Craig has been a great Bond. Yeah Spectre wasn't spectacular, but he's had a better cataloge of movies than Brosnan or Moore. Casino Royale and Skyfall are two of the best Bond movies of all time. I get that it's time to pass the torch, but I'll be sad to see him go.

Yeah, i think he has one more, but if he doesn't it'll be a shame he will leave on a mixed note.

Still a better final movie than Connery, Moore or Brosnan though

Quantum of Solace is part of Casino Royale, unlike any other Bond. It goes well together.

Wasn't hoping Spectre would, because Skyfall was perfect, except for the few times it went "FULL BOND" with the train, which was still fucking amazing.

Goddamn he's gotten old. I watched Spectre the other day and he looks like shit in that compared to that pic.

>Quantum of Solace is part of Casino Royale

I always forget there was continuity there. I need to go back and re-watch it.

As long as it isn't a woman or a nigger, it will be cool. I like Craig but he never looked like the ideal bond I have in my head. I wanted Ewan McGregor for the part, but not sure he's young enough.

Being bond is rough

Look at Brosnan in goldeneye them him in die another day or Connery in diamond are forever

I think Moore goes without saying

Rough for sure. In addition to all the physical demands of shooting the movies you're also the face to a million fucking brands that had some sort of product placement in each movie.

I want Bale as Bond t b h

>It’s not just the public that has endorsed Daniel Craig as James Bond. Even Craig’s peers have thrown their weight behind the English thespian. Shortly after watching Skyfall, Roger Moore, who had long insisted that Sean Connery was his favorite Bond, admitted to Time that he’d changed his mind and revealed that Daniel Craig now had that honor. Sean Connery has called Craig "fantastic" as Bond, Pierce Brosnan labelled him as "magnificent"," while, after Skyfall, Timothy Dalton declared, "There’s a case to be made that Daniel Craig is the best Bond ever."

Craig was probably the most pure version of the character
>Rough looking dude who was fucked up in so many ways.

The series didn't shy away from saying how fucked up he was.

You know all the previous 007 actors say that (insert current James Bond actor here) is the best there ever was?

Yes, I love him and Dalton. Dark bond is best best bond.

Moore and non-GoldenEye Brosnan are so different from Fleming's vision of the character that it's almost sad to see what they did with it.

Connery and Lazenby were great too but Craig brought that intensity with him and redefined and saved the franchise (along with Martin Campbell) in Casino Royale.

That movie is modern masterpiece.

It's funny, QoS literally begins an hour after Casino Royale.

The guy he shoots at the end of Royale in the trunk of his car in QoS's opening.

He's also the old guy in Spectre I think.

Have they done all of Fleming's books already? I think that for your eyes only is absolutely brilliant and is way better than the movie

Bronsan is literally the best Bond. Fuck all of ya

there's one called 007 in New York and a few more they haven't done yet.

he's fantastic as well, Brosnan Camp > Moore Camp.

at this point, it's just spam

archive.4plebs.org/tv/search/filename/bond girls laughing/

WOO, that shit doesn't even MAKE SENSE, glad to see that gone.

IT'S SO TRUE, THAT CAN'T SAY ANYTHING ELSE. THEY ALWAYS SAY IT. But Moore was always the outlier.

apparently different is bad, even though every bond actor brought something new to the table and changed things up.

Connery made movie Bond.

Lazenby brought some charm and timidness.

Moore brought some more charm and made it more comedic.

Dalton make it darker and more serious.

Brosnan made it over-the-top and larger than life with some 90s campiness.

Craig made it more emotional and brutal.

If Tom Hiddleston is the next bond they'll probably make it more comedic and stylish.

It's interesting because it reflects the time and era, it's almost like a Yardstick of the cinematic world. I mean the blackanized Bond that Moore did compared to the Miami drug crime thriller of Dalton, even the music.

It's not 100% accurate, but Die Another Day wasn't a poor reflection of the music and movies of that time.

Yes I absolutely agree, this is why I'm against having a future Bond movie be a period piece. I love how each movie reflects the time in which it was made.

Skyfall was boring tripe after the initial action scene. I would punch you in the fuckin mouth if I could.

You're the reason tryhard serious bonds keep getting made.

The train was the only interesting part

Every single one of those quotes is british insincerity and media bullshit at its finest

No it wasn't you pleb.

The reason Bond is serious is because Die Another Day shat the bed so fucking hard they had to change the formula up.

Also Austin Powers made the franchise look pretty stupid.

That is so hilariously wrong

Boring. Fucking. Tripe.

>MUH emotions

I don't fuckin pop in a bond film to hear his sob stories.

Well, after Skyfall's critical and financial success it's not changing anytime soon.

