i think you have some pretty creative lyrics and the guitar sounds right in line with emo acoustic music
the singing really needs work. its not that its bad, but just out of key and doesn't sound great. i'd suggest pulling back a little bit and mixing your vocals in better with the rest of the music. try to avoid long notes...that's where i really cringe
that said you can still be a lousy singer and make good music imo. just be smart about it
if you want some inspo id check out some of the old bright eyes records. i love those and it sounds similar to the style you're going for:

I've been playing long enough I should be better. But that would probably help all around really, writing included. Gonna read more books again and start playing Rocksmith because I payed for it. lol

that sounds good but i'd suggest to just keep making music, but when you make something make sure it's something you would listen to before you release it. and something you'd think other people would listen to and think is quality. keeping this in mind will give you the motivation to hone your skills and find out what you need to do to get better.
for instance, listen to your vocal track. does it sound like something you'd buy? or something someone would listen to and enjoy?
i have a hard time even listening to the lyrics because of the focus on the vocal track.
a quick fix could be to just put some light distortion, a tad bit of compression, and reverb on it. compress your acoustic guitar a little bit as well, and bring it up in the mix. let your vocals 'sit' on the guitar more. it will take the focus off of your singing. if you don't want to do that, just turn the vocal track some.
doing things like this will make your music more listenable with little effort. and you'll slowly develop a style while you get better at guitar, make better music, and feel like you're actually progressing
Rocksmith is pretty cool, but you don't really need it. just look up tabs for songs you like and learn to play them. watch other people play them on youtube. practice over and over until it sounds perfect. i would pick stuff i knew was a bit above my level. learn elliott smith's roman candle or self titled as best as you can

i like the death metal acoustic folk gimmick here. the album cover made me kek (in a good way). im feeling a gothic bob ross right now.
the music doesn't quite hold up to the concept though. it could but its not there yet.
imo it could flow better. as in going from the soft folk parts to the heavy metal ones. maybe add some kind of build ups, or somehow just make it sound more cohesive.

i can give you my opinion on what could make it better. keywords "my opinion".
i'm not a huge fan of when people pan vocals. the vocals here are STEREO SEPARATED (there ya go) but they lose their power when they are so heavily distorted. i prefer vocals to be laid in the center and gain the focus of a track. i'm not against experimentation but it doesn't work here.
the beat is slow and sloppy. sounds like a drunk person playing drums. not a bad thing but they are lacking the eq to make it sound alright. give me a punchier kick and tighter snare at least.
no bass. if im going to listen to this slow, dull song at least give me more bass. what little is in there is all distorted and warped. most people prefer the bass to be down the middle.
its so quiet. do some eqing and mixing if you haven't
the weird little keyboard gives it this spooky music box vibe. unfortunately the melody is boring and not enough to carry the song. the song is only 1m41s but it feels double.
and be more creative. it sounds like you found something you liked and quit there. it needs more variation and flair
