take an appropriate amount of units and stop dicking off doing stuff that wouldn't be objectively moving your ball forward
John Harris
That's reasonable. You mean day to day? Or just things in general?
Kayden Robinson
all the time spent doing thing that aren't work or getting you toward a greater intended goal will do nothing to get you to that goal. except sleep. but be prepared to give that up sometimes.
unless you're studying bullshit, than good luck paying it off
Jaxson Torres
I'm studying to become a radiologist with an emphasis on diagnostic medical sonography lol. Not BS in the slightest.
Isaiah Ortiz
18 y/o first year of uni and ausfag. Set up a study schedule. As gay as it sounds it really fucking works. Also find different mediums to revise with. Study better not longer
Matthew Perry
Slow and steady wins the race. Time management, do a little bit of studying every day
Jason Bennett
So study schedule you mean like dedicated hours for study?
Jordan Edwards
That makes me feel better. I always feel like I have to do a lot all the time. But pacing seems the way to go
Jackson Clark
Make sure to reserve time for destressing to prevent burnout. I personally mediate.
Daniel Sanchez
Don't bother studying when you're overly tired. Get plenty of sleep and don't do things that will make you overly tired.
Asher Ward
For sure. That's kinda what I'm struggling with now. Like I always feel pressured to keep working and such. I find it hard to sit down and relax when I know I could be doing more.
James Hill
Small bites will finish the meal. Don't procrastinate, just work on hw in small chunks.
Mason Long
Tips to stay alive.
>do all of your homework >attend all of your classes and lectures >start and finish assignments as fast as you can (you are not free unless there is virtually nothing left to do for school) >Learn as if you have to teach the topic to others >teach the topic to others so you can be confident and so you can remember everything
Follow this shit like the bible OP.
Josiah Morris
Take 20 mins either before bed or in the morning to forgo all technology and be at peace. If u want help with meditations let me know.
Carson Martinez
>be me >procrastinate tons >solid B student, occasional A >see this thread >laugh at people taking shit too seriously
Aaron Wilson
That's kind what I've been doing. I mean if I can knock out something in one sitting I will. But I'm actively learning to pace myself, as hard as it is at first
Tyler Cruz
Thanks man, I appreciate that. So far I've been doing the majority of those. I'll have to apply the others now!
Jaxon Sullivan
Sweet! I'd totally like to learn some. Anything to help relax and keep my center.
Joseph Phillips
It depends what university you go to and the teaching styles.
I went to an extremely difficult uni for a year and flunked out.
Am in different school now and its coasting by like cake with the same amount of effort
Jose Jenkins
Thing is, I don't want to just get good grades. Like I wanna apply it to my life and go the extra mile as well.
Oliver Young
>advice on how to stay on top of everything without burning out or cramming.
You have a snapchat? I'll add u. I wrote a paper on techniques for meditation and self reflection. Just gotta find it.
Christian Reyes
Lol thanks, had nostalgia hard core with that.
Aiden Scott
Current Ph.D. student. When the professor recommends reading the textbook chapter before class, do it.
Almost no one did this, and then they spent the entire lecture frantically taking notes (or having the entire lecture go right over their head). Either way, you miss a lot doing that.
Read the chapter before hand, even if you do not understand 100% of it, and your lecture is spent having a bunch of "yep, I get this" or "OOOOOH, NOW I GET IT" moments.
One warning. If you do this (IE be a good student) you'll be the go to guy during group homework sessions, and you'll want to strangle everyone else for blowing off the lecture and then eating a giant dick when it comes to problem sets. Seriously, don't be that asshole. >=\
John Cook
Great tip! I always try and be one step ahead of the game. I'll implement this for sure. What's your Ph.D?
i've read that mangaka usually work at their desks for hours on end. i read the blog of one and he wrote that if you tell yourself "Ah, it's no big deal," it really will make you think whatever you're doing is no big deal. hope this makes sense
Hudson Turner
Interesting. I suppose it really is psychological when you break it down. That is one thing I fight with, is the urge to just get up and do something else.
Luis Peterson
Solid advice itt. To avoid burnout just remember to take breaks to have fun and dont stress about making straight A's its more important that you finish than to get a high gpa
Anthony Allen
Recent graduate here. Classes during your first year are likely going to be bullshit prerequisites that require a lot of busy work and rote memorization. Luckily I have a great memory, so it wasn't too bad. Just be sure you focus and prioritize your time. Something that seems counter intuitive but really helped me with prioritization was to get involved with campus organizations and get a part time job. It forced me to prioritize, really. I ended up studying history which is incredibly reading/writing intensive..didn't have what would be called a "test" for the last 3 years of my degree. As it turned out, getting so heavily involved in orgs and a job wasn't such a great idea when I had literal hours of work to complete every night. So, I would just smoke pot all the time to slog through my heavy ass reading loads and then spend the night before papers were due snorting adderall and smoking until it was finished. Many sleepless nights were had, but the lowest grade I ever received on a paper was a B. Graduated from the honors program with a 3.93. Luckily, I was and am passionate about history, so I suggest that you find something about which you genuinely care and enjoy learning, else your long nights studying/typing away will be even less rewarding.
TLDR: >over program yourself >bong hits in the morning, afternoon, evening to deal with stress wrought by over programming >embrace circumstantially necessitated procrastination >succeed
