in germany you call it a gater. that's english enough.
well than here is some more usefull info for you:
-highpass everything above around 30 khz with an eq to get rid of that headroom stealing subsonic info
- put a compressor on the track with your ratio around 3:1 at a threshold where your sample hits it and goes beyond it like about 8 to 10 db. Attack around 3 ms, release around 150ms
-put a brief reverb on it with only 7-9% wetness and a small room to get some pleasing stereo info

also cut out some of that 300-550 Hz area to get rid of the mud. effect chain sould be Gater->EQ->Compressor->Reverb
