Why is it called The Gambia instead of just Gambia?
Why is it called The Gambia instead of just Gambia?
Because it is THE Gambia
You know why. You saw the video.
Better question is: Why does it exist?
Same reason it's called The Netherlands, I suppose.
What a meme-country
Why is it called The Batman instead of just Batman?
>there can only be one
just look what happened to Guinea the moment it didn't copyright its name. Fucking Guinea-Bissau leeching notoreity
because he is called after a specific bat who was his pet
because of Zambia
Why do people say """""the""""" Ukraine
Officially its called Netherlands
Why is it called "The United States of America"
Colonial bullshit
No, officially it's called the Kingdom of the Netherlands
croatia
phillipines
greece
Because Ukraine is originally a geographical name meaning "outskirts", so in English it used with "the" like the Alps or the Atlantic ocean. In Russia it is used with "on" preposition instead of "in" for the same reason and Ukrainians are always assblasted because of that.

The Netherlands is one of the countries that make up the Kingdom of the Netherlands though. Technically they're two different things, one is a country that belongs to a state. It's similar to England and the UK.
im gonna keep calling it holland

So do we
No, the Northern Netherlands is what NL is today more or less, and the Southern Netherlands is today's Belgium, Luxemburg, and the Northern French regions of French Flanders, Picardie and Artois.
>lol why does this bullshit country exist, it has no right to, just fucking arbitrary borders drawn on a map xDDD
>said the Israeli
ditto
Probably the same reason why yours exist
Why is it called "The Israel"?
Lowcountries is more fitting
