>Perhaps Hollywood’s funk is even worse than a sequel slump. In 2016, the film industry is on pace to sell the fewest U.S. tickets per person of any year since perhaps before the 1920s and the fewest total tickets in two decades. This is an extrapolation based on previous years’ sales progressions, and a strong summer or fall could boost the final figures. But this year might even weaker than it looks. The sixth and seventh highest-grossing films of 2016—Star Wars Ep. VII and The Revenant—were actually released in 2015. Box office analysts are grim. “Hollywood is in a creative funk,” Jeff Bock, an analyst, told The Hollywood Reporter. >In this environment, where Americans buy only four movie tickets a year, it’s more expensive to create an audience for a film. theatlantic.com/business/archive/2016/06/hollywood-has-a-huge-millennial-problem/486209/
Maybe if they lifted off the no singles police they would actually sell more tickets

Poor marketing. They need to pay marketers to generate street hype and promote products like Star Wars, Avengers, and Justice League. It's simply a matter of consumer awareness.
Jaxon Kelly
You can't blame all of life's problems on somalis, user.
Charles Davis
Probably due to terrible trailers. 90% of trailers I see actually make me hate the film, and it's only when I see it later on HBO or Netflix that I think it's not that bad and I wouldn't have minded seeing it in theaters.
Basically fire the advertisers, they're awful.
Elijah Sanders
Stop trying to sell merch and instead make a good fucking movie.

They need to make theaters more comfy and lower prices.

Theaters aren't in control of movie prices just the food.
Jack Russell
Because people either go watch the big blockbusters out of habit (which some are tired of) or go watch a few movies during the Oscar season so that they know what everyone's talking about. People aren't simply interested by movies anymore, they don't make that much captivating stuff and most genuinely interesting and enjoyable entertainment is now on TV.
Nicholas Hernandez
They're out of touch, yes, but everyone has a great screen and access to anything they want. 3D was an attempt to get people to think the theater experience was necessary with Avatar, but the movie was crap and 3D was not embrassed. Anymore, people wait for VOD or Redbox rather than paying inflated prices to watch something they could watch at home a few months later. Pirating isn't even a factor here, Americans are becoming more isolated and shooters don't help.
Jayden Carter
same problem as the music industry. home streaming makes all of this shit obselete

It's practically inevitable. I think Force Awakens proved that cinemas are still a draw, but they're slowly fading away as more people are satisfied with home media via streaming. No need for fucking $50+ million budgets anymore.
PLEASE let this be a reality. We need for real creativity and risk taking to come back to movie making. Enough of this no talent pussy shit where the audience decides how and what gets made... like they know a fucking thing.

This. I could, if I wanted, download every single movie that came out in a year and watch them all for free. There's nothing stopping me. Yet I can't be assed to do it. I pirate maybe 2 or 3 movies in a year, that's all I give enough of a shit to do.
Andrew Perez
Every Angelina Jolie movie since Girl, Interrupted

Trailers are the first major impression people get of a film. If it's not on-point they probably won't bother with it. 9/10 trailers I watch turn me off the movie entirely.
Benjamin Scott
Theaters cost too much for a shitty experience. Hire some bouncers to keep the places quiet during the movies and watch ticket sales go up.
Also, stop remaking movies and churning out endless sequels and ready-made franchises.
Oh, and enough with the anti-white, anti-male shit. I'm not paying to get insulted unless it's funny.
The price won't stay at this, but I think if this streaming device catches on, it would replace DVD players. Getting friends together at a house would be a lot more palatable than going to the theaters.
Zachary Cox
Hollywood is waiting on James Cameron to hurry up and bring about AnimeKino. They ran through his Avatar clones already.

>it would replace DVD players it's already replacing them. This is how video game clients like Steam came about in the early 00s in the face of piracy. With the costly middleman out of the way, it's more appealing for studios to now try to sell their films and shows to streaming devices as more and more people cut cable and go to the theaters less frequently.

