Ask a Portuleaf anything
Are you hairy?
Pretty hairy, yes. Couldn't grow a proper beard until I was in my early 20s, though.
Are you the guy of the 23andme?
I've bought a kit but I'm not sure I'm the guy you're referring to.
What's a portuleaf
Portuguese diaspora Canadian.
Ew
do you live east of quebec
No, Ontario.
>he doesn't live in portugal cove
Nope, but I know the Portuguese were sniffing around the Atlantic coast. Is that why it's called Portugal Cove?
We alledgedly discovered Newfoundland and Lavrador.
We never really colonised it, but we did have some fishing settlements that carried on up until the XX's century.
We had a »»White«« Fleet to fish bacalhau.
Corte-Real, right? Isn't there some speculation that he got to these parts before Columbus?
There's a fair amount of speculation that we charted a lot of Brazil (coming back from India) and Canada before Columbus, yes.
Which is why we knew to push the Tordesilhas line further west so we knew we'd get some land in America (the guy that did it was even the general in this battle, Pacheco Pereira, top bloke).
Australia too, but that is supported by flimsier evidence (a drawing of a kangaroo predating Cook).
Thing is, we lost almost all our secret documents in the 1755 earthquake, tsunami and fire when the Torre do Tombo went down.
WE WUZ and shit.
Do you go around being obnoxious about yuh heritage, or do you keep your mouth shut about it? Because a lot of diasporafags learn from their parents about all the impressive feats of their people but never grow up under the context of being shut up and modest about it, which gives us a bad image overall.
A true Portuguese is stoic and only lets go under influence, so getting all thuggish is not endorsed by the motherland.
Azoreans are the ones who are infamous for being obnoxious like that (I like Azoreans but this is one of their character flaws, IMO). You'll find no flags on my car during world cup (I don't even like soccer, I'm a lacrosse guy) or tattoos on my arm of the Portuguese crest. I don't really talk about my ancestry usually unless I'm asked about it.
>Which is why we knew to push the Tordesilhas line further west so we knew we'd get some land in America
I had heard about this but I thought it was only a theory. It'd make sense though.
The Tordesilhas thing is almost definitely because we knew of Brazil by (at the very least) seeing seagulls on our trip back from the last pre-India runs (before 1498).
You have to take a very large detour from the coast of Africa to make use of the southern Atlantic vortex and have a faster trip back up, and we had charted most of the Atlantic currents by then.
When Pedro Álvares Cabral was coming back from the second or third India run (1500) we sent a messenger ship to the cape of Africa for him to adjust his voyage further west to mark the (allegedly already) found land, so that the Spaniards wouldn't get it.
Canada's knowledge proof is flimsier, but we do know that Terra Nova and Labrador were the names given by the Portuguese.
We had a bad habit of not documenting shit, either. This battle and others are gathered from third party observers' documents and not our own. Even our only medal of honour recipient in WWI had to be reported by his Scottish friend because he thought he had done nothing special.
Which is why it annoys me everytime our French diaspora fags go full flag waving and basically being niggers. Canada also has a bit of that, but much much less. Other countries don't, it seems.
Yeah, I've heard about how Avecs are perceived by the Portuguese. Evidently they have internalised the French position on the Church because they lack Catholic humility and modesty. That's the only thing that might be unique about the diaspora here: we're still devoutly Catholic. I'm sad to hear that the youth in Portugal (my own cousins, even) are not.
why are there so many Barbosas in leafland?
I don't know why most chose Canada in particular. The majority of Portuguese here are from the Azores so I'm sure the comparatively short distance between the islands and Canada has something to do with it. If you look at the Wikipedia article on Portuguese-Canadians it claims that most Portuguese were political refugees but I'm sure that's not true for two reasons: how devoutly Catholic our Portuguese immigrants are and our tendency towards social and fiscal conservatism, neither of which would be traits of socialists fleeing the Estado Novo.
are you enjoying the niagara reigon
I'm north of Toronto, but it's pretty there. Only been a couple of times.
>neither of which would be traits of socialists fleeing the Estado Novo.
Most people from the time were.
They were likely fleeing the draft, not the economic policies.
Also, I think they chose Canada because a lot of them were fishers, and knew how to fish/find fishing jobs near Canada, so it probably went by having local contacts or something.
The fishing jobs would have made sense if they settled in the Maritimes/Newfoundland but they settled mostly in Toronto, which is a business and finance-oriented city. The Portuguese here basically dominate the construction trade.
What you said about the draft, though, makes good sense to me. My family were some of the first of the Portuguese to come here but they did so for different reasons because they had British citizenship. We're not really representative of the average Portuguese immigrant.
>The Portuguese here basically dominate the construction trade.
Yeah, that's pretty much what happens everywhere. We're good builders and can make do with missing tools by half-assing a way of getting things working. We're scrappy that way.
New emigrant generations are usually engineers and programmers, which are just the higher education versions of that.
Portuguese rarely crave jobs in finance or management or anything like that, but do have a lot of good engineers and workers in places that require solving problems. We're hands-on people by nature.
A FOLHA
>UM FILHO DA PUTA DE UM ÁCER
The Portuguese equivalent would be the Portuguese Oak Leaf, since we don't have that many maples.
Quercus lusitanica
Kek, "quer-cus".