You need to learn to expand your attention span as well, you ADD inflicted child.

Was Skyfall even really a sob story? If anything it felt more about how our pasts come back to haunt us/shape us rather than just Bond feeling all sad about his life.

Craig and Brosnon both ended up being roughly the same in the end, as far quality films going.

Both had extremely high peaks, almost untouched as far as Bond goes (Casino Royale, GoldenEye) but failed to really strike success on any other attempts.

none of them have been sob stories, Skyfall was Bond refecting on his past, but it was just as much M's story as well.

Spectre was quite funny.

I guess classic Bond fans consider characterization as "sob stories" because the earlier Bond films had little to no characterization at all aside from GoldenEye and Dalton's 2 films (and maybe OHMSS's ending).

oh piss off, Skyfall was a massive success.

Well I guess as you say compared to past films Casino Royale's main schtick was making Bond vulnerable

He really falls in love with the girl, gets his ass kicked quite a bit and even gets his nuts tapped and in the end gets burned by it because she lies and dies.

Yes but that's how Fleming's Novels were written.

Bond becomes who he is at the end of Casino Royale.

It explains why he's just a womanizer with closed emotions, because of Vesper's betrayal.

I really like that angle, it makes Bond believable.

Royale is the stepping stone to all of his other adventures.

It's one of the reasons why the Bond movies have survived for so long. They always adapt to the times and tastes of every particular era. They steal stuff but not so much that they become Tarantino-esque pastiches or blatant copies of other films. But they certainly always have borrowed from other movies and trends. Sometimes the influences are obvious, sometimes the films stand more on their own.

The Connery movies took cues quite heavily from Hitchcock's famous thrillers. The visual language, the tension, portrayal of violence etc. owed a lot to Hitchock movies.

Roger Moore movies had Star Wars influence (Moonraker), blaxploitation influence (Live and Let Die), martial arts influence (The Man With The Golden Gun) etc.

When Timothy Dalton stepped in (and did 2 only movies) it was obvious that they took cues from other 80's action movies. Dalton's movies were more brutal with their depiction of action and they even did a vigilante style story in Licence to Kill. There was still humor but he was kind of the proto-Craig. Also applies to the way they carved the character, the Fleming influence was significantly more obvious than with Lazenby or Moore (who basically was a court jester by the end of his Bond run).

Goldeneye actually followed the rougher aesthetic of Dalton's era, but Brosnan's portrayal of Bond was more comedic. He wasn't Moore, he wasn't Connery, he was somewhere between. Goldeneye also had the challenge of being the first Bond in the post cold war era. They handled that really well and they tied it into the story thematically.

Rest of the Brosnan movies screamed of bad 90's influences, stupid cyberterrorism shit, hacking. IMO far too much focus on really silly gadgets as well. Die Another Day was a good example of early 00's action movies and all the shitty stylistic choices that were popular at the time. It basically killed the Bond franchise for a while.

I've always preferred the idea that Bond/007 are a class of agent rather than an individual, honestly.

007 is, James Bond is not.

I wish they would use more 00s.

006 in GoldenEye was pretty cool.

Not that everyone is gonna write my rambling shit ass posts, but I'll write this shit anyways because I like all the Bond incarnations.

With Craig Bond the first comparison people always make is Bourne. Which is true. They definitely stole some stuff from those movies. Especially the way the violence was handled and how everything was more low-key. I wouldn't say realistic, but the action had smaller stakes. Gone was the era of really outlandish, silly gadgets and humor set pieces. There was a physicality to the Bond character that we had not seen before. I think one of the reasons Craig is already retiring is that he did basically all his stunts himself and it took a huge toll on his body. He had surgeries after most of the movies he did.

Also for the first time, finally in the franchise's history they really took more inspiration from the Ian Fleming books. Before that, they lifted titles, quotes, general plot ideas and some tidbits. But the character of Bond itself, they really didn't never dig deep into how Fleming portrayed him in the books and what made him into the character we all know.

For the first time in the franchise's history the writers and directors actually turned their interest in what was going inside Bond's head and what his emotions were. CR shows the beginning, what informed him, what made him. QoS starts immediately after. I'm gonna use the dirty word here, in a way it's a deconstruction of a Bond film. It is a Bond film strapped to its bare bones. There is no joy or humor in it because it's just Bond going on a rampage after the events of Casino Royale.

The widely more liked Skyfall follows in the footsteps, Mendes manages to kind of deconstruct and construct Bond at the same time, if you catch my meaning. We get new original information about his internal life, he feels like a human being, but there is also that sense of mythic quality to him in the film.

