There are still people who think frances is better than this

>there are still people who think frances is better than this
>there are still people who think relationship of command is better than this
>there are still people who think this isn't one of the greatest artistic achievements of the last quarter century

>there are still "people" who like mars volta

disgusting

Cygnus and Cassandra alone are better than any track on Deloused I'm very sorry.

MY MY MY NAILS PEEL BACK

the last few minutes of drunkship of lanterns make me cum internally

The whole of Drunkship of Lanterns makes me cum externally.

fair

best album ev3r

That album had no filler like the in the other ones because of the producer, also that album saved modern prog rock from shitty mediocre prog metal that was popular at the time.
Thanks Rick Rubin for producing this album, your magnus opus.

Do I have to be spanish to like them? I just don't get the appeal.

this

i actually refuse to listen to any other mars volta besides because it's nowhere near as good as this masterpiece. i just get disappointed when i try.
i would kill a man to own it on vinyl

>that album saved modern prog rock from shitty mediocre prog metal
By inspiring shitty copycats like Coheed and Cambria
and Closure of Moscow? Porcupine Tree and Tool Clones were at least decent.

Amputechture is the best Mars Volta album

>Closure in Moscow
>shitty
Nigga, Pink Lemonade was a 9/10 album and it didn't sound like TMV

Pink Lemonade is literally Penguin of Doom copypasta in music form, the epitome of shitty sporkcore

Relationship of Command is a lot more fun than this pretentious heap of garbage. Mars Volta has always and will always feel like a tamer version of ATDI.

The lyrics are, the compositions are pretty food.

Definitely the best thing Flea has ever done. Everyone killed on this record. A rare joint that compels the entire program through.

Cygnus Vismund Cygnus is one of the best songs i've ever heard

>Porcupine Tree and Tool Clones were at least decent
i like PT a lot (although I prefer 90s stuff) and i even quite like tool, but i can't think of one decent clone of either of these bands

Porcupine Tree and Tool are so shitty they fall into prog metal.
Actually I think they actually play prog metal in alot of their albums.

For PT
Riverside, the Pineapple Thief and Gapzpacho

for Tool
Karivool, Rishloo and Soen

PT and Tool are heavy prog, not metal idiot

>hurr more melody = tamer

both great albums, but Deloused trumps RoC in every possible way. compositionally, melodically, instrumentally. and the quieter spaces on deloused actually give it more sonic depth and dynamics so you really feel it when they kick it up a notch.

the only real problem with Deloused is that the lyrics are complete bullshit, but this was often the case on RoC also

>Mars Volta has always and will always feel like a tamer version of ATDI.
The two literally feel nothing alike.

The only Mars Volta song you need to listen to is "The Widow"

TurboPlebâ„¢ detected.

>the only real problem with Deloused is that the lyrics are complete bullshit, but this was often the case on RoC also
I don't understand how Deloused's lyrics are a problem in any way, apart from the occasional line here and there people quote because 'why it no make sense??'. Music has no obligation to clear textual communication, and the lyrics are great at evoking the specific sequence of settings, events and atmospheres that the storyline progresses through.

DUDE TRANSIENT JET LAG ECTO MIMED BISON LMAO

in/casino/out, relationship of command, de-loused and frances are all masterpieces as far as i'm concerned, why is Sup Forums always so tribal about this shit. it's how y'all always have to pit spirit of eden and laughing stock against each other - can't they both just be great?

after frances it gets sketchy but everyone knows that

>after frances
actually after they fired Jon Theodore

Bedlam In Goliath is so much better though

isn't that like the only TMV song that got on mainstream radio? it's also the worst song on frances lmao

>after octahedron it gets sketchy but everyone knows that

fixed

closure in moscow are a lot better than anything steven wilson has shat out and tool too
theres still great songs but they lost the initial groove they had with their first drummer, also i think john and flea stopped collaborating after frances

This
It's like Sup Forumsstards never go past the best selling albums

>closure in moscow are a lot better than anything steven wilson did
top kek m8

>talking shit about noctourniqueef
boii

Noct > Oct

Didn't Bedlam win a Grammy?

Meh. It's the only TMV album I don't enjoy front to back

Mijn iggas

Yeah but it wasn't given a good review by p4k :^)

I like Bedlam plenty but no.

>he enjoys Octahedron front to back despite it having Since We've Been Wrong

p4k hates anything Omar and Cedric do

...

Therefore, so will this board.

Oct is the only TMV album I remember virtually nothing about.

Noct is 50% forgettable but the tracks that work are beautiful. I've also sometimes thought that Deantoni outshines Omadric in a few places, so many of the highlights on N are thanks to the percussion.

>Yeah but it wasn't given a good review by p4k :^)
doesn't pitchfork hate all their albums?
>btw they remind me of some starved to death version of gary spivey from hell

c'mon lads, when frances is good it's fucking amazing - the best they ever did - but can we please admit that at least 20-25 minutes of it is complete bullshit noise that could only possibly be enjoyable if you're baked out of your fucking mind

it could just use a little editing, is all i'm saying

>he likes buttprog
p4k hates anything that sounds out of place in a posh coffee shop/restauraunt

The Mars Volta might be my least favorite band of all time. When I think of unbearably obnoxious, grating, nails-on-chalkboard music, I think of The Mars Volta. I'd rather kill myself than sit through an entire Mars Volta album.

yeah, it's like king crimson's moonchild. just delete it.

t. brian eno fan

does Eno hate the Mars Volta or something
delete ur life desu

>buttprog
But I don't like closure in Moscow

tru

wew look out this guy dislikes the artist this whole thread is about omg

Debatablity of the claim 'noise and ambience is only enjoyable when baked' aside, it's not designed for casual listening. The tracks are structured like films, complete with lulls in the action and passages that build tension/atmosphere.

>this isn't even copypasta
God damn son.

why's the production such ass

>noise and ambience is only enjoyable when baked
not what i said, and i like a fair amount of ambient and drone records, i just don't think they do it very well on frances. the noise passages are neither actively engaging nor passively enjoyable

i like boring background music exclusively
