youtube.com/watch?v=ducG55pfCMQ

Carla Azar playing the drummer is so good.

Amadeus

I really dig Almost Famous and Inside Llewyn Davis

If you wanna experience an album in movie form

i was jk about frank, its not even about the music its a lame dark comedy

The Devil and Daniel Johnston and Amadeus are the two best ones

You're Gonna Miss Me
Dig!
Supersonic
Such Hawks Such Hounds
Live From Tokyo
People Who Do Noise

beautiful and underrated

Obvious ones are Dont Look Back, Gimme Shelter and Woodstock

I Am Trying To Break Your Heart

A lot of "music" movies are less about music than they are about art in general. Whiplash is another great example. Frank is as close to a strictly-music movie as one of these can get, and so I give it my personal seal of approval.

Also, if you are indeed the same poster, then what was the actual "joke"?

the one about the national

The Rush doc

Breadcrumb trail

All the Pitchfork Classics are actually fantastic.

The Souvlaki pitchfork classic is bretty gud.

Seconding Love & Mercy, Brian Wilson is such an important figure in pop music that it'd be remiss not to watch this film.

Even ignoring the music angle it's one of the Coen's best films, and of course Oscar's performances are great.

This might get some flack, but I honestly think that rendition eclipses Van Ronk's.

all 11 hours of The Beatles Anthology

I'm not even being ironic.

Seconding this one, great movie

Velvet Goldmine
I'm Not There

>no mentions of High Fidelity

what the fuck

youtube.com/watch?v=pc3TYIIpOZM

watch cbgb
not the greatest movie but still fun

24 hour party people gives a good chunk of the manchester scene with some comedic wit in the 70s-80s

That's going to save me hours actually

eternal sunshine of the spotless mind and lost in translation.

Until the Light Takes Us

One of my favorite movies ever

This is quite amazing in every respect love this film

Interstella 5555. It has anime and daft punk.

Dig!

Beware of Mr. Baker is pretty good.

vals im bashir.

it's not exactly a music movie, but it's got some beautiful sequences that I think would resonate with musicians.

How has no one said Saturday Night Fever yet?

Purple Rain.

Mistaken for Strangers

its all gone pete tong

i love nashville

best soap on air

Fuck am I the only person on Earth that fucking hated this movie? All the characters were super fucking unlikeable, it wasn't well written, and the music in the movie(what the film is all about) is impossible to listen to as well. This movie is utter garbage.

Are you even trying Sup Forums?

Dig!
Standing In The Shadows Of Motown
Fela Kuti: Music Is The Weapon
The Art Of Organized Noize

Pic related
On topic though, I really liked Control even though for some reason a lot of people didn't.

The answer to this is always "no"

Have you heard of La La Land, OP?

Just watched whiplash and thought it was great

Saturday Night Fever
Grease
Grease 2

Everything about being in a band, history and nature of rock (till the 80's), touring, management, fame and having your gf in your band.

this happens in every movie thread - for some reason Sup Forums doesn't get Sup Forums-the-(fucking)-movie
by no means a great movie, but if you can't get into the bands music you're a massive pleb. it's literally just krauty jams with moogs. have you ever gone outside of the Sup Forumsessentials chart user? be honest.

Fish story

Until The Light Takes Us

>inb4 la la land
although it was fine, it gives up being a musical half way through the movie. its not bad but i dont like how they call it a musical

classic choice

Inside Llewyn Davis

adventureland is post-grad angst garbage

Except it was actually bad. Emma and Goose can't sing outside an octave, the second act drags on for way too long, and the songs are all bland and forgettable.
The only impressive thing about the entire flick is that goose played all the piano parts himself, and the only reason it's getting praised and getting awards is cause "muh old hollywood" ass kissing.

does slc punk count as music movie?

That movie fucking blows

I love SLC Punk because it's one of the most honest depictions of punk I've ever seen.

The whole message is you can't be an edgelord your entire fucking life and you eventually have to grow up and stop being a faggot.

Searching for Sugar Man
Buena Vista Social Club
Mistaken for Strangers
I am trying to break your heart
Supersonic
Shut up and play the hits, though not really sure if that's considered a documentary
