what up rex
i was about to watch 2001 for the first time tonight, but i changed my mind and watched MEEK'S CUTOFF instead
it was good
>the presence of evolution_rex
Seems like an interesting movie, plus it has Paul Dano and Will Patton. Are you still planning on watching 2001?
at some point, but not tonight
Hope you enjoy it when you find the time nonetheless user.
so what's the point of these threads, every thread people just post the same profiles with the same movies. Sort of a circle jerk thing? Look how cultured I am?
Well for some it is, but I come here to gain followers/the slight chance to have a discussion.
>Look how cultured I am?
no. I bet you use the word "pretentious" against people who dont like marvel movies.
I get some good flick suggestions occasionally, I'm far from "cultured" if by that you mean someone who watches super heady, old and/or foreign cinema exclusively and judges those who don't
I'd like to get into Mann, where should I start? I've seen some clips of Heat and after reading about it to be honest I'm not feeling it right now. Obviously I'll get to it some day, but something like Miami Vice currently piques my interest much more. Would you say that's an ok place to start?
MIAMI VICE is not a good starting point for Mann. honestly his work isn't all that difficult to get into - he's my favorite director, but almost everything he's made covers the same general themes of isolation, duality, etc, just expressed in different ways. i'd say watch in mostly chronological order starting with THIEF, but skip THE KEEP, THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS, ALI, and COLLATERAL, then come back to them.
Anymore Yojimbo/Fistful of Dollars style "playing both sides against each other" movies? Already seen Last Man Standing.
Yea Miami Vice is a pretty good place to start, although any of them could work. If you're most interested in later, digital Mann, MV is the best place to start though.
>/lbg/ trying to fool an innocent person into liking shit films unironically
>fool
no
>unironically
yes
Thanks, I often agree that chronological is the way to go, but there are some directors that I really feel the need to skip around in watching for some reason. Especially Lynch; Inland Empire interests me more than any of his others, but I'm always overwhelmingly told not to start there.
Ok. I may start with Thief, but I'll got to MV next as it is later Mann that I'm interested in
if you do go ahead and jump to MIAMI VICE, you should plan on revisiting it. it's not one that many people appreciate on first viewing.
I've seen Miami Vice 4 times, and in each I felt that something special is there. It's not even a masterpiece, but it's an immensely sexy, unique piece- a strong favorite, no doubt. One of the most iconic films of the past decade.
Will do the 5th soon.
i just made a letterboxd, when do u guys use the like feature 4+ stars? only on 5 stars?
up to you man
i don't use it at all, personally
Like is a certain quality that can't be objectively measured or quite expressed with words unlike technical ability for me.
I can like 0.5 film and 3 star film
Like: I really enjoyed this movie
High rating: this film deserves to be noted for its technical or artistic merit
I.e.: a flick that everyone universally likes but is a bit mediocre is _______
Before I fall asleep I was hinting at Clueless
When I like it.

i love that one too
also, all the stuff in the club or just every shot in the whole damn thing
It is a good film when it manages to make that horrible Jay-Z Linkin Park song memorable and good
yea
mann is always kinda like that tho. he has the weirdest taste in music
>his favorite Lynch isn't LOST HIGHWAY
I don't like any Lynch outside his Twin Peaks work
why's that?
