When I ask gaijins who learn Japanese the reason why they learn Japanese, they always answer it's not for anime. Why?

Denialism

Because they are insecure.
And they are actually interested in anime.

Tsundere weebs are the best to bully.

>start by something due to Anime
do you want to get bullied?

I'm learning japanese because the last 3 anime/manga i saw/read had a fuckton of puns so i got mad and decided to learn the language as revenge.
I'm still trying to memorize Hiragana and Katakana, though.

Is japan a country racist?
Please a serious answer, i'm getting a scholarship

can you use 古典 when you want to talk about music classics like stuff from the 80s or some shit, or what do you say then

No. 古典 refers things from ancient ages.
一昔前の is good way to say that.

教えてくれてありがとう、先輩

WOAH, just read 60 pages of Yotsuba+ without getting stuck, checked the dictionary only once. Last time I attempted (2 years ago) it took me a good amount of hours and I had to check the vocabulary/sentence tables all the time.

If you look Brazilian/Peruvian, they can be depending on where you're settling, because they have their fair share of halfu immigrants coming back home several generations after and forming ghettos over there.

Should I be concerned that I'm getting mature cards wrong?
My correct rate is about 95% but when I see people here posting perfect retention rates for, and the fact that I have a pool of mature cards several hundred large- meaning even 5% represents several dozen terms, it's kind of alarming.

>tfw learning cs all day long
>still have to do my anki reps
I want to die.

You should be good as long as you're above 90%

yes, you should feel very bad
you might as well drop japanese all together, this shit is unacceptable

I don't want to learn Japanese. If I were to learn Japanese it would ruin anime for me.

drop anki

anime is ruined somewhere in your 20s anyway

Yeah you should honestly just commit suicide. You'll never be as good as a native. Natives of any language never forget words they've learned and they most certainly never use phrases like "what was the word for x again?".

And with joy returned to my heart, I can safely retire to my bed.

Good night, DJT. Don't kill this thread too!

I've been reading more into grammar and one that that always confused me was the quoting particle. Mainly the interpreted quote, and what is actually being quoted and what isn't before. Is it just by context or are there given rules?

Yes.

It's by context

ネコが飛び出す丸い入れ物

>read Hanahira
>don't get shit

Given this is the one people called incredibly easy, that was kinda disheartening.

Du bist alt.

Hanahira doesn't have easy grammar, it has no grammar! It's a trainwreck of sentence fragments and abbreviated slang. Try reading something that has complete sentences instead. Like NHK News Easy.

Disclaimer: I haven't read Hanahira. I'm basing my evaluation on screenshots of the game and conjecture.

Grammar seems to be my biggest issue, yeah. Vocab is something you can always look up but more complex sentences are lost on me.

I've tried a bit of NHK News Easy and shounen manga with furigana and found them more to my liking. I just want to get to a level where I'm not so frequently lost.

>I just want to get to a level where I'm not so frequently lost.
this may take a while though

Puns were part of the reason I started, too. I believe in you, user.

How long are we talking on average?

better than my reason, I just want to bane post in nip speak.

I want to marry イモト

>today i've finally reached the 1000 cards in 2k/6k
Feels good.

おめでとう

Does anyone else using the core 6k or 10k sporadically have Anki "cut off" the first audio file that plays the word and start playing the sentence?

I have to press R to replay to hear the word, sometimes multiple times before it gets it right.

it was my receiver using optical waiting too long to kick in, probably due to conversion delay, so i change the input to PCM

ありがとうございます。

>optical waiting
u wot?

Meant to select "using optical". Anyway, I'm not really sure what you're referring to.

>I'm still trying to memorize Hiragana and Katakana, though.

The worst part is the kanji. Kanji will fucking break you. Ready to memorize thousands of characters with slight variations between them?

I have 2.5k matures and other 2K+ on a custom deck.
It will takes me forever to reach the full 6k. :/

>Just got done learning Hiragana and Katakana
>"Alright not too bad so far, what's n-"

To be honest, kanji are tough, but memorizing the most common radicals really helped me. It's not knowing that the 氵 in 湧 means "water" that helps me - desu, I've forgotten a lot of the explicit meanings - it's being able to split up the character into recognizable components 氵, マ, 田, and 力.

What it doesn't help at all with is kanji with eight dozen readings like 上 and 下. I haven't found a memorization aid for that besides brute force.

>desu
The word filter gets me every time.

Is following sentence ok? I have problems with particles, like to, o and de.

>Watashi wa kino tomodatchi to basu de gakkou ni ikimashita.

I need to study radicals. Did you just use the Anki deck in the guide, or another resource?

Use fucking kana/kanji

綿死は木の友脱着飛ばす出学校似生きました。
Kind of strange.

Remember the Kanji, book one, is good for getting used to kanji components. It can be done alongside whatever else you are doing.
It is kind of polarising in that some anons love it while some anons hate it.
There should be an Anki deck and pdf for the fifth edition (or maybe the sixth edition) in the CoR.

