and afterwards you may be able to start growing.
Yeah, a lot of his songs are like that, where they could mean something smaller or something in a bigger picture. Like you could see schism as a song about a close bond being broken between two people or the general tendency of people to create divisions amongst themselves. Either way, its not wrong, its just how you choose to see it.
And you're so sure that Shakespeare wrote about love as well?
You're interesting.
Please, tell me more things about this love you find so captivating.
Fuck you dude, he listens to TOOL that means no matter what he is better at existing than you
>this is why peoplw hate us
