Our destroyers/corvettes are old AF and we barely use them, but at least we still have 3 subs.

We need more ships definitely. They're building 8 of these Type 26 frigates which will partially replace other ships, as well as the two new aircraft carriers. Currently still building the remaining Astute-class submarines, 7 in total.

I think it's pointless to compare with the past. A single modern destroyer holds more fire power than an entire WW2 fleet.

The UK are probably in a better position now, especially when the carriers are up and running properly, compared to what they were in just before the Falklands. Just look at the refuelling plan for the Vulcan bombers.

Actually we are, for a strictly pacifist nation with no enemies and no need for power projection we do alright, the navy does have the capabilities to build most of it's newer ships and we mantain mirror fleets in the Atlantic and Pacific.

Computing power, power generation, sensors and crew habitation are all causing warship tonnage growth. USN is notorious for having fucking dogshit habitation because they're non-sexy like radars or VLS tubes.

It really isn't. Moral is key to any force as equipment can only be as good as the one who uses it. If you've got stressed, tired crew they'll be performing far worse than a crew who have a good standard of accommodation.