Are you Portuguese, or Canadian?
Pick a team.
Are you white ?
Is your mother a fucking wore than only wanted to fuck brown cock and betray her race?
Are your maternal grandparents proud of her?
Is your father a dumb unqualified shitskin?
Are you proud than no one in Portugal have any respect for emigrants and everyone despises you?
>The Portuguese here basically dominate the construction trade.
Sounds kinda like france
Or switzerland
Or luxembourg
Or angola
Or basically everywhere we go en masse
Fuck off retard.
Now, this is a truly autistic post.

How's that 2 digit IQ working out for ya?
Your opinion of Shawn Mendes as the ultimate Portuleaf hunk?

t. emigra burro de merda crescido no bairro social de Zurique onde passou a juventude a chupar pirocas africanas e muçulmanas.
Mata-te cuco de merda
That's exactly the pathetic excuse for a joke a two-digit IQ primitive ape such as yourself can be expected to make.
Porquê que estas a falar comigo em inglês, burro de merda?
É para pareceres inteligente.
Volta para a Suiça com os barraqueiros dos teus pais, seu monte de esterco
t. Primitive dumb ape that makes up most of the portuguese populace which is objectively inferior to every other in Western Europe by a long margin.
How does it feel knowing emigrants are living better lives than they ever could by staying here, and knowing that I, and thousands upon thousands more such as myself shall soon join their ranks?
So everyone can see what a dumb monkey you are and the next time they see Poortugal in a lower-tier of prosperity in one of those meme charts they know it's exactly thanks to people like you.
You abhor individual success and believe I have an actual obligation to you by your right of birth. You're scum.
A tua mãe prostituiu-se na Suiça para te sustentar.

Mata-te emigra burro de merda
It's ironic that once I move abroad your children will have a higher chance of needing to resort to prostituting themselves for loose change than mine ever will.
Do try to cope with that in a manner that doesn't cause such an intense butt flustering you simian mong, it's bad for your heart.
>This is the sum of all intellectual contributions by emigrant-hating buffoons to this thread

My turn. How about "poortuguese that never had the courage to leave are actually poorer than emigrants!"?
Oh wait, that's not actually a joke..
You both belong in a zoo tbqh
Fala-me em Português emigra de merda, não estas lá nos bairros sociais de Inglaterra a chupar a piroca aos teus namorados pakistaneses
The only reason you hate emigrants is because you believe they have any obligation to the abstract concept of the "nation", which is nothing more than a group of individuals profiteering from the idiocy of people such as yourself, but also because you honestly believe they actually owe you anything, to illiterate scum such as yourself.
And you resent the fact that even the less educated first generation of emigrants is living better lives than you are, and the fact that the younger generations are comprised of highly educated individuals who will succeed abroad because they won't be hindered by poortugal, which has almost like an inverse Midas touch; everything you touch turns to shit.
