This is nice and comfortable
What instrument is he playing in the first shot?
not minimalism in the traditional sense, but it is really good
this one is probably my favourite work still
discogs.com
Yoshi Wada amplified horns are on par with Riley loops imho

khaen
>The khene (also spelled "khaen", "kaen" and "khen") is a mouth organ of Lao origin whose pipes, which are usually made of bamboo, are connected with a small, hollowed-out hardwood reservoir into which air is blown, creating a sound similar to that of the violin.
>/Jon-Gibson-Two-Solo-Pieces
pretty good indeed!
You should listen to David Rosenboom - Brainwave Music
youtu.be
The 2 other tracks are quite different but still interesting (bleep-bloops based on brainwaves & Palestine-tier piano)
captcha: best Elektra
>Terry Riley & Don Cherry - Koln Concert
pretty cool collaboration

I had no idea they started to play together already in 1970 youtu.be
what's the deal with Italians & minimalism?! lots of good releases in Italy but not so much in other Euopean countries idk why...
Piero Milesi is currently my new favorite (after Lino Capra Vaccina, Roberto Cacciapaglia & Lino Capra Vaccina)
Yoshimura is awesome
I'm not shitposting but is I dreamed I dream by sonic youth minimalism at all?

(song not related)
No, it's no wave
Great song though

Hans Otte: youtu.be
Yeah, Modi is fantastic. Love the use of harpsichord. Italians really did it the best.
Have you heard pic related? Side 1 in particular is stunning:

>Su Tissue - Salon de Musique

nice to hear to some vocals with this kind of music
Su(e) was the singer of Suburban Lawns, a more basic new-wave band. youtube.com
Maybe it was a trend: some minimalists composers have released pop albums:
Roberto Cacciapaglia & Ann Steel - The Ann Steel Album (1979)
yeah, it's as pretty as the artwork
more Italians:
Luciano Cilio - Dialoghi del presente (1977): youtu.be
Futuro Antico: youtu.be
Piero Piccioni: youtu.be
Elicoide - s/t (1987): youtu.be
good thread
The overlap of minimalism and ECM-style jazz in the late 70s led to some interesting results, like Azimuth

and Eberhard Weber's Fluid Rustle

...both featuring the sublime wordless vocals of Norma Winstone
>Roberto Mazza
it's a bit too New-Age-y for me, but it's still great anyway

The Lost Jockey were a British minimalist ensemble from the early 80s. IMO they were inconsistent, but when they were good, they were REALLY good, as in:
"Beauty Bizniz"
youtube.com
and "Professor Slack"

where can i find this in full
All Italian minimalist heads need to check out the Music Interiors Vol. 2 mix by Spencer Doran from Visible Cloaks (if you haven't done so already):
rootstrata.com
I spent weeks last year exploring the works of the artists on this mix. Can't recommend it highly enough.
Volume 1, which focuses on Japanese minimalism, is just as good.
>inconsistent
hey, I really like each ones of their releases but they were derivative tbf.
Do you know Man Jumping? a new-wave/art-pop band by ex-members from Lost Jockey

yeah that's where I found most of these guys too lol
The blog listentothis shared most of them too.
>Andrew Poppy - The Beating of Wings
another post-Lost Jockey release:

This music is really great. When I'm listening to it I picture myself on the beach of a desert island at sunset, just watching the waves come and go.
Thanks for the great find, user. Got anymore with a similar sound to this?
thanks
Oh yeah Man Jumping is really cool, especially Jump Cut. I didn't mean to diss the Lost Jockey; I like all their releases too, just some tracks are way better than others imo.
Glad you like the Francesco Messina! To me, Harold Budd's Pavilion of Dreams conjures a similar vibe:

Also definitely check out the Music Interiors Vol. 2 mix mentioned above.
>Wayne Siegel - Autumn Resonance/Domino Figures
A 1983 minimalist masterpiece, recently reissued (you can listen to both tracks on here):
blacksweat.bandcamp.com
"Domino Figures" is particularly awesome - 42 nylon-stringed guitars blur into an ever-shifting ethereal mass of sound.
Glad to know someone else liked that mix as much as I did lol. Looking at listentothis now - what a treasure trove. Thanks, user!
Fuck yes, Sup Forums needs more minimalism threads.
I discovered this yesterday:
pretty cool!
292 minutes... is that good
more hapsichord for you (by Karel Goeyvaerts): youtu.be
Holy shit this is amazing--thanks, user! Exactly the kind of stuff I'm always looking for. Sits nicely alongside Xenakis' harpsichord works.
Great thread, what do we think about Pascal Comelade?
he's great! But I only know his debuts, from Fluence untile ~1983-86
One of the few French composers who embraces minimalism in the 1980's w/ Yann Tiersen, Klimperei
youtube.com
r these guys post-minimal?
This is dope. Where should I start with Comelade?
'Sentimientos' (1982) is probably the most diverse (included covers of Eno, Ayers & Satie) but I really like 'Logique du sens' (1983): he used toy instruments only.

If you prefer Berlin Schoolearn 8300, go for Fluence youtu.be
Yess, I mostly love his earlier work especially with Slow Music and Irregular Organs. Wish he made more vocal work, he has great falsetto. youtube.com
I love Klimperei too, great artist. Interesting how they both make childrens music though hahaha
These guys are great, mostly avant-garde jazz but yeah lots of post-minimalism influences.
Glad you like it, definitely check out Slow Music and Detail Monochrome.
any Klimperei recs? I only have listened to 'Les plus belles valses de Klimperei' thus far…
yep! The clarinetist is Wacław Zimpel. Check his recent album here:
Definitely check out Alice au pays des merveilles if you liked his childrens music input. Or you can check out Mécanologie portative with Pierre Bastien.
Not a bad album to start with actually.
Oh and Pierre collaborated with Pascal and Jaki Liebezeit. Pretty good album too.
currently listening Oblique Sessions II w/ Richard Pinhas: basically Comelade with drones.
>Dugout Canoe - Over Unity (2016)
one of my AOTY
no samples available on YT but check it now if you want to listen to the perfect fusion between Breakcore and Minimalism/Maximalism

I think some of you will appreciate this.

>Roberto Cacciapaglia - Sei Note In Logica
Prime Italian minimalism. Very Reich-y and Glass-y, but it's got a computer and some extra-playful vocals. The best.
youtube.com
at lot of these albums being posted are what I would call "ambient" and some venture into "post-minimalism"
is that right or am I confused about what "minimalism" really means?
>Garrett List - Your Own Self (1972)
just posting the best avantgarde-jazz/minimalism fusion ever made
youtu.be
Essential
no you're right, a lot of these aren't minimalism but in the op it only says post stuff about post-minimalism so i guess that's why
o shit, I didn't even see that
>only says post stuff about post-minimalism
(OP here)
I fucked up, I wanted to only write "minimalism"…
but on the other hand, post-m. is a broader genre: it shows how much 1960's/70's experimental musicians have influenced more mainstream composers in the recent decades, and other genre as well: jazz, ambient, new age, movie score (ie. Michael Nyman - Drowning by Numbers)
still, more traditional minimalism would be nice
well, nothing can't stop you to share more "traditional" stuff!
i don't know very much, just the basics
also, i like your choice in art
anni albers is dreadfully underrated
Bumping with some #rare Terry Riley
