Ask a bored Best Buy associate anything

Bump. These are always amusing/educational.

Ya I'm super bored over here bro

Sorry dude. Been to bestbuy a few times and all the blue shirt guys were bros.

How much are they paying you and what are day to day duties? I'm thinking I applying.

Ya for the most part. Bros, stoners and the occasional revolutionary types

Do you guys carry the jaybird x3s yet?

What stock can you steal?

Let me check one sec

Ya but we have none in stock

PS4. EASILY.

I could get away wiTh a lot I'm sure, little things of course
But I don't risk it

Which store? I work at 587 in Pennsylvania

How do I get away with nicking something?

Wouldn't wanna risk saying for obvious reasons but I work at a Massachusetts store

Yeah they seemed pretty cool with simple questions I had. They leveled with me on stuff which is all you can ask for. Don't mean to be rude but do you get training on technical stuff or do they just hire guys who know what they're talking about?

Depends what you want. Just gotta stay below the raydar no pun intended but the new trend is getting your own magnet and stealing games/gps

It's more general people skills then you'll get occasional training videos on specific products if vendors pay for it or even training nights which vendors pay for

131 here bro

Ok, I gotcha. Like your work?

Eh it pays the bills while I go to school. I could complain but it would be the same shit everyone says about their part time jobs

I'm getting 12.50 but
I work in the warehouse so your duties may be different on the floor. They have expectations such as a revenue oercentage per hour

If anyone is interested, here is how someone got away with stealing literally 8-10 iPhones, 5 pairs of Beats, and numerous other little things.

>Work AP/LP
>Grab stuff to spiderwrap
>Instead of wrapping it, hide it in the drop ceiling in the LP Office
>Have friends come in the store and give them the goods after you've taken off the discharge
>Rinse and Repeat

Maybe the managers were just stupid, but this guy literally did it for weeks and no one found out. It just got added to Shrink. I'm pretty sure our old LP guy stole about 40 high-dollar items.

If your manager was fucking you in your rusty virgin asshole, and he pu

May not be that effective always, my lp office is right st the front near the main enterence

So was ours, haha.

Idaho best buy employee reporting in

Let's sayyour manager was fucking you in your rusty virgin asshole and he pulled out, and there was a piece of corn stuck in his pee hole. Would you suck the corn out and eat it?

Must have been a bunch of idiots. I always thought if you were brining a bag in and stashed something in it claiming you came in with it
You may be able to pull it if as long as they forget and don't notice it on the shrink later

Microcenter employee reporting in, you guys suck. but you have good prices.

Lets just say you failed when you failed trying not to fail the first time you failed posting this fail. Kill yourself

is there really no better place to buy things?
be honest

Yeah, I understand. Kinda the way things work. But you guys in these thread/irl seem pretty alright. What's one piece of advice you could give me about buying something from BestBuy? (without stealing or that bullshit)

>710806489
Hello and sorry for my poor EEngland. What is Best Buy pleace?

Hmmm well there's not many honest loopholes aside from the fact that we can budge on open box items up to 60% off is what our manager just told us. They'll try to lowbal Obv but it's up to 60% off original

What a lot of people would so with smaller items is take the packaging off of the product, go to an isolated department (90% of the time, Appliances), and hide the packaging in the base decks because they don't get looked at until a reorganization. Then just sneak it in their jacket and walk off. Our store didn't have Apple, Magnolia, etc... so to give you an instance on how long the store had been put, we found a paper gift certificate from 1999 underneath one of the base decks in 2014.

Is it the Dartmouth store? My brother works there, he's a piece of shit

Thanks man. That's actually pretty good advice. Good luck with school. Best of luck.

Sorry guys I'm pretty new here. Am I a B/tard yet lol ^_^

>jaybird x3s
Do you have experience with this brand? I had bought some LG earphones on ebay that lasted me a while but they eventually die. Im assuming it has to do with me being out in the sun, wondering if these suffer from the same issues.

No problem bro thanks for the entertainment

To clarify, this COMPLETELY depends on the product. Best Buy's products are Dynex, Insignia, Init, and Rocketfish. I could easily see these being up to 60% off.

Other products such as Apple, Bose, and what I'll refer to as "high-end consumer" items are price locked and MSRP isn't supposed to be changed. The store can actually get in trouble for discounting a Bose item without authorization from Bose. There are numerous vendors like this.

Valid point I forgot to mention. That's correct some items are locked by asshole vendors but
Most appliances for example are up to that 60% off

MY NIGGA! I USE TO WORK WAREHOUSE TOO BUT I QUIT THAT SHIT AND NOW IM AN ELECTRICIAN BUT GOOOOO WAREHOUSE

(Not OP) Jaybirds are known to be some of the best Bluetooth wireless earbuds, which is why they typically start around $120. I haven't used the X3's, but considering that Jaybirds have a good track record and you want to spend the money on them, they're probably a good buy. If you're not happy with them, obviously you can return them with everything in the box.

