I have the opportunity to see Nigel Kennedy in a one-off performance in the Royal Albert Hall in London. Is it worth paying a sizeable sum to attend this concert, or is Nigel Kennedy just a meme?
Dylan Sullivan
Is this man underrated? I only found him because I like discovering jewish composers
He's quite good
Cameron Rogers
Yes, because I've never heard of him before. Give me a few of his pieces.
Lucas Edwards
Fuck I was about to post the exact same piece as the one you did and then I checked the embed link. Yeah that was my choice too, you are on your own user. But maybe some Lygeti.
Landon Gray
>What's the best composition that's decidedly unpleasant to listen to THRENODY h r e n o d y
What is some /classical/ approved literature, such as Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov or Knut Hamsun's Mysteries?
Grayson Baker
Who's the most unique composer?
Jacob Evans
Mathias Auguste
Jace Clark
To the user that was requesting the name of a certain solo piano work in the last thread:
Sorry, the thread archived before I saw your replies. Normally I'd be against disobeying the wishes of your teacher but I'll throw you a bone this time because you seem like you really want it.
The name of the piece is Presto. Hope this helps.
(It's actually the Toccatina from Schumann's Soirees Musicales, Op. 6. Clara, not Robert.)
Juan Howard
What's the most pleasant to listen to composition by Penderecki?
His 7th symphony His Adalbert hymn is pretty good too
Jose Martin
>Boyce haah waaw
I had to record a CD of English baroque church music and the Boyce stuff was easily the worst thing on there
Cooper Jenkins
All the best English composers are German imports
Bentley Davis
Purcell is good
Leo White
You might as well just say "Handel"
But you're wrong anyway.
Owen Nelson
Nope
Nope
Handel is like fetch, he will never catch on
Ethan Sullivan
>never catch on He was probably the biggest name in baroque music, certainly compared to the relatively obscure cantor from Leipzig..
Robert Wilson
I forgot, why was Bach not a bigger name during his time? was it the Mozart effect (A musicians musician)
Liam Gray
The genre that got the most attention from the most people was opera. Handel wrote lots of operas as well as travelling and working across Europe before settling down in England.
Bach didn't really go outside of East Germany and didn't write any operas.
Dominic Bailey
>Bach didn't really go outside of East Germany and didn't write any operas.
Truly an autistic pleb
Kayden Morales
His coffee cantata is practically a short comic opera.
Ethan Long
More like a short, secular oratorio
And whilst oratorios were popular too, they were usually tied to religious occasions and didn't have the same appeal as the pomp and pageantry of the opera
Andrew Sullivan
>What's the best composition that's decidedly unpleasant to listen to? Beethoven's 14th quartet desu
Jayden Powell
>oratorio I'd say it is far more opera than oratorio. It was made to be performed in a coffee house, far more lightweight and amusing than the preachy nature of most oratorio. There's no details of how it was performed as far as I know but even if it wasn't staged with costumes is was in a pre-made set of the coffee house. It is also a lot more dramatic than most oratorio.
Jason Young
I want to know too.
Brandon Parker
Shostakovich
Carson Lewis
Third of fourth pressing of Mahler
Lincoln Wilson
Petzold
Easton Johnson
Second or possible third?
Leo Brooks
Shostakovich never really sounded like Mahler to me. Rott was the guy Mahler stole his style from and then murdered. Furtwängler and Klemperer both wrote awful long-ass symphonies that sound like pastiches of Mahler's style.
Christian Nelson
what's good music to train my ear to?
Mason Adams
why did I wait so long to schumann?
did anyone else do this?
Easton Flores
I'm still waiting.
James Sullivan
it's funny since Furt was pretty critical of Mahler but then you listen to his music and it sounds like he took away a lot from Mahler. especially his 2nd symphony where there's a lot of the same caustic humor
i think Shosty sounds the most like Mahler in his 4th symphony and some of his later quartets
