Any tips on making uplifters sound better and tighter with actual drop?
Thomas Nelson
Thanks for the Feedback! It is much appreciated. Your track sounds ace man! Really clear and loud! I just use pitch rises and or reverse drum samples for rises. With pingpong/reverb continuing after the drop in a higher frequency.
But...I'm a complete novice. I'm probably missing some tricks.
Dominic Miller
anyone got any tips for making mark fell sort of stuff?
>clyp.it/vi4z1bt0 Those background pads are really shitty sounding. Its just one chord and thats it
Kayden Jones
Are these good?

Can software channel strips compete with hardware?
Lincoln Ramirez
Manly makes overpriced, overblown bullshit. Universal Audio's software is phenomenal and there are practically zero differences between their software emulations and the real things.
James Gutierrez
Why even make hardware units anymore then?
Mason Cox
Cause its better to have a shining piece of hardware thatn only some shitty emulator.
Just like porn
Ian Sullivan
if we're talking Audio Acustica, yes
Ryan Reyes
Production needs its own forum.
Reaper.

Somebody enlighten me please. Is there some kind of thing youre able to do with some DAW that you cant do with any other?
Henry Flores

fl studio as a sequencer and usually whatever i can find
Juan Hill
Of course some have features that others don't
Jack Evans
I like the beat and the vocals. The string sound is also very nice. I have to agree with the pads, I don't think they sound REALLY shitty but I think they could definitely sound better.
Luis Powell
well yes, wahts also important is how fast you can do certain things. Like getting a sample in time with the beat is both possible in fl studio and ableton, but youre probably faster in ableton at any time because it handles audio better.
Chase Murphy
Sup Forums has been listed under "Creative" for a long time.
John Barnes
Song about a period of time in the history of Texas that I made over the summer. Bass is way too loud and overpowers the mix, but it is what it is.
I use Logic because I spent years using GarageBand when I was younger and just got too used to the format to switch over to anything else.
Charles Sullivan
What's the best daw for guitar?
Caleb Collins
Because of course there is a difference, and no they cannot compete. if you really think that they can compete then either you have bad ears, or just havent ever used any.
Tyler Nguyen
Can you give some solid evidence which backs up your "opinion" rather than just saying someone has bad ears if they can't hear the difference?
I would appreciate any kind of feedback, I wanted to make it longer but I just can't find a proper transition to a 2nd verse so I just keep building it up
PD: Feel free to critique the pic if you want, I'm drawing it as a PV for this song
Angel Russell
Most people can't hear the difference between mp3 and uncompressed files
Its not "opinion" - its simply my opinion, there are no sly implication.
But we are discussing a subjective topic in the first place, so the whole idea is just redundant anyways.
No, I don't have any evidence, if you dont believe me then well fool on you - if you really think there is no difference then well... there isnt a lot of difference and i guess you can continue to be in the dark.
Have you ever heard the difference of putting a song through an analogue desk and making it hot and then compared it to just being mixed digitally; with or without it being hot
the vid you linked has a guy talking over it, hosted on youtube...
If listening through some adams or genelecs, even on my yamaha's - i can tell the difference between flac and mp3. i can also hear the difference between analogue clipping and digital clipping - and its likely so could you if you were properly given the opportunity.
and they can certainly hear the difference in post processing. if you are mastering a track - an untrained ear will undoubtedly be able to tell the difference between analogue mastering processes and digital processes.
the idea of using circuitry has specific implications dependant upon the materials, the build, the tempreture - i mean; if you really dont think theres a difference i dont even know what to say.
>get new headphones so I can finally put bass in my tracks without it sounding muddy >the biggest thing I notice when using them is all of the static in professional songs
Evan Flores
this is NOT the soundcloud thread
Blake Evans
>P.S What DAW do you use? Why? Would you like to change to another? Why? Use Cakewalk SONAR Pro. Wouldn't want to change, been using SONAR for a decade now.
I mostly record live instruments btw.
Adrian Garcia
>all of the static in professional songs what genre are you referring to? are you sure you're not just hearing static from your computer/soundcard?
Adrian Jones
Where my renoise bois?
Dylan Turner
its called a low pass you fucking aurtist, no one says high cut
Daniel Murphy
lol whew lad, you need to re evaluate some things
Eli Hill
I would if I had time to produce music. Fucking perfect for jungle and breakbeats. Instead I spend all my free time shit posting here.
I use FL Studio and Audacity, since it's what I've used since high school.
Aaron Davis
I just listened to some Radiohead. Specifically Morning Bell, when there's just the bass and drums I can hear the background noise pretty clearly
Tyler Morris
You seem to be the only one in existence to ever say this. Are you sure it's not you who are mishearing and/or have shitty equipment?
Mason Ward
I just tested it on another pair of headphones on another computer using a different audio interface. I can still hear it. Turn your volume up
Jacob Gomez
Prove it's there. What frequency does it lie on?
Evan Johnson
Just tested on a third set. Roommate says he can hear it too and it's always been like that. I'm inclined to think you're full of shit or are listening on really low volume. Listen to Exit Music and if you still can't hear anything I don't know what to tell you.
Blake Cruz
>I don't know what to tell you. I literally said tell me what frequency it lies upon. Can't you read?
Also, give me any other verified source anywhere that hears it.
Blake Scott
7kHz, in Morning Bell after "cut the kids in half"
Would anyone on the /prod/ discord be interested in giving me private lessons? I'd pay $50 an hour.
