Special Sup Forums FAQ: >What's the point of this thread? For learners of Japanese to come and ask questions and shitpost with other learners. Japanese people learning English can come too I guess. >Why is it here? The mods moved us here and won't let us go anywhere else. >Why not use the pre-existing Japanese thread? The cultures are completely different. >Go back to Sup Forums Fuck Sup Forums
what's the difference between germany and austria and checz? my german teacher said these were same country
John Gutierrez
Germany is bad, Hitler and so on, they don't have a sense of humour. Austria is good, beautiful nature, Mozart, Beethoven, clean water, magnificent castles. Checz have good internet.
Luis Clark
Guys what's the point? This guy achieved more than you will ever do, but it changed nothing.
>I say this, as Japanese people scarcely develop meaningful connections with others. They’re busy– always busy– without time to speak with others outside of highly organised and artificial drinking ‘parties’. The only time you can actually meet with someone here is if you happen to be a part of the same club, class or event. And even if you both happen to coincidentally be free one day for lunch, you will have to carefully schedule it days or even a week in advance. Nothing happens naturally, and nothing develops beyond this shallow game of pretend. Everyone is your acquaintance, and nobody is your friend.
>I try so much with the people here, desperate to make living on the other side of the planet even slightly less suffocating, that I have no time or energy to deal with my actual coursework. I just can’t give a damn. I’ve always learnt Japanese through reading books and speaking to Japanese people, and get little to nothing from classes (most of which is wasted by the loud American exchangers who incessantly yell and interrupt the teacher). And hence I’m failing, despite most of the lectures containing content I already learned months or years past. Heck, I don’t even know if these courses will count for credit in my home university to begin with.

The author is Veronin, also known as Komeiji, somewhat famous tripfag from Sup Forums. Well, he was, years ago.
Hunter Phillips
>Depressed beta thinks going to Japan is going to magically cure his problems I bet he thought he was gonna swim in pussy once he arrived.
>tripfag from Sup Forums. Another sign he's a problem child
Angel Sanders
>I bet he thought he was gonna swim in pussy once he arrived.
Undoubtedly. But he also seems to crave some kind of emotional connection. Then again, that might just be a cover for wanting pussy.
Daniel Bennett
maybe he just doesn't have much friends in japan.
Alexander Perry
Guess he's not as fluent as he thinks he is in actual conversation. I mean it took him ~40 minutes to finally express his feelings after being shot down.
Jonathan Rivera
>But he also seems to crave some kind of emotional connection Japan seems like the worst place he could've gone. Even if it's easier to get laid in Japan as a foreigner, women just see you as "a bit of fun on the side". Since you're not Japanese they kinda feel like nobody is gonna know about it and so nobody is gonna shame them for it. But once you start becoming to close they'll start feeling like you're a nuisance and liability and get rid of you. That's probably what happened between him and the girl.
This isn't just japanese women. Even here I find it easier to become sexfriends if you have no friends in common.

A person who applies verbal abnormalities like stuttering into written English is not a different person from the autist that I described.
Luis Butler
Why are you angry so much?
Austin Lewis
Did you pass at least N1?
Jose Roberts
私が絶望を感じる I feel despair
Is this correct grammar? If it is, why is it an exception of [part of body]に[feeling noun/adjective]を感じる
William Thompson
No, I didn't pass JLPT at all.
Mason Foster
Aw fuck I've been slacking off a little lately. But I'll give my best from now on!
I'll read 2h before doing my reps cause I think reading > reps, but I'll still do my reps everyday now.
Just not sure what I do with my mining deck, thinking about learning my mined words the same day I encounter them so I know the context or I just copy the sentence as well?

Ayden Edwards
Passing N1 gives you 15 points towards becoming a HSP.
Jace Evans
Reading Heisig, DoJG and then manga or books. Will that be enough to learn japanese? I don't plan on posting here much just want to get started right.
Jace Phillips
You forgot eating a Japanese.
Brody Diaz
Really? I will try it.
Luis King
What about the other 55 points?
Ethan Stewart
for people struggling with grammar and feel like it's extremely boring and want some variety and some spoonfeeding
i reccomend watching 日本語の森 on Youtube, they cover a lot of grammar from N5 to N1 and teach it in Japanese so you can get your listening comprehension up to scratch too.
it's not for everyone and it's not perfect but it's pretty good.
Julian Edwards
I guess I can get that.

