Realiti by Grimes

can we talk about how Pop music has gotten so optimal these days

seriously I put on the radio to Z100 or whatever your shit-tier local equivalent is and I can't even get mad. Literally all the songs are made so that they make you happy and they sound good no matter how shitty your car speakers or computer speakers are its maddening

we are without a doubt in the greatest epoch of music production, no counter-arguments tolerated.

>muh 70s
I talked to an oldwhiteguy yesterday about how it was like to listen to Steely Dan in the 70s. He's like "oh well that stuff was bar music, we were listening to the Temptations and Earth Wind and Fire" no joke. Flipped me on my keister that comment did.

We aren't gonna remember shit like ___________ insert shit here it's gonna be all The Weekend ft Daft Punk song (perfect song btw)

Power pop, but still.

Not a huge fan of Grimes but this is a great song.

The '70s were still monocultural.

You now have people who actively avoid listening to anything made past the '90s, and it isn't difficult because you have access to literally everything ever recorded since the late 19th c, can arrange these recordings into playlists, and listen to them ad nauseum. I'm the only person I know in his 20s who still listens to the radio.

That's literally it though OP.
It can't be topped, it has no flaws.
Open and shut bruh

GOING TO THE 5DDDD

objectively this
youtube.com/watch?v=N4d7Wp9kKjA

I luv the valley OH! is such a perfect pop song

Good fucking choice OP. Something not by Bjork would be Atomic by Blondie.

I agree OP.

Ashes to Ashes is a close second.

>Literally all the songs are made so that they make you happy and they sound good no matter how shitty your car speakers or computer speakers are its maddening

I see where you are coming from but there is also several different streams within pop, some that in particular I can't get behind this sentiment I find they literally are fucking punishing on the ears.
For example there's the whole more traditional singer songwriter stuff like Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift ect. And I agree on that front while it's not exactly high art they have nailed down the catchy, feel good formula pretty well. I think I good answer for OPs question would be Shake It Off, that fucking jam gets stuff in your head no matter what.

But there also is a lot of come and go pop that is fucking insane, it's like this EDM crossover high pitched overproduced attention grabbing rainbow vomit, I don't know how anyone can stand it. Like this kind of stuff
youtube.com/watch?v=LPgvNlrBfb0

Also in reference to your last paragraph, The Temptations and Earth Wind and Fire are fucking amazing to be fair, I wouldn't consider that throwaway meaningless pop by a long stretch. September is an all time jam.

god only knows, heroes and villains

if you drive a car you probably listen to radio. I don't know what you mean by monocultural.

Earth Wind and Fire and the Temptations are agreed awesome.

Tobh I could listen to that Cher Lloyd songs at leats a couple times before getting sick of it. It's so common that it's as if nothing's were even playing, like TV commericals.

Great choice.
Less arty and more poppy, would be Dancing Queen. That song is seriously a masterwork of catchines and anticipation.

>We aren't gonna remember shit like ___________ insert shit here it's gonna be all The Weekend ft Daft Punk song (perfect song btw)

what did he mean by this?

Once in A Lifetime?

It's so toight like a toiger

youtube.com/watch?v=Ba0zFXPIaxw

when the "safe again" starts playing over and over again near the end of the song i always feel like i'm transcending into another dimension

Wicked Game

youtube.com/watch?v=Cwkej79U3ek

Say what you want, but it't the most recognizable and digestible song for mass consumption. It's got a distinct tune, a nice string arrangement, faux-deep love themed lyrics. It's unbeatable.

Maybe not now but when it came out Poker Face was a game changer that no one really matched

He didn't mean anything because all the entire phrase is shit

BIG

Life During Wartime by Talking Heads wins. If not that, tha some other Talking Heads song ill suffice. It's futile to think that anyone has surpassed Talking Heads in the balance of pop pleasure and artistic intent.

Perfect song and it isn't even Xiu Xiu's best...

I think Golden Gal is anco's natural conclusion to their pop music. Its just a perfect pop song

>monocultural
Up until the 80s music was made, produced, and created by and for people of the same culture (mostly, anyway). Back then, a person could generally *relate* to an artist, even if it was a pleb listening to some elite shit.

Now, separate cultures have developed in the US and many of them don't relate to one another. You could put out a pop song in the old days that might appeal to 70% of people, now it might be 20% at best.

How was Poker Face a game changer?
