I do these same exact things. Had to remove a song 4 times and re listen to it on my media player so the tags matched.
Only thing I don't do is the car one because I only have like the same 6 cds I play through and it isn't what I actually choose to listen to.

I lost most of my library (what is left is fragmented, every album has songs missing, etc.) so I decided to start fresh and ditch iTunes (I have an iPhone with 5000+ songs on it) for MusicBee and FLACs (mostly).
With it I created a new Last.FM account, only been scrobbling for a few days as I continue to download and add stuff to my new library.
