How exactly do you raise a boy and a girl differently? Do you not feed one? Do you not give both toys? Giving a girl a Barbie Doll and a boy a GI Joe action figure is not raising them differently. They're both getting toys. The toys just so happen to gear towards different demographics.

by giving them completely different expectations. for example, making a boy study hard and get into a good college so he can provide for his future family while not caring about a girls grades because she wont go to college she will just find a good man and take care of his kids

its difficult to come up with modern examples because boys and girls are raised much more similarly now. But one that comes to mind is sex. parents often arent okay with their high school/college aged daughter having sex whereas they often are okay with their son having sex

Yeah, I'll agree that that's a huge double standard, but again, I think it's so rare. Or at least in the community that I grew up in. Even then, it's usually the fathers that worry about their daughters and the mothers that worry about their sons.

Not original arguer... but where I work, a restaurant, the front of house staff is mostly female high school graduates going to college on their parents dime. The back of house is all men except for one woman (a tweaker). The men are all high school graduates except for one who is still in high school. ONE person is in education beyond high school besides me. He takes night classes. Perhaps there's a reason for this. Perhaps there's not. But one is still different from the other.

yeah, i was really just trying to give an example to answer the question. boys and girls are raised much more equally than they were in the past. but it was at one point very common to raise them differently

Yup, we've come a long way in a short period of time. Is there still sexism? Probably, but not for the majority/general public

I believe that if a boy likes girly stuff that's fine and if a girl likes boy toys that's fine as well but if they want to be sterotypical boy that's fine.

It's less this, and more about gender stereotypes. Like, girls should play with dolls and play dress up etc. While boys should go roll in dirt and throw footballs. It's the same thing, I suppose, just to a lesser extent..

If I had a boy I would give him boy toys, but if my boy tells me that he wants a barbie doll or some shit I would give him that just to make him happy, but up until he tells me in some form of way that he dislikes stereotypical boy toys I'm going to give him boy toys