Adjectival Nouns #14: Revision
Adjectival Nouns used as predicates
Hopefully, if you have been following along, you should be able to read these sentences. Don't worry if you can't remember the etymology, as long as the words and meanings have stuck its all good. For best retention results, revisit kanji over a three day period. First day two learn, followed by two revisions. Try not to translate sentences into English, read them in Japanese and understand them in Japanese.
あの辞書は便利だ。でも、それは便利じゃない。
鈴木さんは昨日ちょっと静かだった。
高田さんはいつも元気です。
あの学生はまじめじゃありません。
メアリーさんは綺麗で、親切な人です。
Adjectival Nouns followed by a predicative phrase
That is all for today. Regular lessons will resume tomorrow.
Alexander Nguyen
Check out the 小学館ジュニア文庫 series. I especially liked their detective conan novels.
Then leave this thread forever if you want to make it.
Jacob Murphy
why take the HSP if you're still young?
HSP is only for rich people, and if you're rich you should just get a japanese student visa and just go to school in japan for a few years
not sure i understand, but maybe it's an old people thing.

I can speak Japanese a little. daily conversation, honorific language, a short essay, and so on. I have been in Japan since I was born. I learned English recently.
Eli Roberts
>コーヒーは私のいちばんのすきの飲みもの。 How can I better express this?
Luke Phillips
>"I have been in Jance I was born" >"I can speak Japanse a little" >"a little"
何?
Alexander Allen
Japanese language is very difficult. All of Japanese are always learning in their lives. It doesn't have the end.
Oliver Morris
コーヒーは私の一番好きな飲み物です。
Otherwise it seems like fairly nice basic sentence about coffee.
Luis Myers
Thank you, that looks better! I forget that "like" is an adjective all the time in Japanese.
Aiden Robinson
Use 俺 instead of 私 if you have a Y chromosome Use 一番好きな instead of 一番の好きの because it's just wrong End the sentence with だ or です
Brody Flores
There seems to be a lot of debate on what to call yourself in Japanese, and that sentence is going into a short introduction essay for my teacher, so I'll just use 私 instead. There was no です at the end because I copy pasted and didn't proof-read before I posted here.
Jose Moore
I see. You seem like a good person.
Be careful, the english on Sup Forums is not actual english.

Is that sentence the first mention of コーヒー in your essay?
Angel Mitchell
あげ an inflection of あげる? >さあもう行っておあげ
Parker Thompson
Yeah, why?
Nolan Miller
Personally I always use 朕 because I am descendant of Franz Ferdinand.
Elijah Bell
has to be but sounds like a dialect
Sebastian Martin
Then it could be cool to first introduce it in a sentence like (私は)毎朝コーヒーを飲みます。 and then switch the topic to it with コーヒーは...
Carter Anderson
Thanks for your advice. :) I am still studying and can't speak English sufficiently yet. Therefore I can't understand difficult slang, so it's not a problem. Don't worry, teacher.
Tyler Clark

Ah nice! I'll do that. Thanks for the advice.

I think LINE, twitter and Facebook are popular. It's also lang-8. I don't know the details, tho.
When saying "There is", "There" Is always required.
There is money There is time There is ability
If you remove "There", the meaning changes.
For example
"There is money here"
Cooper Miller
Isn't there is money - お金がある
Daniel Lee
Thank you for teaching me!
Well, can 'He is there' be said as 'There is he.'?
Aiden Morgan
He is there!
There he is!
Don't ask why.
Alexander Hill
>Well, can 'He is there' be said as 'There is he.'?
No. You say "he is there", or "there he is"
"there he is" has emphasis on Subject. "there HE is!"
"he is there" has emphasis on Location. "he is THERE"
"there is he" is not correct english. However, it can become correct english when used as possessive
"there is he"
Samuel Young
isn't that "i have money"? but i guess it can be "there is money" depending on context
Logan Flores
thanks a lot.
There I am. There you are. There is my country. 'there' is interesting.
Austin Young
>anki and tk drone >forget how to read 50% of katakana What was that really good website to learn kana again? (not Kanateacher)
Levi Collins
There is my bag.
There I am.
There are I and my bag.. ?
Jeremiah Mitchell
There is my bag. Correct There I am. Grammar is correct, meaning is strange. -> I am there. My bag and I are there.
In English it is polite to always refer to the object/person first, then yourself.
Mary and I went shopping. John, Jim and I packed for the trip. My bag, John, my pet rat, the girl stalking me, two marbles and I wanted to go out to the nightclub.
Gavin Mitchell

Does anyone know why this picture won't show up? I just started mining and it's a massive headache just making these cards. Is it slow for everyone?
Angel Smith
How do I have one deck at 1 new card a day and another at 20 cards a day? Whenever I change the settings of one deck, the other changes as well.
>どんな人とでもうまくやっていける人は得です。 >That advantageous to be able to get well along with anybody.
Is my translation correct? Im having trouble at understanding what the いける means here (as well as whole うまくやっていける), Im thinking at the potential form of 行く in the sense "going well along" but Im not sure at all.
Adam Morris
Did I miss the registration dates for the jlpt? If I didnt when can you actually register because im not having any luck on the site
Isaac Bailey

Jack Phillips
Registration dates are in july too?

Can anyone tell me why rikaisama just highlights the kanji but gives no definition?
Noah Sanders
"People who are able to get along well with anyone are at an advantage" would be a better translation, in my opinion