In the context of the movies (not the books), all of the different era's of Bond being the same person makes very little sense. You've got a young James Bond in the 60's, then you've got an Origin story set in the 2010's, and everything in between. Not to mention the vastly different personalities they all have.
James Bond being an assumed identity in the movies makes most sense. The books are a different story.

I really loved how in Skyfall the ending doesn't take place in the Villain's lair or place where the Villian has taken over but instead takes place in Bond's "lair".

It's a really interesting twist.

>In the context of the movies (not the books), all of the different era's of Bond being the same person makes very little sense.

Yes they do, it's called the actors are getting old and we need new ones.

There is no need for some in-universe explanation for why they look different, they just do, no one is awake at night wondering why three different Bonds are getting married, avenging the death of their wife and then placing flowers on her grave.

No one sane anyway.

Glad to see some interesting discussion here, it's so rare.

I need to make a wish.

I disagree, i think his movies barring Casino Royale have been big let downs.

He has acting talent but he truly lacks charisma in a lot of ways. Quantum, Skyfall and Spectre were also incredibly boring bleak movies with very little charm other than their ensemble supporting cast who clearly make the films better than what they are by basic design.

This soft reboot of Bond has been nothing short of a grey flat toneless dinosaur of a last century concept that is just well over due for being forgotten and left to the history of cinema.

James Bond movies need to go already.

Yeah, it's weird to see actual discussion among waves and waves of shitposting.

you guys already know the next bond is going to be black

its not even a question any more

and if its not the next one, it'll be the one after. and once black people get bond, there'll have to be a muslim one.

it's inevitable.

>HEY GUISE BLACK JAMES BOND HEY BLACK JAMES BOND LOOK AT ME BE AN ATTENTION WHORE BLACK JAMES BOND LOL JAMAL BOND X BLACK JAMES BOND DID I MENTION BLACK JAMES BOND IDRIS ELBA IDRIS ELBA REPLY TO THIS POST OR YOUR MOTHER WILL DIE LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL I'M AMY PASCAL AND I'M A FUCKING RETARD BLACK JAMES BOND BLACKED JAMES BLACKED

we get it.

I just can't take Craig seriously as Bond. He's just so not what I imagine him to be like. All I see when I look at Craig's face is some sort of simian proto-slav whose only ties with the franchise at all should be a throwaway, nameless henchmen that gets killed off somewhere near the end of a movie.

>craig
>bond

I remember hearing something about Idris Elba being the next Bond, which would be fine I guess.
I'm not really a big Bond fan, but I think he's a damn fine actor that would bring a lot of good to the role

Alec was god tier. They tried replicating him with Da Silva as another "fallen Bond", but he can't beat the Sean Bean charm.

>Skyfall meme

When will it end.

Don't you realize Skyfall is the reason Spectre was sub-par, and the Craig Bond era is ending? It was pure shit.

what's the best 'old' bond film? Pre Brosnan and Dalton at least

From Russia With Love

his acting skills have nothing to do with it. its his skin color. the only reason he would ever be considered for the role

Connery: You Only Live Twice
Moore: For Your Eyes Only

Yeah, i edited the two together into one long ass epic, since 1, continuity, and 2, I didn't really like QoS on its own. Works better that way.

>Jamal Bond

This

They really need to get Ben Miller in there.
Not Scottish tho, but still. In every way, he'd be perfect to follow Craig.

I beg to differ. If youre going to put $ and effort into making, or even seeing, one big expensive bloated fairly corny action movie spectacle, I like that being bond. They make a bond flick, I go see it, enjoy it for what it is, I check "action movie" off my list, and don't feel a need to see another mobie of that nature for another 2-3 years.

>James Abu-Bakr Bond al-shaharazad Muhammad

Exactly. And in an age before prequels, reboots and franchises, people were happy with this casual approach. In my mind, each Bond is contained in his own universe - Connery in Thunderball is the same Bond as Connery in Dr No for example. But I never give it any more thought than that.

Casino royale was Craig's best one. QoS and skyfall are shit.

Casino Royale
>grounded, more gritty bond
>hot bond girl
>charismatic villain
>great plotline
>that torture scene

Quantam of solace
>highly forgettable plot
>some shit about water or something
>the worst bond theme since die another day
>plain bond girl

Skyfall
>gay villain
>annoying and dumb Q
>never ending establishing shots
>too many plotholes
>third act basically home alone
>moneypenny black for some reason
>plotline too similar to MI 1

>third act basically home alone

it's funny cus it's true

>>plain bond girl
QoS had the best Bond girl

Easily the best Bond, Casino Royale is brilliant. Dark, brutal Bond, but has that human side too.

And watching spectre was like watching paint dry. Most boring bond flick to date.

Joseph Gordon Levitt with a wig.
