ITT: Award winning movies that no one remembers

Benjamin Franklin.

The Artist

I remember liking the soundtrack

...

I can't believe how fucking dull this movie was. Not just the writing, the acting wasn't even special. It doesn't help it was shot like a fucking TV movie.

Most best picture academy award winners, honestly. How many times has the Academy actually gotten it right?

I remember wanting to fuck the poo girl.

the revenant

The last best picture winner anyone remembers is No Country For Old Men

Seriously, look at everything past that, it's all basically forgotten.

Exactly. And that's one of the maybe four or five wins where it was actually warranted, IMO.

Not that I really care about the Oscars, but it's baffling that people still give them any credibility at all.

People still talk about Birdman but that might be because it resurrected Michael Keaton's career.

Literally who does?

It was a movie that came out to pander to movie snobs. It had almost no mainstream appeal. It was made for critics and academy members.

I remember this entire movie

Kid falls in shit and gets a question right
Kid gets a hundred and gets question right
Kid loves the girl and his brother is a cunt
The host tries to trick him in the bathroom
The million dollar question was about the 3 musketeers

It was a pretty good movie

Every best picture winner after 2007

>this stretch from 2009-2015
2009: Slumdog Millionaire
2010: The Hurt Locker
2011: The King's Speech
2012: The Artist
2013: Argo
2014: 12 Years A Slave
2015: Birdman
Spotlight

Will this year break the curse?

Gonna go out on a limb and say "no"

There are only two hopes left

Mel Gibson's Hacksaw Ridge (but the jews will never give him best picture)

and Scorsese's "Silence"

Shit movie

>Movie implies that the show is live

Always triggers my autism, the success ratio of a phone call will be 100%, since the movie revolves about this fucking show it's not a minor detail

Based on their track record, I feel like the better Silence is, the less chance it has of actually winning.

The Oscar will go to some bland film with the Weinstein logo at the beginning of it.

Not enough capeshit or action for you plebs?

How could squander such a stacked cast?

> The King's Speech
> 12 Years A Slave
> Birdman

At least these are genuinely good movies.

the fuck was this shit

Couldn't even finish it desu.

The King's Speech and 12 Years a Slave were very good.

The artist.

> "Priests are abusing people oh no!" - the same characters have the same revelation every 15 minutes for 2 hours: the movie

Im a movie snob and it didnt really appeal. It appealed to actor snobs.

Hurt locker, Kings speech, 12 years a slave were all good

other than The Artist, the movies are quite easy to remember.

The Artist was pure critic pandering, what a waste of time.

was he autistic

I really liked the movie.

Then I watched it a second time and was sorely disappointed.

King's Speech

>Hollywood pedos hate Catholic pedos

Slumdog, Hurt Locker, King's Speech and Birdman were all good

There will be a lot of contrarian remarks but let's not pretend this isn't a very good movie.

In terms of craft it's well made and ticks all the right boxes: very good script, great performance, solid direction and hits the right dramatic notes. Problem is it really is just a very good movie, not remotely close to a great one. It doesn't elevate the genre, it doesn't do anything spectacularly; just everything well. To be honest it doesn't even have any particularly memorable scenes, most of the great films I can think of have at least 3. It was a weak year but this still won't stand high in the pantheon of film in years to come.

A very good move, just not a great one. Awards should only be given to great ones but then again, I can name a more deserving winner for almost every year the Oscar has been in existence.

That shitty one with the 3D.

Hugo, right?
