A long time ago I did some work on Duolingo, and it all feels very irregular.
Something as simple as saying "he eats/they eat/she is eating" all seems remarkably different from usual language structure, or maybe it's just me.

Getting the basics, sure. Becoming competent, probably not.

There's a torrent online with a bunch of reading materials, and see if you can pick up a child's school book for learning Irish (it might seem embarrassing but it's probably the most efficient way).
