Is XTC underrated?

Is XTC underrated?

Definitely the best synthpop band of the 80s. Making Plans for Nigel is just scratching the surface.

That album was their best, to be quite honest.

eh, i guess.

>he's only listened to Drums and Wires and/or Skylarking

>Hes never heard Black Sea
>Hes never heard English Settlement
>Hes never heard Go 2

>synthpop
>XTC
boi...

Recommend me some XTC so I can get into them. Favorite album? Song?

Start with English Settlement

Start with Skylarking and Drums and Wires.

There's something that rubs me wrong about Skylarking. It sounds really cheesy in some places. If something like Earn Enough For Us was done by The Beatles in the Hard Day's Night era, it would be excellent, but the way XTC executes it just makes it campy or something. It's the production I think.

I second this

I see Andy Partridge all the time when I'm out and about, the guy isn't very nice but he made some great music.

Doesn't the guy have Brian Wilson-tier anxiety or something?

Makes sense

yeah, it's a good album but definitely schlocky

go 2, drums and wires, and black sea are all the xtc anyone really needs

Yes, his stage fright was why they stopped touring. He tries to keep a low profile now but everyone in Swindon still knows who he is.

they're actually pretty overrated

DUDE GOD SUCKS LMAO
DUDE THE PROBLEM OF EVIL IM SO SMART LMAO

>has never the big express
>has never heard the dukes of stratosphear
>has never heard nonsuch
>has never heard AV1&2

>I'VE ONLY LISTENED TO TWO SONGS BY THEM LMAO

I second this.

XTC are underrated in the U.S.
Not so much in the U.K.

This World Over off of The Big Express is one of my all time favorite songs.

>Start with English Settlement
literally their worst album of the 80s

*unsheathes The God Delusion*

*Dibs Bedora*

It's a good album, but it's a bit unwieldy as an entry point

enjoy your shitty dry dub riffs and political preaching

Dear God has a fantastic melody and chord progression. Shame about the preachy lyrics.

I will.

Roads girdle the globe

I've always like their demos and b-sides better than most studio stuff. Gangway Electric Guitar is one of Andy's coolest songs imo. It should have been fleshed out and put on an album.

I think that's what I feel too, thank you for expressing me.

Do you believe in God?

no