Im beginner

it's perfect, moomin-kun

So learn your kanas and stop using excuses

昨日、友達とバスで学校に行きました。・Yesterday, I went to school with the bus with my friend. Or I went to school with my friend with/using the bus.

Temporal nouns like 昨日 and 明日 are best used in this way and don't usually need particles.

As for the rest, just (sub-clause)(particle).

昨日、yesterday・友達と friend with・バスで bus using・学校に school to・行きました。went.

Simple.

you can use a bunch of different methods to get audio from your pc to a receiver, HDMI, RCA to 3.5mm jack and toslink(optical)
however optical has a conversion stage from digital to light then back
on top of the dolby digital compression conversion, the time adds up to a nasty startup delay
PCM is uncompressed therefore its only the optical delay

im probably wrong on the details, but PCM works, i don't know your particular speaker setup, just sharing a similar problem that i was having

Thanks

How do I type 九

Memrise says the kana is きゅう but when I type that the option for 九 never comes up?

/djt/ i did something very bad.

because of reasons, i had to stop anki for a few days and came back to see 400 cards waiting for me from the 6k core deck

i tried over 3 days to do the cards while still being able to sleep between my job and college, but couldn't get it down below 300.

so this morning i just hit 'hard' on all them just to get the count back to a manageable 0 so i can 'start over again'

how fucked am i

Just tab more、it's there

Ah ok I found it, but it's paired up with another character, that will do though

>Ah ok I found it, but it's paired up with another character, that will do though
That shouldn't be the case. Which IME are you using, Microsoft's or Google's? The former is dogshit and you should get Google's if you already don't have it.

I'm using Google's. When I typed kyuu it wasn't coming up.

Also I have a problem with Google's IME, I have to reinstall it every time I turn off my laptop, is this normal? Otherwise it doesn't appear in the toolbar at the bottom of my screen.

>Also I have a problem with Google's IME, I have to reinstall it every time I turn off my laptop, is this normal?
Not at all. What OS are you on? Also you don't have to activate it from the toolbar every time, you can bind it to hotkeys.

ここにいると、たまに俺らとほぼ変わらない日本語を巧みに使いこなす外国人がいるからびっくりするわ。

On Windows 10, I'll have a read up and see what I can do hotkeys-wise, cheers.

just keep going

Note that all DACs introduce a small amount of delay (usually less than milliseconds) because you have to oversample the audio before reproduction to prevent audible aliasing, and oversampling = resampling = you either need taps on both sides of the sample you're generating or you're using an IIR filter that has positive group delay.

Reference is pic related.

let's 筆談

It's called hiding your power level.

What's hard about it?

Dig deep where you stand, for surely it is there that you shall find a spring.

With fairly obvious metaphorical interpretations.

Just put new cards on 0 for a while.

Wasn't asking for a translation.

そうだといいけどね
残念ながら世の中はそんなに甘くないよ
でもまぁいいかエロゲが読めるならそれしかいらないよね

Do you keep track of which VNs you've read/played?

Then delete your post.

Did you read it?

You didn't ask a question. Don't blame other people when you're too lazy to write your post properly.

It should be がある instead of である though

Yes of course

I was asking about あらむ, and checking to see if someone who knew a bit of classical Japanese could check the あらむ→あらん→であろう|であるだろう、as that is what a few natives on 知恵袋 were saying and everywhere else was just explaining the expression in modern Japanese.
Thought it was pretty self evident if you read the post but obviously not.
These are one of the 知恵袋 posts I used.

There were a couple of others with more or the same thing.

How many VNs have you read?

41, not counting fandiscs/alternate versions/shit I read in English/shit I dropped.

Nice, how many years and how would you describe your language proficiency because of it?

Slightly over 2 years and good

Taken the JLPT or J-CAT?

何が好きのどうじん?

What the HELL is this turbonerdry?
Next thing you know one can't do Anki reps without having a Hi-Fi system connected through XLR cables that are no longer than 1m..

shit i'm only at 30 (also not counting shit i dropped and such) and i've been studying for forever

how do people read so much

if the front end of audio is cut off from most things it really doesnt matter

なの

何が好きな同人? barely sounds like "what's your favorite doujin?/what kind of doujin do you like?."

好きな食べ物
好きなゲーム
好きな日本語 these are how to use it

そんなの興味ないわ

This score is from May last year, would probably do better now.

The key is to have no other hobbies or stuff to do in your free time.

>The key is to have no other hobbies or stuff to do in your free time.
But then I wouldn't have time to shitpost on djt

More seriously though I'm pretty happy that DJT got kicked off Sup Forums just because I spend much less time here these days.

I shitpost on DJT too, but you can't spend all your time here. You should be reading a VN right now, and tab out every now and again to quickly check it, like me.

what vns did you start on as a raw beginner, if i may ask

>The worst part is the kanji.
Grammar is hard opinion in my opinion
Kanji is easy

Sticky Note user here
Day 3 into the practice and it's going well, it's helping me remember Kanji more strongly and by noticing reoccurring radials I can sometimes guess a kanji's stroke order correctly.
Gimmicky bullshit my butt.
