When I went to Delhi on a business trip three years ago for a week, what I observed was arguably some of the dumbest fucking beings in existence, lacking all basic common and logical sense.
These are the people that not only shit in the street, but shit in their water supplies causing massive outbreaks of diseases. They bathe and drink water from the same river they dump their dead bodies in.
I had to stick to pre-packaged meals I brought and bottled water I brought with me. There was no fucking way I was going to risk any diseases.
At least in Shanghai I had no problems with eating at the restaurants and food stalls, and drinking their bottled water.

Also i think the similar abortion problem was also the cause of this imbalance, but that was due to the one child policy not prestige, so if if a girl was born, the family knew that there wasn't going to be a source of income for them in future as daughters were given away.
