Do I need to know music theory to /prod/?
not really, but it definitely helps to know at least the basics, like scales, chords, timing and other shit
doesnt hurt to learn but if you are a total noob most daws have plenty of tools to keep you in scale.
Does anyone else post their WIPs here, slightly hoping that some big name like Trent Reznor or Deadmau5 is lurking and listening to clyps, and that maybe they can hear the potential genius producer in you and invite you to be a producer or contributor on their team?
>I don't have the OP pasta edition
apparently all the links are dead anyways
no, but i'm glad you still have dreams
skrillex here dont let youre memes be dreams kiddo ;^)
just started putting this together
it's pretty quiet, but the kick might be a little loud tho

not bad, son. a lot of your tracks need highpassing though, like your hats and maybe your other synthy sounds.
this sort of reminds me of some clams casino type stuff, I enjoy. a fatter thicker slightly longer kick would work better I think.
well this is retarded
I'm having a weird problem in unAbleton. When I work with my gear (I sequence a synth from ableton), when I go to render the audio, it comes out silent. Empty. I have already made sure everythig is correct (master, not highlighting any clips, etc) and it still comes fucking empty
I tried saving a different project that had an audio clip with no MIDI channels, and it saved fine
What the fuck is going on?
really enjoy this one, maybe try layering a few more snaps over the current one and panning them around if you want it sounding more stereo
started working on a cover/remix of a weeb song i like, feedback?
anyone else use Logic pro X?
My issue is I'm trying to join some tracks together so I can export them to a producer. The problem is, some of my audio tracks dont start at the beginning of the song. they start somewhere is the middle.
I'd prefer to have all of my tracks start from the beginning of the song so the producer can just drop all the tracks right into his DAW and the song is already pieced together just like that.
But in logic, you can't just extend an audio track. Is there any trick around this?
You mean like bouncing stems? When you hit bounce just set the render start value to measure 1, beat 1, etc. like pic related. It'll render all the empty space as silence, if you have the track soloed
Eh. I dropped an EP that noone gives a shit about. Go ahead and dump on it.

how do i make music like Chvrches minus the hot singer?
fart into a microphone
I want to start making music with bass, synth and percussion, all simulated/digital of course.
Where do I start with this? Is there free software which would allow me to essentially place notes on a track for each 'layer'? Or is the only software that's used like $900+?
with a vintage warmer Vst?
Any good FL tutorials?
I realize that there are a ton out there, I just want to know if there are any that you guys especially recommend.
So you mean you're looking for a DAW? I'm not sure what exactly you're asking.
I mean you could pirate FL Studio like a lot of us...
It's just synthpop
Sooo, just write upbeat pop music and use overly 'synthy' sounds.
or avoid mining bitcoins for ivan and download reaper
not really but it makes it a lot easier
diatonic chord theory is useful, knowing which chords sound good together, etc
>dropfile.to
You need a DAW and some VSTs. Go download/buy Reaper. There's a bunch of tutorials on their site, should take no more than a week to learn the basics. Come back here to ask stupid question. Rinse and repeat.
Nice little bass line Satan, really grooves.
Good foundation, ethereal and dreamy sounding. That's what you were going for?
NOBODY CLICK THIS LINK
REPEAT
NOBODY CLICK THIS LINK
don't click that link it's OP's and it got exposed as a lockout virus
Too late
my antivirus was triggered so it saved me
THIS time... next time, maybe it won't!
an acoustic track I've been working on that includes some elements of electronic music. I guess kind of like James Blake?
How do I into music production, Sup Forums? Even if it's complete garbage I still kind of just want to make some type of music
can i into dubstep
clyp.it
Holy shit
That's actually really good
Turn the goddamn bass down though you fucking moron
um
apparently?
download one of the major DAWs, this way you can easily find resources and help online, and if you don't have any musical training, start to learn the basics, then you get into the actual production of the music, which is mostly reading up and playing with the technical parts of your DAW, this is best way to get into it, I feel, but you can learn what you want in any order I guess.
what the fuck is this
Why would you waste time making dubstep?
Are we really do this again? It's safe.
look i'm not your bitcoin slave fuck off. stop taking advantage of people trying to learn an art
Every time. Every thread. I'll be here bitch nigga, keeping people safe from your shit.
great now nobody will learn diatonic chord theory and /prod/ music will suffer as a result. also FML i just cracked my ipad screen
with longer kick and wider claps
youtube.com
Any more videos like this where people go into detail over how they connect their hardware to computer? It's kind of confusing to think of the best way to do it.
sounds pretty good. are you having trouble making it longer or that's just how you wanted it to be?
tfw still cant find cthulhu.dll torrent
When the rest of the percussion goes away the kick and snare sound a bit dry, maybe some extra release on them?
clyp.it
Where do I go from here guys?
That kick makes me want to kill my self. It's good song, but I'd replace the drums sounds my man
I want to hurt myself
Don't take that as a compliment
What does one need to read/watch/do to make music like that?
youtube.com
What?