If OP gets bored or flooded, I worked at Best Buy for 4 years with way too much authority for not having any type of supervisor or manager roles (I worked on the sales floor, over the phone, and Geek Squad) so I may be able to answer stuff also.

Sweet, thank you.

Fuck ya bro whse is
Where it's at, below the radar, good pay and no bs rev or credit app expectations

I blew my boss once in the warehouse.. well he wasn't my actual boss but he made me call him daddy when he nutted

Exactly dude. The warehouse I worked in was full of a bunch of chill ass dudes. Warehouse doesn't get as much credit as its due though. We actually WORK

That's funny, my boss blew me in the warehouse once... His soul patch tickled my balls.

why is your nose crooked as fuck?

I'm also bored, so I'll start dumping green text stories about a retard I used to work with behind GS that some nerds might find funny.

>Computer comes in to GS
>Desktop has XP
>"Sir I can work on this, but XP isn't supported" I recommend you save the $200 on Tech Support and use it for a new computer"
>"No way I aint giving M$ money blah"
>Check computer in and bring it behind the precinct
>"Customer says the disk drive isn't working"
>Computer is 13 years old, no shit
>Do my basic diagnostics, BIOS still recognize the ODD, so maybe it's the lens
>Put the Windows XP CD in, ODD works fine.
>Mark the computer is "OK", call the customer and let him know it's ready

Next Day
>'Retard' is working on the computer
>"I resolved this, why are you working on it"
>"obv u didnt fix it, because his CD didn't work"
>asked the customer what he was trying to do
>"play a movie"
>retard did another 8 hours of virus removal, labor, etc...
>retard tries installing Windows 7 on the machine, deems ODD bad because it doesn't work
>I take literally 9 seconds to look at the computer
>computer has a CD drive, not a DVD Drive
>Write, verbatim, "Retard tried to put a DVD in the CD Drive"
>Supervisor came in, saw it, and made us redo all of the notes so the customer didn't see
>leave my shift telling the supervisor he's an idiot and that's not integral
>supervisor stares as I walk out the door

Former BBY employee here. It's not worth it. I was there for five years in Home Theater, Gaming, AP, and Appliances. They gave me about $0.25 raise per year and the only way to move up is to suck a lot of dirty dicks.

If you're gonna do retail, I hope there's an IKEA in your area. They take care of their employees really well.

got one for u, is it mandatory for a blue shirt cunt to ask "why are you buying this 3 gigabyte storage?" to a customer? Or was that cunt being a fuck tard to get me to act nervous an accidentally say porn. And yeah it was for porn.

Did you steal something yet?
What did you steal?
Would you steal for people asking?

Associates, to a degree, are trained to ask what the drive is "for". This will help the associate make sure that you're getting the right HDD depending on the space that you're utilizing, i.e. backups, school files, documents, NAS. Surprising I had a lot of customers that came in grabbing a 16GB flash drive to do "backups", so this was a good way for me to make sure they had a larger HDD because obviously the first backup (assuming it's a verbatim copy or disk image) is far larger than 16GB.

Did y'all do it near the compactor

Not OP, but former employee. They want you to talk to each and every customer to find out what you're there for and why for a few reasons:

- To convince you to buy the more expensive version
- To convince you to buy more crap to go with it (this is why they need to know why you're buying it)
- To convince you to get Geek Squad Protection for all the crap
- To convince you to pay for it using their store credit card

Anybody not making their best attempts to do all of these things, whether the customer needs it or not, is punished for not annoying the shit out of you and trying to pull every last dime out of your pocket.

Oh, and they also keep approaching you to make sure you're not stealing.

Yeah I get it, the customer lacked knowledge and your coworker is an idiot. And you seem like an asshole.

Ya man we get a little downtime before truck but straight slaving when there's a truck or the days following

HOW CAN I STEAL A TV!????

There's gotta be some trick I could use, right? Like, even a small TV or something, I just want another one

Some sales coaches give lines to say to further The sale and add atratchments like more cables and shit

I used to work at best buy for some faggot named Mickey. Fuckin hated that guy

What is AP/LP?

I used to work warehouse will this really tall motherfucker that smoked lots of weed and gave decent head.

I probably did come off as an asshole, but it pissed me off that he knew so little about computers. I'm being honest when I say at least 20% of my job was cleaning up after his mistakes.

>Restored computers and didn't install the drivers before giving them back
>Gave customers computers back while the original trojans were still in their temp files to be re-executed
>Literally lost someone's HDD during a data backup
>Broke an LCD panel in a laptop by closing it too hard.

