Slayer first 3 albums are absolutely essential
Metallica and megadeth made a bunch of good songs but it gets boring very fast
Anthrax first album is good, that's about it
none of them, metal is just a inmature genre.
if you wanna listen to the "real metal" go and search for good ol' avant garde norweigian black metal.
Disagreed. Megadeth definitely put out some quality, consistent releases.
tips le fedora.
>i discovered hipster metal yesterday: the post
ignorance is bliss, i guess.
How did Anthrax even make it into the big four?
Hard to say as I like them for different reasons.
-Metallica - fast, raw, rocking
-Megadeth - faster, more technical, more interesting overall
-Anthrax - humorous, fun, rocking
-Slayer - pure agression, good songwriting, but weak musical ability
They were all bretty gud
i haven't listened to enough of megadeth or anthrax to say
but i like how rough metallica can sound
this i'm sure
I like slayer the most, but that might be because they were the first metal band I ever listened to.
Because they're better than back sabbath?
I hate how anthrax are always shat on they have some fucking killer riffs.
>Metallica
>the slowest Big 4 band
>fast
?
If you take into account the majority opinion, it's still Metallica. Like in real life, Metallica appeals to non-metal listeners the most, and they are the majority userbase here.
But for a more even spread of love, it's probably Slayer. People who don't metal that often like their 3rd and 4th albums. People who are getting more into metal tend to appreciate their 2nd and 5th albums a lot. A good number of guys who have been into metal for a long time love their first album and the EP.
For me personally it's between Megadeth and Slayer as the only things I care to listen to from the Big 4 are Megadeth's KIMB, Slayer's Show No Mercy, and Slayer's Haunting The Chapel.
O-okay Varg
Metallica have the best ballads musically, lyrics are often pretty edgy 15 year old but their harmonic and dynamic sound in Fade, Unforgiven, One, and the intro and clean part in To Live is to Die. All really beautiful
Clearly Megadeth is #3 and Anthrax is #4. My current inclination is to put Slayer at #1 but I could easily switch back to Metallica in a few months just depending on my mood.
Slayer > Anthrax >>> Metallica > Megadeth
metallica easily had the longest string of A/A+ metal albums of all time.
Anthrax doesn't deserve to be in it desu
Megadeth is easily my favorite.
>black metal is truly the most superior of the metal genre
>my apartment smells of pine tar and I have many hand spiked leather jackets
you mean his room at his parents house.
>Sabbath doesn't exist
TESTAMENT
Metallica
Kreator - Pleasure to Kill is the best thrash album
It all comes down to Metallica or Megadeth.
Metallica has been successful venturing into other territories and despite being "weak" in terms of technical skills, their composition knows how to compensate it. They're my pick.
Megadeth is by far the most technical out of them, and probably the one with more artistic integrity. However, Dave is very close minded in terms of composition.
Slayer have failed in doing anything outside thrash or speed; and even so, they can only be interesting in small doses.
Anthrax is very underrated, but at the same time they aren't near the other 3 on what they're best.
If the question was, who's the best metal band? Megadeth, without question.
Slayer is the most metal.
Metallica gets pretty proggy.. has the highest headbang appeal.
Megadeth produced the best thrash album of all time.
Anthrax is whack as fuck lol
>Judas Priest
>Iron Maiden
This, judas priest has an incredible streak of good albums
god, i hate this album
I would say as far as commercial success, obviously Metallica, with Megadeth coming a somewhat distant second. In terms of musical ability and talent, it's a matter of preference, Megadeth is for those that enjoy technical styles, Metallica has that more fast-paced punk sound incorporated, Slayer is just raw aggression, and Anthrax will continue to be the red-headed stepchild of the bunch.
Slayer > Metallica > Megadeth > Anthrax
Anthrax has only 3 good albums, Among, Spreading and Fist.
Megadeth has RIP, Peace, Killing and SFSGSW?
Metallica has Ride, KEA, MOP and AJFA
Slayer has SNM, RIB, HA (the best big 4 album), SOH and SITA + Divine Intervention.
I prefer Slayer's first 3 above all, but I love me some RTL and Peace Sells, not to mention that I adore Among. But to be fair, big 4 isn't even the highlight of the genre when you have Kreator, Sodom, Morbid Saint, Sadus, Sepultura's Cavalera era etc.
Exodus or death angel should replace megablah and antwax
I hate faggots who comment "le x should replacy y". The reason those 4 are the big 4 is not because they're the best bands within the genre, but because they made the most money and were perhaps mainstream as mainstream gets thrash wise.
is this actually a thing? I would say the metal big four is like Iron Maiden, Pantera, Judas Priest, and Sabbath.
how old are you for real
Anthrax>Shit>Metallica
>Justice for All
>A/A+ metal album
By being one of the first four big thrash metal bands, I suppose.
Ever heard of Bolt Thrower, son?
>Being that guy
Iron Maiden had Number, not to mention the severe drop in talent during the 90's from which they never recovered.
Anthrax's latest album was surprisingly good. I saw them live last week, and having seen Slayer, Metallica, and Anthrax live, I'd choose Anthrax to see again if I got the chance. Hopefully they'll be back next year.
>death angel
toppest of keks
Their gigs are always bursting with energy, but their latest output sounded like your run of the mill thrash album. It didn't do much for me.
Slayer>Megadeath>Anthrax>Metallica
Venom is better than all of them though
20
metal sucks
razor
they all suck dick
Fuck off, Varg.
Slayer by far. Their first SIX albums are absolutely masterful.
This
A more realistic metal big x would be:
Slayer
Metallica
Megadeth
Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
Sabbath
Pantera
the biggest similarity is that they went to shit by 91
yes. i unironically consider Justice to be their creative pinnacle. too bad about the production
Anthrax
I have seen them all live at different times. imo Metallica was good until they went commercial, great shows regardless. I love Megadeth but not as great live. Not a huge fan of Anthrax but they were worth seeing live and a good band, good show. Slayer, I love this band and was nvr disappointed at the live shows. By far my personal Opinion is SLAYER!
my guy
that wud be extreme aggression my gent
There's no such a thing as a consensus on Sup Forums. Hell, the mos civilized thread I've seen here was when /metal/ discussed anime.
Now, regarding the Big 4. Nowadays Anthrax is the most creative of them, their last two record kick the shit out of The others' last two. Back in the 80's Metallica and Slayer where at the top of their game. The 90's was Megadeth time.
slayer smokes. haunting the chapel and hell awaits
kys
objectively Metallica is better and bigger than those three (plus a bunch of others like Exodus or Testament) put together
It's the Big 4 of thrash metal, not metal in general. The tag was labelled to these bands in particular for being the pioneers/icons of the genre.
It adds to it imo. Makes it even more interesting and helps its cold, harsh vibe.
I agree, Slayer is the best
new anthrax is fun, they still have good riffs and joey can sing better than the rest of the big 4
>Highest peak
1. Megadeth
2. Metallica
3. Slayer
4. Anthrax
>Consistency
1. Anthrax
2. Slayer
3. Megadeth
4. Metallica
