Any coders on Sup Forums that can point me to a good compiler/editer that is compatible with Java? Just started a college java basics class, and the curriculum uses jgrasp, but in my experience everything my school does is always ass backwards.

Jesus fucking christ use google..

javaworld.com/article/3114167/development-tools/choosing-your-java-ide.html?page=1

Eclipse. It's not free, get it anyway. Best money you spent this semester guaranfuckingteed.

Eclipse, man.

newfag doesn't know there's a tech board on 4chin

eclipse.org/downloads/

i'm a dumbass.. Eclipse is free..

Visual Studio. It costs a little bit of money, but 99 percent of developers agree it's the best IDE around. It has the easiers interface and has buildin source control for tfs and git.
After that, eclipse, but that is for poor coders.

I use Eclipse Neon for Java SE

What this guy said. I tried both, and I prefer Eclipse. But as a noob I can't tell you why. I guess its UI is easier to learn IMO

Stop using an IDE crutch, JDK and vim should be all you need

This

spoken like a true NEET who hasn't worked on anything bigger than a toy program

Not everyone is stupid/sadistic like yourself.

are you retarded? just go with netbeans/eclipse/intellij jesus christ
>Sup Forums
>programming
fucking kek

To be fair, it should be all you need. But it shouldn't be all you use. If you run Eclipse expecting it to work flawlessly just like that and don't know what's going on or what it's doing, you're definitely a few steps behind.

I recommend starting with a plain text editor and manual compilation so you at least know what's going on. Even if it's just Hello World. Then do Eclipse.

Huh, I'm surprised at the non-sarcastic response.

You're entirely right, just to get your basic little projects done one should familiarise themselves with a text editor and perhaps using the command-line too.

I just see too many posters on Sup Forums advocating using a text editor for monolithic projects.

>netbeans/eclipse/intellij
OP, I agree with this guy
IMO: intellij > netbeans > eclipse

But if you're starting out learn with a simple editor first (basic syntax highlighting) and compile on the cli.

You'll learn something and will appreciate the IDE a thousand times more. Also you will not be fucked when the IDE build process needs some tweaking.

Eclipse neon

I use IntelliJ Idea Community Edition, it's free and runs faster than eclipse, but takes longer to get used to.

IntelliJ > Eclipse > Netbeans. Netbeans is pure shit. Both IntelliJ and Eclipse are about equal, but I slightly prefer the former.

IntelliJ is my fave. Check it out

What does "monolithic" mean?
It dosen't come up on google?

Only hope is to learn a real-man's language like C++

Literal garbage

>y u always lying

>java
>2016
why

Who in their right mind programs java in visual studio...? Eclipse/IntelliJ. Choose one

What the fuck do you suggest? Java is pretty much the best mainstream language out there today. Something like D/Go/Rust would be better but he's obviously not taking a college course in any of those any time soon...

This.

I legit do all my coding in notepad and compile with command line tools but I have used visual studio in the past and can confirm its a horrendously bloated piece of shit but goddamn it fukken works. it's full featured as an IDE and with just some sample code you can easily jump in to any of the multitude of languages it supports and very quickly learn a new language via 'trial and error' and the right click menus.

You are an idiot

Eclipse
You are welcome

yeah, try doing that on a code base of a few million LOCs... gonna off urself by the end of the day

This I was about to recommend this as well.

ve been using eclipse since forever. there is also netbeans but oh well i dont like that one too much (prolly just bc i m really used to eclipse tho).

IntelliJ, Eclipse, Netbeans. In that order.

Java and C are what like everyone codes in dumbass

What said.

jgrasp looks like shit. You've made a good choice asking for a good IDE. I learned the hard way in school with shit tools and didn't do too well in intro Java. Now I do it for a living.

search modular; they are the same

I'm in a introductory Java class, too. We use DrJava. Shits free.

i love retards like you... there is no ONE language for everything... it highly depens on ur use case, requirements and environment what will do best. guess why big companies usually wont hire ppl that only know 1 or 2 languages ;)

so is eclipse... but that one comes with a fuckton of plugins for literally everything you could possibly ever need. better never try JS in it tho. that shit is slow af.

