Progressive rock is anything that doesn't sound like regular rock. Regular rock is everything that sounds like itself...

>Progressive rock is anything that doesn't sound like regular rock. Regular rock is everything that sounds like itself. All songs which sound the same. Every thing on MTV, every thing on the radio. That's rock. Progressive rock is stuff that doesn't sound like that.

What does zappa think is pure prog? What do YOU think is pure prog?

>King Crimson?
>Sometimes
>suddenly dies
Fripp you bastard.

>King Crimson?
>Sometimes
They are the only band on that list which constantly made Proge.

>What does zappa think is pure prog?
Knowing his taste well, he probaly would say Can as an example.

henry cow too

I Talk to the Wind isn't really so proggy.

this

and i think he considered "real prog" bands like gentle giant

dont forget that zappa was doing his thing and writing music before the term prog ever came around

thanks dweezil

He was doing faggy ass doo wop and straight edge psychedelic rock
the wilde flowers did prog before zappa and better

He's right, you know. There was proto-this and that, but the first "fully fleshed out" prog was Zappa.

I wouldnt even say the first fully fleshed out prog was from zappa. All you can say for sure is that his views on music and his musical taste/appetite were themselves progressive. What he thinks of as progressive music is going to be unique to him and him alone. This might explain his iconoclastic views on prog a bit.

That's a pretty funny interview. Constantly shitting on Mtv who's interviewing him, not giving direct answers to any of the questions, talking shit about Lennon stealing his song.

Jesus Christ, could he be any more smug and full of himself?

I actually think he's just spitting the truth that only a few would've spoke at that time.

If Zappa's fusion of rock with jazz AND classical wasn't right at the front lines of prog, what else was?

he acts like a 15 year old who just read his first Vonnegut book

Zappa is true, but pretentious about it

He's being extra pretentious in this interview since It's for MTV and he doesn't give a shit about it.

The little smartass acts like he's God's gift to humanity

He doesn't though, he just thinks the music industry is shit