I know ableton and basic theory, and have made covers I like a lot. But when I have a blank canvas, I'm finding it impossible to even find the chord progression for my first track
I like 90s dnb if it matters.
Brandon Torres
kek
Wyatt Mitchell
OP clearly hasn't been here long enough to see /prod/. Also, I'm and I did self-promote anything in this thread?
Samuel Flores
anyone know where i can get FLS 12 full free? I dont torrent, its useless
Lincoln Reyes
The pirate bay, too bad you don't torrent.
Henry Moore
its incredibly slow not sure if P2P is affected by rural areas but im in one
Nicholas Jones
I also like the beat and vocals but the background noises sound very flat. it could be a problem that *everything* else is part of the background, there isnt much modulation in terms of volume over the spectrum. maybe automating some compression/saturation or tremolating the individual elements that make up the background will make some of them come to the foreground and compliment the song more instead of being a backdrop for the vocals.
i think the oboe sounds a bit flat, maybe you could open the chord between a few instruments to accompany to tone of the oboe?
i feel like you should compress the piano a little to reduce the transient slightly but thats just me considering its sorta the lead.
i feel like the transition to when the clap and pizzicato come in its a little flat again, maybe thats because the bass doesnt come in on the note. when the oboe comes in the second time it clutters the mix a little, and then the following plucking sounds are very piercing and they overpower the mix, personally i would turn them down.
nice tune though sounds like im questing
pretty impressive using audacity, but why tho? surely its just making things harder.
nice arrangement and mix, trippy vocals and good levels. maybe the background sounds a bit flat but thats just me. maybe some more movement in background levels, although they are mixed nicely as is so w/e.
sounds like some doped out shit. its hard to comment because i get that your trying to create a drone with the bass, but i think maybe some lfo/envelope modulations in the synth. i also think i can hear the end of your oscillator so maybe increasing your attack/release to stop the clicking, although its hard to say because of the nature of the track. maybe the sound like comes in at 24 is quite abrubt and abrasive to the mix.
rather repetitive but its a good mix with good levels and the problems (imo) lie in the choice of sounds
coursera.org/specializations/music-production Is it worth the time to audit all these courses or to buy them? 40 bucks seems pretty steep to get a useless certificate and feedback on material that i can get buy just uploading stuff to Sup Forums.
Jace Wilson
Do whatever courses you can for free. Certificates are literally worthless, and in my experience taking a few online courses you'll rarely get good feedback for anything you turn in.
Noah White
Are you using the 78-9somethin jungle pack pads?
Jeremiah Cooper
if audit means for free why not if you have the time
Adrian Price
pretty cool, I like the pads a lot
Nathan Hall
Where should I be aiming for a bass guitar when it comes to overall volume? I've been told around -18db directly from input for regular guitar is good. Is it the same for bass?
Do you use samples, synthesize drum sounds, or both?
I know people have already said this but yea, the snare could use some more character in the upper frequencies. You could add a little bit of white noise and/or another snare and filter it to just fill in where you feel it's not thick enough.
The kick needs a little work. I know someone else said it sounded like it went through a high cut, but I hear a very distinct high frequency pop with it. I don't know if you synthesized that or if it's a sample. I think you should cut that pop out by either high cutting it or doing a volume envelope on every trigger. You can fill out the upper frequencies with a different kick or work on synthesizing them...it's a bit more difficult than just adding some white noise but the white noise can help.
I use a copy of Ableton Lite from my friend. I don't use any additional plugins. Someone help me build a library of some essentials.
Ian Gonzalez
Hi guys,
I'm working on some breakcore, again, in Ableton Live instead of Renoise... again. I think it's going great, much better than my last project like this, I love chopz.
I USE ABLETON LIVE BECAUSE I STARTED USING IT AFTER HEARING THAT A LOT OF MY FAVORITE PRODUCERS USE IT
IT'S ALSO NICE THAT I JUST NEED ONE PROGRAM TO MAKE MUSIC AND PLAY LIVE, EASIEST INTERFACE TOO FROM THE ONES I'VE TRIED
I WOULD MAYBE TRY AND LEARN PRO TOOLS FOR MORE INDUSTRY/PROFESSIONAL AUDIO CLIENT WORK-TYPE STUFF
Oliver Edwards
HEY IDIOTS NO SOUNDCLOUD
Joseph Gomez
Hi user I'm , thanks so much for the feedback, I will try to follow what you said (some things I did not understand due to my ignorance about the subject :/).
Unfortunately I'm so shitty at making music that I'm afraid I'm not the best at giving advice but fwiw I like your wip mostly the first half it seems you have a nice tension going on said part, the second half isn't bad but after 1:55 it starts to feel a bit monotonous like the song could be a bit shorter and with more substance.
I hope that helps even if it just a bit
Aiden Foster
Hopefully someone will beat this op to making a /prod/ thread with a proper OP
Levi Thompson
>tfw only want to create abrasive experimental electronic stuff a la Pan Records >end up with either smooth deep house or ambient every single time
Is anyone else physically incapable of creating what they want to create? What I end up with doesn't even sound bad, but it's like I default to making something like deep house or ambient because it's the funnest to create, even though that's not what I want to create. Should I even keep fighting it?
Kevin Cook
When your drum sequence be all, like,
Tyler Murphy
yea i dont have much fun making what i initially set out to make either
when you say "use audacity" what do you use it for?
Logan Cruz
Anybody using Protools? I'm new to production and learning it rn
Luis Taylor
i feel like you know how to mix shit really well and from a technical standpoint youre talented, but damn that shit was wack. howd you get the staccato yells on the first track on newgrounds though?