If you're going to have a job, at least do the fucking job correctly.

Asset Protection/Loss Prevention
i.e. the people who stand at the front of the store and give you stickers for your products.

that guy sounds like the coolest!!

I want a discount. What do I have to say to the salesfag/mangerfag to get a discount on a product?

Why if i ask you where something is you then dont leave me be? I get youre bored but j dont need anymore help but you guys stand there staring at me saying you can order it here .

His head was awful I worked with Mickey too his head was great

Sometimes they assume you're stealing so we're told to nag you honestly or maybe there socially awkward associated

is the gopro 4 silver is gonna be under 280dlls on black friday ???

It's hard to come by honestly unless you slide a product in front of a tag and make it clear that you were mislead sometimes they'll override and give you it if it's not too steep

i wish i could win a video card, i live in brazil and here things are too expensive... i love gaming but i dont have money to buy it :/

We don't get that info from corporate until much closer to bf or cyber
Monday

You know Geek Squad is a scam right. I once had my computer fixed there and they tried to convince me it's unsalvagable and tried selling me a new computer. I smelled that bitch trying to scam me, all it really needed was a new hard drive.

Not a scam usually but they have a habit of telling people wiTh older pcs to buy a new one because the service center has cut offs for shito

Best Buy doesn't train them to fix shit, they're salesmen first. It's the same with Staples, OfficeDepot/Max, and all the other big box stores.

Hmmm I think you might be able to pass an old reciept for a tv off at LP. So buy the tv another time or at another store, quickly flash the model number on the reciept to lp and casually walk out?

If it's small, like 19-24", you MIGHT be able to steal a large blue bag from a register and fit the TV in there. TV's are large enough that they shouldn't beep.
If it's larger than that, you'll need someone on the inside who wants to risk their job, because it's not going to get through the front of the store without a receipt and it's not going to make it out the back unless it's on the delivery schedule.

As OP said, unless it's marked for discount, Best Buy is extremely stingy about them, mainly because EVERY item that is changed in price gets put in a log that managers have to verify the next day. If a manager can't justify a reason they marked it down (especially if it wasn't approved by the manager and an associates did the discount by themselves), then they can get disciplined for it.

To be honest, a lot of associates assume people by themselves haven't been helped. If you get bombarded with 4 different associates, they probably all thought that you haven't been contacted yet. If it's the same associate, he's either bored or Management thinks you're up to something.

This is usually not the case, but unfortunately a lot of Geek Squad people (particularly the one's checking you in) don't actually have a lot of knowledge. What can happen, however, is they put your computer in the system and Nova/STAR (If STAR is even used anymore) will say that the device can't be serviced because Geek Squad City can't order the parts anymore. This is extremely common for computers that are roughly 4 or more years old.

Honestly almost of the geek squad guys I know are actually pretty knowledgeable

If Geek Squad Associates actually use the resources (eLearnings) they're given, there is a ton of awesome information in there. The problem is that Best Buy doesn't necessarily encourage GSA's to learn anything because they give them the tools they need, such as MRI (Automated Diagnostics and Virus-Scanning) and Agent Johnny Utah (Geek Squad installers remotely fixing computers between their installs, or GSA's from Geek Squad City (the service center). If you ever get a chance to talk to someone in the back of the precinct (they usually hide so they can actually get things done), they're usually pretty knowledgeable as speaks to.

great moobs too!

Exactly, it's sometimes as though Best Buy cant get out of its own way

I could use more pics of that stroage

Do you have an attractive sister or mother?

Do you have any nudes of them?

Very true, for these companies salesmen are literally the only thing they care about, can you sell? Yes. Okay heres a tech shirt
I've been working at staples easytech for 3 years and the only tech who actually know tech stuff is me and one other person on the bench every other person is a salesmen and could not even tell you why youre going to need more than 4 gigs of ram im not saying i know everything in the world about computers but i do go to college for computer science and its also the only thing ive been doing since i was in middle school so it pisses me off when i get new hires on tech that dont know a fucking thing especially when they piss people off
>guy needs a new hard drive his hdd is 1tb
>associate suggests a 240 gig ssd plus a data transfer
>guy has legit programs and associated files that would fill that easily
>im not in store for 3 days
>takes other associate 3 days to finally tell him he might need a bigger SSD

For the most part 80 percent of the time you are completely right they are just a salesmen and very rarely a girl tech
however there are some that actually know their stuff im not even near smart in computers category and i passed the 901+902 comptia
>you gotta start somewhere
also you can tell i dont know much about computers because im going for networking certs
FUCK PROGRAMMING THAT SHIT IS HARD
