it just felt like an absolute slog to get through. i was tired by the end of it, and not in a good way. i guess i prefer a bit more levity in my intensity.

Listen to it more. But you might just not like it.
For me I can deal with longer music pretty well due to my excessive listening habits with post-rock, ambient, and soundtracks. Maybe try more accessible post-rock like explosions in the sky and get used to longer songs. Then try something like SWANS.
longer songs i'll admit i don't have much experience with, but i'm getting more used to them thanks to trying to listen to listen to mostly jazz for a month. where should i start with EITS?