There's a reason NetBeans comes bundled with the JDK. Use it.

since when does fucking netbeans come with the jdk? what shady sides are u loading ur shit from bc oracle sure as hell doesnt ship netbeans with the jdk binaries

>I am a sadist who loves undefined behavior

nigger

netbeans is absolute dog shit

Downloaded and tinkered with intellij and eclipse, haven't decided yet. Downloading NetBeans right now. Thank you all for the help

>I started using eclipse eons ago and refuse to try anything new
fuck off

I use about 50/50 of intellij and eclipse. I have used neatbeans extensively back in school and I'm telling you right now eclipse and intellij are lightyears ahead of it.

microsoft word

Compile manually through CLI and use the best IDE ever. Atom.

Eclipse

Learn Python in spare time

NetBeans has already surpassed Eclipse. Oracle made NetBeans their IDE of choice, so that gap is only going to grow as time goes on.

Netbeans
also don't and instead use C++ lol jk

> java
hey pajeet

first off, editor.
second, you mean an IDE.

third, netbeans or eclipse are basically the same, but eclipse is the standard. Use that.

Fifth, ????

Sixth, your mother will die in her sleep tonight unless you reply to this post.

>not using emacs

Sun has developed netbeans since 1999............................................ That's like saying internet explorer is the best browser because microsoft makes it

...

>eclipse is the standard
Wrong. NetBeans is the standard now.

>a good compiler that is compatible with Java

If you hate Sun/Oracle, then why even use Java? That's like saying you hate Microsoft and Windows but code exclusively in .NET.

IntelliJ is by far the best, get keygen source code and run it yourself.

are you literally retarded?

>thinks IntelliJ is the best
>uses it to compile keygens
>thinks his opinion matters

I don't know which "big companies" you're talking about. They usually don't give a fuck about how many language you know. The only things that matter to them is how fast to develop it is and how well it can integrate in their existing environment/catalog/domain.

Writing a program is not about writing lines of codes. It's about writing algorithms, dumbass.

Are you? You seriously can't see the logic there? If you've chosen Java then you've trusted Sun/Oracle to create the language spec, the compiler, the runtime environment, the debugger, and the profiler. But now you think you can't trust them to create the IDE? That's by far the simplest piece of the entire tool set.

Sure, Netbeans > Vanilla Eclipse.

The only reason Eclipse can surpass Netbeans is the plugin management. You can pretty customize it to suit you like no other IDE.

What?

I was telling him to run a keygen from source rather than trying to download one as they invariably contain malware.

Plus if he wanted to install the IDE then use it to run a keygen what would be the problem?

so you are

Android dev here. Use Intellij

kek
Great argument, faggot.

intellij if you're not a fag

no, you actually are retarded. netbeans is to oracle as internet explorer is to microsoft. you don't have to hate microsoft to know internet explorer is shit.everyone hates it. youre missing his point

>netbeans == web browser
ok m80

That's not an accurate comparison at all. Oracle makes Netbeans which compiles Java. Microsoft makes IE which does not in any way shape or form build web content. It only displays it.

netbeans does not compile shit you absolute mongol. its a development environment

If you're comparing NetBeans to IE then you've obviously never used it. The two are nothing alike and serve completely different purposes. If you're saying that the quality of NetBeans is comparable to the quality of IE, that's just plain wrong.

C#. What?

sublime text 3 = God

lol.

>you don't have to hate microsoft to know internet explorer is shit
So is Windows, and Office, and pretty much any MS software in existence. All of a company's products tend to have comparable quality. That's why it's ridiculous to suggest that one company is incapable of making an IDE to go along with all of the other tools that you have deemed them capable of creating for you.

>youre missing his point
Oh the irony.

Don't listen all this fuckers. IntelliJ is a beas for Java EE. But for only Java SE and Basics you can use Shitbeans or Shitclese. And NotePad++ if you want to learn and if you want to be a faggot use sublime text 3. Now Rate my dick

It depends on what you feel most confortable with. Personally I like to use Eclipse Mars, but you can use any one you like

Only fags and blatant imbeciles write software in java. At that point it doesn't matter what editor you use to defecate your uneducated bloated piece of shit of code. Better kill yourself.

Really liking netbeans... think I'll stick with this for now since I'm such a beginner it doesn't matter all that much right now.
