I do this all the time. Not to make myself feel better but to see what they enjoy.

I've found a ton of cool things this way.

>rym
>read 5/5 review of an album you also love
>it's terribly written, pretentious, and cringeworthy
>tfw have to delete album and never listen to it again

>rym
>Not one has reviewed the music that you like
>give it a 1/5 to lower the chance that anyone else listens to it

>See that someone gave my favorite Sun Ra album half star and wrote a generic meaningless one-line ''review''
>check his 5/5's
>Arcade Fire, Green Day, Gorillaz, The Rolling Stones, Mr. Bungle, Queens of the Stone Age, Beck, Radiohead, David Bowie, the list goes on...

lmfao. Why would you not want that?

>look up your favorite album on rym
>3/5 nothing special

>looking at terrible pop music
>see someone gave it a good review
>check their profile
>it's WonkyDude98
Fuck that guy.

Happens all the time.

>guy gives mediocre score to album i like
>retarded short review
>same guy gave 5/5 to a bunch of Beatles albums
:^)

>someone gave 1/5 to my fav albums
>his 5s consist of just metal

for real

THIS
It always ends up giving 5/5's to the same few early beatles albums

Ew.

I love how his rating scale is inverted (lots of 1/10 and 10/10, very little in the middle) and he immediately points out using TheTopTens in the past. No wonder he's such a ditz.

this is the shittiest rym review I've ever read

>The album artist leaves a review for the album

>review where someone tells their life story and how it relates to the album instead of just talking about the album

I do this too

I've seen this way too often. When a review starts with "Let me give you some background info" I cringe so hard I have to turn off my computer and hyperventilate in a corner

oh god i just hate this so much, like, who fucking cares about that? i only want to see your opinion on the album and not a fucking story about yourself.

wtf
pls post examples

>caring about what RYM thinks.

Cmon guys we're better than this.

>favorite obscure album has only one rating
>it's 0.5
>guy who rated it is a generic avant-teen whose ratings are 3/4 consisting of 0.5 stars and yet he has zero reviews
It's about time someone starts banning these fuckers. Shame RYM is too liberal to do so.

>see .5 star review on a good album
>look at their other ratings
>5000 ratings and over half are below 2.5 stars
>their only 5s are either incredibly tryhard or incredibly generic

The first 3 albums for Green have reviews by the leader of the band.

>black saint and the sinner lady

>2 stars

>a bunch of bad/discouraging reviews on your fav release
>fuck it I go against the grain

>rym
>5 star review on an album you like that people usually don't like
>the user gives 5s to literally everything

fucking qwerty

this, but it still feels bad

>rym
>some guy writes a faggy short story as a review

>See someone give your favorite album a 5/5
>900 Ratings, 500 are 5/5

>using the opinions of others to justify the music you like already.

>review where somebody gives the same generic opinion that 2000 other people have given on the same album

It provides a new perspective on the music, faggot

>reading reviews of an album you don't like
>someone likes it because of a personal story
>wtf I love this album now

>guy gives very pretentious negative review of an album you like
>check their 5s
>ABBA and Bach
Every single fucking time

>when this faggot pops up with shitty meme poetry
>when the review is absolutely terrible and pretentious even by his standards

hmm, nice

This.

>using RYM
since when was Sup Forums's prefrontal cortex collectively impaled with a shovel?

>the review is a shitty "short narrative" that doesn't have anything to do with the album

Congratulations on reading a completely meaning in what I posted.

If your liking of music depends on the fancily arranged dribble of a review by jimmy fuckall 1000 miles away, then you are posturing and not actually enjoying said music.

>I first found this record in 2004 in a record store about half a mile from my house. It was a dark, damp and strangely mysterious place. Perfect for discovering records like this. The guy behind the counter, whom I could only assume was also the owner judging on it's small scale and lack of popularity, would sit there with an expression on his face I could only describe as...

I'm not the guy you replied to, but I made this thread

I genuinely enjoy listening to the music whether or not somebody put a good review or not on rym. I and most people in this thread are admitting to being affected by other peoples opinions. We know we shouldn't but we can't help but feel it

>user gives less than 3.5 on favorite album
>check his 5s ratings
>[insert generic Sup Forumscore]
into the trash it goes

lmao

Nice

>want to get into an artist that's hugely popular in a non-English part of the world
>has dozens of albums on the site
>not one review
>a single Radiohead album has over 2000 reviews
Why?

Because rym isn't a non-english website

>have to fuck with your own ratings because every number of x/5 must be divisible by 10 or 5

isn't there a guy who listens to only abba and soulless milquetoast metal and calls literally everything hipster trash

Really? Because a lot of the reviews on the site are not in English

He's gonna sell this review as a book