Avatar sold 3D quite well. Its everyone since thinking a cheap post-production blurry shitty mess can have the same effect that killed 3D, again.

there is literally too much diversity in the United States right now. That's why.
If you make a movie with a white couple married or single nobody watches it. If you make a movie with a black couple--it's basically straight to DVD. Make a movie with an interracial couple then it's whitewashing/blackwashing... agenda driven jew fueled etc etc hogwash. Nobody wants to watch horror films anymore Action films are shittier than ever. There are no great personalities in Hollywood anymore. I guess you have a few like Vin Diesel and whatnot but no one is great. ACTUAL good films never make it to theatres. >Bone Tomahawk >A Most Violent Year. 2 of the best films last year barely have a theatrical run.
Hollywood is just continuously fucking up. They need to start putting out some indie films in theatres and not the same recycled bullshit

1. Movies are too expensive. I paid $20.50 to see X-Men Apocalypse. I image $3 of that was for those stupid 3D glasses.
2. People use their phones to take pics, check instagram/facebook, text, etc during the movie. They don't even lower the screen brightness or try to hide it.
3. Millennial twats talk during the movie.
4. Take chances with movies. Would films like Fargo or Pulp Fiction get a major release nowadays?
Anthony Bell
The last two weeks have seen the release of absolutely abysmal films and that will continue into next week too. Hopefully something decent will come out soon.

Jeremiah Gray
Yeah, and drop the penis inspection. It's embarrassing.

That's the direction things are going. Why do you think Netflix got into producing their own content? They knew that eventually the movie and TV giants would get off their asses and start their own streaming platforms, and the content they used to get from those networks and studios would dry up pretty fast when that happened. Trying to stay one step ahead of the curve and fill out their media portfolio so they can offer a huge selection of titles that will literally never expire or be taken off of the site due to losing a license.
Carson Cox

Movie tickets are too fucking expensive for how shitty most movies are these days, so of course they aren't selling tickets.
Lucas Edwards
>Lowest tickets per person since the 1920s
>Population in 1920: 106,021,537 >Population in 2010: 308,745,538 Presuming it's roughly at parity, only a little lower. They're still selling nearly 3x as many tickets. Ticket prices are comparatively higher. Foreign markets have since not only opened up, but prospered. Home media releases have been introduce.
Sure, counteracting that is that there are more movies needed to sell to get to that total number and they're more expensive to make. Advertising budgets and so on. But studios aren't exactly going bankrupt. Even Sony who literally cannot make a hot movie aren't in trouble of closing.
When actors are getting paid $50 million, when 20 years ago the notion of being paid $20 million was so absurd and laughable it was openly mocked, and when studios are willing to pay that amount of money. When studio heads are some of the wealthiest people in America. When the most respected people on the planet are people who play make believe as a profession solely because they're apart of the products this industry produces. You can't really argue that this industry is anything other than lucrative.
Literally fuck off, Jews. Stop crying persecution for once is you fucking lives. How can you have so much and still act like you're being hard done by because piracy or whatever lame scapegoat you're blaming this week. Your intellectual output has been going down for decades and is at an all time low. Maybe improve your standards before complaining that people lost faith in your products.
Colton Sanchez
The only flick I've watched this year was the Tarantino movie.
Nothing else looked worth watching....
Ryan Green
1. Ticket prices have gone up steadily, wages haven't budged. We literally cant afford to watch a movie every other Friday like we used to 10 years ago.
2. ALL big budget blockbusters in the past 8 years have been reboots, sequels, prequels or adaptions. At some point we lose interest
3. Hollywood's economic model is archaic and unsustainable. We now live in a world with Netflix/Hulu/Youtube, Snapchat, twitter, hell even reddit and Sup Forums. 180 minutes is worth A LOT more to consumers than it used to be. Honestly, would you rather take out 4 hours of your night and $15 to be mildly entertained or shitpost on Sup Forums instead where u get even more entertainment, get to participate, and dont pay a single cent. Audiences today REFUSE to spend both their money AND their time on the gamble that a movie is good, when time has shown they usually arent.
Hollywood will be a relic of the past, I guarantee they wont survive in their current state another 20 years. How they adapt to today is anyone's guess. I'm gonna guess we'll have Hollywood movies streamed to our computers by 2020.
Luke Bell
HBO already does that. Netflix is heavily investing in its content.
Jordan Baker
Not true. The no singles policy has been quite succesful at revitalizing interest from couples and larger families. Idiots (likely virgins) just think that correlation implies causation. I bet revoking the no singles policy would actually lower cinema attendance, not to mention the cost from the lawsuits after the inevitable shootings.
Tyler Smith

The problem is actually part of this. They upped mandatory diversity a shitload to get blacks to go see shit like Marvel movies. Problem is when blacks go somewhere nobody else wants to.
Anthony Rogers
>Hollywood's economic model is archaic and unsustainable.
This is the big one.
The Jews used to be able to monopolize access to film and music entertainment, but that capability no longer exists due to the internet, and they simply refuse to change, or don't know how to Jew the internet aged audience the way they used to in the past.
Hopefully this means that actors and entertainers will be treated like the gypsy scum they are, once again.
Parker Williams
Does this mean Hollywood's Leftist circlejerking will come to an end at some point in the future?
Jason Powell
Yeah fuck off, Jews. You wish you were as talented and handsome as this guy.