>Deadmau5
is this a good sound
clyp.it
starting at 3 minutes to the end of the song how are they doing that? are they just lining up chopped samples? seems like theres more to it since there's a nice rhythm and it sounds good.
no samples it's just unquantized live playing and then micro edited it in the piano roll view
give nme the bad news
wait what? not understanding
>get a laptop
>download audacity
>record various instruments with the laptop mic
>use your mouth/table for drums
>use a shitload of layers of everything to represent the many layers of irony you're on
>randomly cut away parts of the song
>add reverb
>downsample everything to the lowest quality
you are now a bona fide lo-fi grandwizard, master of nostalgia and faux-sincerity
anybody used one of these? wondering if i should get this or save up for the r16
totally awful
not a single advantage over daw+interface with these relics from the 90ies
Why does MPC make my mixes sound different than when I listen to it in clyp?
>tfw realized I make shitty electronic music because I have no real feelings or experiences worth expressing in real songwriting
different in what way?
maybe record the output of both back to your daw and directly compare them
tinnitus loud as fuck today
drink some nice hot tea and listen to a good album just a tad louder
you got this, m8
learn how to produce in general, then you'll know how to do pretty much anything
you need a DAW, you can do anything in a DAW, after that you're gonna need synths and plugins to make your dreams become real. go on equipboard and look at what your favorite pro's are using, tons of resources there
the Image-Line manuals and guides on their website are amazing actually
what's up with the kick? replace the percussion with some actual drums, mix could use a lot of work, the track is way too quiet. it sounds like a great idea but produced in a very amateur-manner.
also, it's way too long with little variation throughout. quite a few cool ideas, drum programming at the end is pretty cool too
get a DAW, get instruments and plugins, experiment around, you need to spend a lot of time on it experimenting around, go through tutorials and read through the synth manuals, also equipboard is a great place to get resources
sounds very amateur, kinda like you got a few presets and threw them over a 140bpm drum loop, you need to learn the art of foley and how to make a drop sound fuller, that's the most important part, also variation and details is key.
boiiiii, this is great, I think the drums could be a bit louder in the mix, but your atmo and all the foley and shit going on is amazing, good work my man. this is so relaxing, perfect for something like minecraft.
ayyyyy this is pretty fuckin good desu, fuckin love it now when the chords entered. reminds me of Vinter in Vegas
rutracker?
it's way too short but it has potential, mix needs work tho ofc
this is bad, that pad is way too loud and it's tearing my eardrums apart, the kick is lost in the loudness of the pad. you just started producing right?
I think the intro is way too long, drums are very nice, this is way too hectic tho, mix is extremely muddy, you need to structure it and fix your volume levels, some of your effects are way too louder than your instruments. drums are mad nice tho.
In MPC there are sudden jumps and falls in volume while in clyp it stays somewhat constant.
I don't have the luxury of constantly uploading my track due to limited data.
I havent /prod/ in months, started an acid electro track last night/thi morning
Only the basics.
I only started producing after learning guitar.
Just downloaded Reaper and this shit looks complicated af. How do I use this?
What's a good keyboard to get for learning piano but also recording synthy stuff? Budget is around 2 grand
nord piano / electro hp
theres no kick and no pad. all sounds made with that bird sample
>i finally managed to find and install ableton suite
>i also got my electric guitar the same day
guys im coming
wish me luck
A little out of my price range but ok
they are expensive but worth it if i had the money i would get a nord for sure
Keyboards with weighted keys are shit for recording though. Response is less than ideal and good luck recording drums with it
what?
non-weighted keys are complete trash and I'm not even a passable pianist
Watch the videos on their site by Kenny Gioia. Start with the basics, and spam em on double speed. You'll be up and running by the end of the day.
Is gearslutz a decent site for information, besides Sup Forums - /prod/ or course
After exporting sound, some Kontakt tracks stop almost immediately. How do i fix this?
depends. there's lots of retards everywhere on the internet
i go on there or kvr once in a while and it seems to be mostly shills
set your export range so they can decay as long as needed?
The best place for music info is google. Anything you imagine, any problem you're having is there. Makes you wonder why people ask questions here at all
>Makes you wonder why people ask questions here at all
Mostly right, although some more specific questions are much harder to find an answer to.
But bullshit like 'hello how make musc?' should be ignored
thanks guys
>tfw uneven hearing
Fuck mate, mixing is hell
yea one of my speakers always sounds lower in my right ear and it sucks i wish i would have worn ear protection at shows when i was younger
wanting to be a musician is the most damaging of all arts
performance artists do crazier shit tb.h
can't you just balance the volume levels in the windows mixer?
just pulled the trigger and got me one of these, hoping it will be like a fun stepping stone into eurorack. fiddling with knobs are fun but i'm new to patching.
anyone /modular/ here? i'm hoping to eventually be playing ambient/glitchy live sets but for now i guess i'll use it for my prod things
there is a kick and a pad if thats how you use the bird
