I've long lost hope for music journalism, but part of me still wants idk, RA or some other -somewhat decent- bleep publication to call out asquith, meme grab and other assorted lofi garbage for what it is.
I really thought that they'd start doing it when it turned into a bunch of freshers using dumbass 90s sitcom aliases and other jokes, but yet it didn't.

I'm torn about it because there are some tracks from this mainstream sponsored by youtube™ lofi house ""movement"" that I genuinely enjoy, mall grab has a couple bangers amidst the garbage and Winoa, though i won't listen to that viralled shite, is actually a good track. It's hard to argue against something when it's genuinely fun and comfy.
With that said - they're really bad DJs (only heard awful things about mall grab and DJ Boring's sets), Asquith has uncontrollable diarrhea when it comes to releasing anything that gets submitted to him on LT, and there's a blatant lack of respect for anything that came BEFORE the movement - which is hardly a good foundation for starting one.
Is that enough to warrant a big call-out?
That's my perspective, anyway. How d'you see it? Sounds like you find it worse than I do.

Don't get me wrong, I don't universally hate LT or something, some of it is genuinely good, as you say, Route8 especially. And I've always allowed them their techno releases which have been quite consistent in quality. It's just that when music becomes more about memetics and its virality, the actual point behind it is lost.
Idk, how old you are, but I've seen the exact same thing happen to dubstep in '08-'09. It erodes a genuine community when outsiders enter it without any historical perspective. The type of people you 'd usually see at gigs isn't there anymore and the crowd gets very "trendy" iykwim.
