The First Avengers is objetively one of the best Marvel movies and along Iron Man the only one that can be viewed as a movie instead of a tv episode. The reason of why people hate it is because they don't like artistic choices (this is the public is the one Marvel panders right now) and because it came the same time where the dark and gritty Nolanesque movies were still on top.
The movie is self-aware without being "le so quirky fourth wall" box office crap like Deadpool; It does political satire without trying too hard like TWS or CW.
Plus, Red Skull was a good villain.
