Re: the logging shorts discussion from last thread

In my opinion there's a difference between logging 'canonical' shorts, or going through a collection of them, to just logging random shorts you find on YouTube.

Like if you're watching a short that's deemed artistically significant (like Maya Deren/Brakhage or whatever) or are watching a boxset collection of shorts, then feel free to log, I imagine nobody would have an issue. But when it's a random 6 minute short you watch on YouTube, it feels like an empty exercise with the sole purpose of logging it on letterboxd

>tfw trying to download THE RIVER from rarbg and people stop seeding when i'm at 39.1%
pls

so your argument is that some shorts are inherently more artistically valuable than others, and only those should be logged?

No my argument is that when some shorts are being logged people will question what the actual purpose is for watching them

what do you mean by random?

am I not allowed to see an interesting short randomly on letterboxd and then watch it on YouTube ?

...

Based Malick-Ford bro.

Obviously you're allowed to, nobody's stopping you

But the question was why some people had a 'problem' with it, and I'm saying it's probably because the logging of it feels disingenuous, like it is being watched solely because it is short and easily digestible, and that you have a letterboxd account to log it with.

how is 'randomly' logging a short film any different than 'randomly' logging a feature film

Because logging a short film and having no real interest in feels like an attempt to pad numbers

What is someone like smoothhands (as an example, as he was the original subject) really taking from an 8 minute experimental non-narrative short?

Would he bother watching it at all if he didn't have a letterboxd account (knowing it could be logged at the end)? Obviously we can never really say one way or the other, but it certainly feels to me like no he would not, the length rather than the content seems to be the main draw to him

watching movies for posturing reasons isn't exclusive to short films. i see no reason to question smoothembryo watching a short film any more than you would question him for watching a feature film.

I think everyone ran away from Sup Forums altogether

what happened? you'd think this place would be popping with summertime here.

you new to the threads?

Mods abandoned this place many hours ago and haven't returned

no recent capeshit

Good thing this is the only thread I have on and haven't opened the catalog in a day.

Is steakbro basically Belisarius 2.0? Too bad he can't take a hint.

Do not bully ITT.

well, cool. enjoy it.

it's funny because i'm getting blamed for a bunch of shitposting about MIAMI VICE and FURY ROAD that i'm not even responsible for and i feel like everyone now hates me because of it

...

>The time of the day when Steakbro will defend trash like Villeneuve.

letterboxd.com/sintiyalezzuhly/list/mind-fucking-films/
r8 my list plz

every time of day, dude. like i said in the last thread, the dude is perfectly functional. not an auteur or particularly great, but his directorial style is effective and economical, very well-suited to the projects he attaches himself to. hating that guy feels pretty irrational to me, even if you don't like his films - his direction is never the problem.

that's it for me, though. gotta go to bed.

>I gotta go before I get shitposted to hell.
Faggot

it's almost 6am where i live, guy. feel free to roast me all you want, though, cause i'll read it when i get up.

Welcome to /lbg/, remember to enjoy the bantz

so what's this 'Trump Rally' thing? I assume it's some anti-trump vid from that review

It's a 20 minute short film of a Trump Rally. That's it.

Some people say it's a liberal propaganda piece, but it's not like it's a fabrication or anything. It might be selectively edited, but any decent short documentary should do that.

I'll give you a full-blown belly by sundown

I watched that on vimeo, idk if it is the one you mean but everyone seems like they're from fucking MKULTRA..

spooky shit

did they just happen to crash the most inbred town's trump rally orr what

One Wonderful Sunday was a nice surprise from Kurosawa.
Looking for more recs for my 'poverty porn' list.
Will probably watch Wendy and Lucy next because a few of you rated it highly.

>Getting off by watching poor people

truckin' my blues away

It's ok because I am poor as well.

is no okay user

>TRASH
what did he mean by this?

I actually like Trump, but the short really is an example of how most of his fanbase are white trash.

who was that Indian (maybe Bengali) filmmaker you were talking about a few weeks back? I've been trying to look up other worthwhile Indian filmmakers aside from Ray but all that's coming up is Bollywood garbage

Why do some people shitpost about Tarkovski here?

letterboxd.com/Lozjudai/

Because pretentious wankers give five stars to shit like STALKER on their first watch

because he has one of (if not the worst) fanbase of any director in the canon and they need to be checked constantly

go back to daily herb, nobody here likes Jordaan Mason

>nobody here likes Jordaan Mason
wrong

>Pronouns for Pride month!
every time i see this i get triggered all over gain

It could have been Mrinal Sen, Ritwik Ghatak or maybe Adoor Gopalakrishnan?
I have a film watchlisted from each director, so if you're keen to check them out, let me know.

Oh, and I'm pretty keen to watch The Desolate Beach by Tapan Sinha after loving The Hungry Stones.

Western plebs think he's exotic and deep.

I don't think it was any of them. I can't seem to find it in your diary either, it must've been something you mentioned in passing haha. I look forward to checking out One Wonderful Sunday though, it definitely looks unlike anything I've seen tonally from Kurosawa so far.

w-who this

...

Is Garland the only modern (mainstream) filmmaker to be influenced by Tarkovsky - and not just aping him like AGI?

>Sokurov
>Malick
>Nuri Bilge Ceylan
>Reygadas
>Zvyagintsev

Thanks for those, I'll be sure to check them out.

How is Malick influenced by him?

Any more good lesbian-core movies?

You start first.

fucking Sup Forums. I used to like Rooney Mara, but now I can't help but look at her and imagine the smell of shit. Fucking hell.

What did Garland mean with this strict grid in the picture?

2deep4me

ex machina is trash, please stop spamming

Get some taste lad it's a visual pump and cum

Chasing Amy is about a lesbian.
Really well written as well.
I mean, if you just want to see two girls scissor, just watch Blue is the Warmest Colour.

>visual pump and cum
what did he mean by this?

I wanna fuk dat robobitch

I have PTSD from the film because this gal couldn't stop eating with mouth open or stop her mouthbreathing

Yo, do me a favour and watch The Children’s Hour with Audrey Hepburn.
I wanted to do a lesbian-core list a long time ago, but never got around to it.

Whoopsy daisy wrong picture!

there's nothing interest about washed out, lifeless kubrick-ian landscapes and badly done speculative sci fi. you should follow your own advice and get some taste

>tfw i can't sleep
might as well post in /lbg/ while i wait for the exhaustion to come so i can finally pass out

if you haven't seen INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS already, you should get on that. fits your theme pretty well.

Based anti-art Steakbro

do these threads encourage a non anonymous atmosphere? I mean having a look at these profiles must give an insight into who's posting what in other threads?

That pic is GOAT scifi

sup, secret admirer

Sup Forums has never been anonymous, like this faggot here is clearly Steakbro and Sup Forums has allowed names and trips since 2005 and you can tell who is who by following post chain.

You're a fucking r*ddit

It's easy to pick out the shitposters after awhile.

>Rectify & Villeneuve
IT KEEPS HAPPENING

fuck off and stop caring about other people's film counts.

is Rectify bad now?

>posting 2nd worst HHH film only topped by Millenium Meme
>Watching Memetify.
Yes.

letterboxd.com/Synt/

Color of Night might be one of the strangest erotic thrillers I've ever seen. Anyone else seen it? It seems almost broken, but on purpose.

darn. guess i have to tell my buddy we can't keep watching it, then.

>2 friends have watched this film
>it's invariably nokhi and rischka

>You're a fucking r*ddit
never been there. I prefer the anonymity which is why I'm not posting mine
