I like it.
Sounds really good. Better than I expected.
ids preddy gud :DD
something about the mixing is a bit overwhelming and not in a good way
but other than that, it's better than expected. I'm loving the sort of upbeat approach to their hazy sound
Good, but holy shit is it brickwalled to all fuck. I can hear clipping everywhere.
The Oasis effect at work...
Are you fucking serious?
really excited for the new album
What? There's definitely too much a modern "mix" job done on this track. Listen to something off of Souvlaki and then this and it's night and day. This is very heavily compressed.
HYYYYYPE
I agree totally. It feels a lot more maximal than Souvlaki/Pygmalion, and it put me off a little bit at first, but I think this kind of driving upbeat sound is a good direction for them.
it's on youtube though?
kys plebs
it's shoegaze it's supposed to sound disorted and lo-fi and be mastered as loud as possible
great track
im excited now bois
thank you
How do you not expect clipping from this genre though? The db mix on this song sounds fine. You are right about the compression, however.
for real though it feels weird being excited for the comeback of a band that disbanded before you were born, like I'm hopping some trend that I wasn't alive to appreciate
>tfw born too late to see slowdive in the early 90s
that pitchfork doc on souvlaki made me really wish I was in a different time and place
thx
and isn't it a radio rip
>How do you not expect clipping from this genre though? The db mix on this song sounds fine. You are right about the compression, however.
Are you serious? Listen to Loveless, Souvlaki, Nowhere, etc. No clipping or overcompression/brickwalling to be found.
Shoegaze is supposed to clip though. It's meant to be distorted. Even Loveless clips. Prove me wrong. I guarantee you it does.
I've watched the Pitchfork doc three times now, it's just perfect. Love the visuals and all of the clips they use. I really wish I could have seen them in one of those grimey venues in the '90s, but they seem great live now too so I hope I get to see them this year.
i cant stop listening
>listens to shoegaze
>critiques production
>fucking pleb
Its amazing
SO GOOD
shut up faggot
there's nothing wrong with brickwalling limiting or compression or clipping/distortion in the mastering process.
Nah desu it sounds overly clippy
I think its probably just a low quality audio file, slowdive have autistically mixed albums, i dont see them deviating from that now
fuck off shit
it sounds great, go display your autism somewhere else
I'm mildly concerned for the album since the mix on this is ridiculously narrow, but I'm hoping that's just an oversight on their part in the single release
This shit sounds too good to suffer from bad mixing
See:
stupid faggot
I literally just bought the song off their bandcamp to see the waveform. Honestly, it's pretty disappointing to see that they mastered it like this...
I put the 1993 CD version of "When the Sun Hits" underneath for comparison.
lyrics?
good joke
gross
I'd still "hug" Rachel
What's the problem with this exactly?
no seriously. can anyone make out what they're saying?
fuck off already idiotic faggot
nobody gives a fuck you autistic shit
it sounds fine
Can you just go back to r/music/ with your audiophile nonsense?
mastering is piss poor but holy fuck this track is gorgeous.
...
stupid retard it's great
I'm serious. Anyone have the lyrics?
heavy compression usually swallows a lot of the details in the mix. there's a lot less variation in volume, so the subtle differences in volume that make most mixes sound lively tend to go to shit and (in my experience, idk if this has any scientific reason) layers that are lower in the mix get suffocated by the louder layers.
for a prime example, listen to the unmastered version of kanye's mbdtf (inb4 b8) next to the commercial release (one of the worst mastering jobs in recent history) - you'll notice a lot of intricacies that were basically drowned out in the final product.
this mastering is garbage
>tfw need to sleep but can't stop listening to the new Slowdive track
music for this feel?
Hello, Scythey
you autistic fucks need to get out
noone cares
you clearly care enough to respond this many times
This is great
dubs gets lyrics
>beautiful music but all these autist pieces of shit care about is the mastering
fucking faggots i swear
ty
c'mon, i'm loving this track, i'm just disappointed with the production choices
Eh, it's okay.
I just hope they don't pull a Pixies with their comeback album
woah there is a little bit of clipping on this B)
check 'em and give me the lyrics
name ONE good comeback album
Well?
it's just a few autistic redditors
"mastering" is just a meme. there's no difference in sound quality no matter how "compressed" the waveform is. music is music.
>dean blunt
your life is a meme

aren't you forgetting My Father Will Guide Me up a Rope to the Sky?

waaah the loudness wars ruined music
unironically mbv
>"mastering" is just a meme.

>"mastering" is just a meme.
>autist is still triggered about that
"mastering" IS a meme
She Found Now is the best shoegaze track since 1991 fight ME
There's nothing wrong with the way the song sounds.
looks fine. In fact the bottom one doesn't look "full" enough to be shoegaze.
which one are you?

i have no idea what this list is
I'm excited for the new album.
>"mastering" is just a meme.
you said you bought it off Bandcamp
well, which one are you?
It's 2017. Tracks are supposed to be loud and compressed. It's just the way things are. Why would you want it to sound like the 1980s or some shit??
Im not even the guy going on about it originally
I love the song, im just rightly pointing out that the mix is a bit off
Youre on Sup Forums how can you possibly expect me to NOT be autistic
...
where were you when you finally realized "mastering" is just a meme?
maybe like 3rd best desu
For a genre firmly rooted in the late 80s and early 90s, yes, you would think it would sound more like it.
>Tracks are supposed to be loud and compressed. It's just the way things are.
Mbv you fag
Oh shit, lol, I'm Ryan Kent. I forgot that I had a bandcamp account for a second. I don't use it that often.
hes gonna stalk u now :)
>mastering is just a meme
>In fact the bottom one doesn't look "full" enough to be shoegaze
Nigga I don't think you understand how waveforms work. They're supposed to look like waves, not big rectangles. A more rectangle looking waveform doesn't make the sound "fuller" or more shoegaze are you retarded?
thank you, my son
t.autist
>someone else copy-pasted my reply in /shugazi/ to the slowdive thread
idk how to feel right now
someone just post the waveforms to loveless and get this shitty debate over with
why can't you handle someone else's opinion