THIS
One of the local AMCs upgraded to recliners and assigned seating. If I can't get tickets to see a movie I want to see there when I can, I don't go. And when I do go, a small soda or bottle of water and a small popcorn is over $10. I also only go to matinees to avoid the stupids and their crying children. No 3d, no IMAX. Lately, more and more, I'm just skipping the theater altogether and waiting for dvd/br release so I can watch @ home.
and THIS
Samuel Butler
No, not outright. In some establishments, it is, but that is usually right after a mass-shooting. And it "policy" doesn't last more than a few weeks. There are no falcon clubs, either.
You're experiencing a dank may-may.
Isaiah Cox
The problem is that people look at rotten tomatoes and meta critic as the kings of movie reviews, and when a movie gets a good review and they go watch it it turns out it sucked, so they tell there friends meanwhile movies that are good get bad reviews and people just don't watch them
Asher Harris
>shit uncomfortable theatres dominate the industry >consessions horrendously overpriced >most movies are artless, thoughtless garbage I wonder why.
Jaxson Jackson
>We need more multucultural, gender/sexual orientation empowering and multiracial movies because white people don't go to cinemas anymore!
Maybe they think in that why according to their movies.
Ethan Hughes
That collection of things you keep just calling trees? The rest of us call them a forest. The point isn't that you personally are unamused by the majority of what is being released and you're being in your opinion "picky" about what you illegally download. It isn't even that you're such a darn nice guy that you exhibit some restraint and only illegally download movies you "really really want to see". It's you and everybody else only downloading a little bit that's turned into such a wide trend that it's starting to make a visible dent in the box office. Try thinking of it the same way you do littering. The subject is how the city is covered in trash and your rebuttal is that you only litter one or two times a year, and that if you really wanted to you could probably do it a lot more.
Evan Roberts
And if they don't have their own, they partner w/ someone else, like Showtime w/ Hulu or Amazon Prime.
Eli Turner
Your overblown metaphor falls apart because littering makes a place uglier while depriving Hollywood of money makes the world more beautiful.
William Bennett
He has a danish pig snout
Anthony Miller
Littering would be a valid analogy if all garbage cans were incredibly uncomfortable, filled with obnoxious scum who ruined the experience, and were horribly overpriced, and throwing away trash was significantly less satisfactory than the trailers advertising it implied
It's a simple fact that abusive business practices encourage black markets, all they have to do is fix their industry and people will start buying more again
Jordan Garcia
Social media plays a big part too in word of mouth. Minutes after a movie is released people take to Facebook/Twitter/Ect. to praise or trash a movie. It's all part of our instant gratification culture.

the internet happened. and i'm not just talking about piracy. basically everyone has roughly the same amount of free time to spend entertaining themselves, but the entertainment options are much more numerous nowadays. did you guys forget that the video game industry makes more than hollywood now?
hollywood hasn't adjusted.
Christian Williams
Clearly it doesn't because it leads to production studios scared to take risks and leads to the shitty capeshit/sequels/all female reboots we find ourselves inundated with today. Except that you can still pay and legally download movies. If your argument is that you'd simply rather just watch movies at home then why won't you pay for the right to do it? It's cheaper to download a movie on vod than it is to go to the theatre.
Ian Lopez
But they're the only people keeping Hollywood alive at this point
Josiah Torres
This is year is fucking shit I was talking with my frimds about how in this time last year we already had Mad max, ex machina and Inside out This is year fucking zootopia is the best movie I've seen
Jack Lewis
If movie theaters weren't so ghetto and crowded (not to mention expensive) I wouldn't pirate, but it's just a more enjoyable experience.
Carson Torres
>If your argument is that you'd simply rather just watch movies at home then why won't you pay for the right to do it?
not that guy, but i do. the problem is distribution and release timing. not all movies are available from every online distributor and new releases aren't available online for up to 3 months after initial release.
if i could just pay the 13$ to watch the new summer blockbuster from home, i would. if a movie comes out i really want to see and someone posts a screener rip on TPB, i'm going to pirate it because i don't have any other option besides physically going to the theater.
Austin Bailey
My home screen is actually better than the theater screen I'm pretty sure.
Literally no advantage to the theater except that its playing the new shit, if you could watch it at home who wouldn't?
