Why do so few horror films make use of imagery to build their atmosphere?

Why do so few horror films make use of imagery to build their atmosphere?

Give me some good examples Sup Forums

Prometheus

that pic and your comment just reminded me of how we'll never get a In the Mountains of Madness moive

Mothman prophecy.

Mothman Prophecy is 10/10. Pleb opinions can get out.

To OP I think it's because horrors always have like $10 budgets and they just don't have the money left over to play digital artists. They get some make-up artistry girls to work for free creaeting blood and stuff, get some free sets in basements and warehouses, use terrible actors who never get paid, and the director is always writing/directing and working for free.

It's just not likely they can afford it.

Believe it or not, sets are expensive, CGI is expensive and artists that actually CREATE this shit are expensive too.

Horror movies are a niche genre with no money in it, so no studio will ever give you 200 millions to do some Hieronymus Bosch horror flick. Get it?

So whats left? Either filming in the woods or in a house. Tada, eevry fuckign horror flick of the last 20 years does that, because eevrything else is too expensive.

GOAT atmospheric horror

Because when they do it, like The Witch, and Babadook, your average "horror fan" just hates it anyway. So why bother? Just copypaste monster movies because that's all retards want despite them claiming they want something else.

Meanwhile the credible sources will still appreciate Witch and Babadook so it doesn't matter. But you're the reason studios don't try with horror anymore.

uh retard horror isnt exactly a wide audience genre

>why wont my children and over 60 audience come and see Hostel? I am so confused
>you
>this retarded
>forcing me to educate you

>the babadook
>horror
Pick one.

Just watched the Babadook trailer and it looked like exactly like your described average horror movie with a caring mother protecting her child from some haunting existence.

What's so special about it?

>the babadook
>imagery
>good

erm, no

HELLRAISER IS THE ONLY HORROR EVER MADE

>The Babadook
>The Witch
>The same two "good" horror movies that people who don't actually like horror movies point to whenever talking about "good" horror movies
Why does this happen the same way every time?

I bet you liked It Follows and The Conjuring too

>psycological suspense, not horror
>in your face cuz you're stupid imagery
>jump scares for everyone
>scariest part of movie is the child's book prop
I'm a triggered, fedora autist because of this movie.

>pic related

and also The Shining you derps

Me third from the left with the yo-yo.

Why did you have to remind me?
