hey you guys know theory too, right?

youtube.com/watch?v=XXQY2dS1Srk

explain to me what inverting the motifs means in this case

best gould for me are his recordings of bachs keyboard concertos.

for goldberg var. however i choose weissenberg.

We've been over this

his schubert is terribly slow.

Which "Schubert" is terribly slow.

i wanna eat goulds ass

d.960 for one. with richter it almost comes to a standstill at times. it's not for me!

he obviously took after Yudina in that sonata

His D. 960 is the greatest performance of all time

no, that's Sofronitsky

Richter would agree

gimme kempff.

How do I train myself to be able to identify the them in the Goldberg Variations?

if you can't whistle along, you're fucked.

...

well shit
isn't there a video or a text I can read that helps?

how can you possibly not identify the main theme in the aria da capo?

youtube.com/watch?v=KbM_UQ4LquY

meant for

>Glenn Gould Is The Hottest Pianist
Is this a joke about the fact that he always felt cold and would perform with the heat on and wear jackets during summer?

Isn't the bassline I should pay attention to?

Uh... yeah. THat's definitely a thing I knew about him when I made the thread. It's a clever joke.

with bach, pay attention to everything.

Wait for the sick bassdrop.
Also

Do you remember them? Do you always know what comes next when you're listening to them?

If you can't even clearly remember them there is no point in trying to analyze them and find patterns, unless you have a very good foundation on music theory and ear training.
Listen to them, memorize them and then come back.

>tfw i just discovered La Demoiselle élue
Lads it's magical. Might just br Debussy's best.

Why does Rameau sounds so good on piano?

is that his entire discography? why don't you post different stuff

...

FUCK
OFF
We've already told you to give hum the theme on vocaroo, or at least give more informations about it. You're indications are fucking meaningless, ffs

You said that. But what I said is literally eveyrthing I remember about it. I was pretty specific about the content of the youtube video at least.

yes

Hi /classical/, does any of you recognize this solo piano piece? I just heard it in the 1980 documentary Poto and Cabengo.

also those violins are just placeholders

Does anyone know where i could find an original Rossini's The Storm piece? All the ones on youtube sound too hyperactive and lack the power of the original one. I don't remember where I first heard it, I might be wrong, but this sounds a little too fast.

Here, listen to some Black Sabbath.
You've been keeping up the facade of superiority long enough, you can indulge, I grant it unto you: youtube.com/watch?v=V8l7ErLb-qM

Damn, at least post a good band

>facade
sorry to break it to you but we legit love classical.

Sabbath are shit

Is metal the classical music of the 20th/21th century?

Basically. Technical death metal is the closest thing to classical that exists today.

wrong.

True. I actually meant to say intelligent dance music.

what about modern classical?

Metal was invented by a classical composer in 1912.

He coined dissonant chugging, technical polyrhythms and syncopations

youtube.com/watch?v=BiH3vA7q0jo

Metal didn't get to close this level of complexity until late 90s, and even then didn't really make it. Stravinsky also utilizes dynamics and timbres much more effectively than any metal band ever has.

If you hear this piece in concert, its louder than any metal band. Pretty impressive considering there's no amplification.

>Technical death metal is the closest thing to classical that exists today.
*Contemporary classical

Death metal tends to use one scale (harmonic minor or some other minor scale) and never really gets complex when it comes to polyphony. Death metal is a using a tiny portion of 19th century classical techniques, and drenching them in distortion to try to sound "heavy".

I thought they stopped making that.

Is flamenco guitar /classical/?

No, only Ghibli

kill yourself

t. metalfag

Art music always exists alongside popular music. Plebs just dont know about it.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_in_classical_music

>implying i enjoy that horseshit

Apparently the main genres of music are country, classical, heavy metal, hip-hop, opera, and Latin. Good to know.

I wonder if anyone listened to all of the things listed there.

Thats not even all of them. I know a few new pieces and albums that aren't listed there

i did

>/classical/ missed the get again
i miss the rachget days

You can add them.

Then what are your thoughts on Ghyll by Mark David Boden?

no one?

/classical/ is serious business now

If you can't identify it then you're probably tone deaf.

You don't even remember the tune? Then why would you care?

Most Classical these days is done in a Minimalist style.

I recall enjoying it.

I thought it was all microtonal spectralist serialism.

This isn't Sup Forums.

did you do that on purpose?

Download link for this?

I'm sure there's a plugin/app that lets you just download it from youtube.

Nice get

This channel was associated with Cicada 3301 at some point.

This is the most recent piece they posted: youtube.com/watch?v=Ah87d7fR5NU

Rate it.

Sounds like a video game soundtrack.

Post your shitty tracks here.

i thought it was a myth

What are your musical anxieties, /classical/?

hearing an equal tempered major third over a justly intonated major third...why do we still mix pianos and string orchestras for the love of FIFTEEN WHOLE CENTS...ughhh

That hard work and pure dedication won't be enough.

What's your goal?

To become a truly great composer.

youtube.com/watch?v=p12ILpVZ_HY
I really like this one, it's very interesting how he detaches the eighths and connects the fourths when it would be more intuitive to do the opposite and follow the trend in most of Bach's pieces.

Yeah, I'd probably come up with a plan B.

his wtk is god tier imo.

Glenn Gould's Bach interpretations are technically good, but he doesn't play the repeats, therefore they're worthless.
What a waste.

no.

Thanks for clearing that up. I wasn't too sure on the matter.

just skip around the recordings yourself

where do i start with pierre boulez's pieces?

He never stop at the repeats, so you can't even cut it yourself.

>he doesn't play the repeats, therefore they're worthless
why? repeats in some pieces can be seen as optional, but why does that make his interpretations worthless regardless?

because of user's aspergers

Sir Neville Mariner or Raymond Leppard for Brandenburg Concertos? Or maybe another option?

Anthony Halstead

How accurate is this list?

rateyourmusic.com/list/alimal/a-guide-to-mahler

It's from RYM so it's bad.

Repons

there's no terrible performances on that list but i don't see any particularly great ones either

honestly it doesn't matter that much though, since it seems like the kind of list you use to get into a composer, and you don't need to get autistic about interpretations at that stage

They're all amazing performances imo
