a lot of people hate DN but idk I never had a problem with it

Maybe.
Actually no. Sonic Youth are too hip and ironic to represent rock music as a whole.

Rock in its entirely? No. Guitar music? Maybe. Although I think Marquee Moon would be more appropriate. And it comes from a guy which his favorite album is Daydream Nation.

daydream nation is sincere as fuck, though
it's just too self-aware (teenage riot, eric's trip, etc)

>babby's first noise rock
>peak of rock music

try again.

I SEE A FALLING SNOW GIRL WAAAAALKING BROADWAY

>being entry-level precludes it from being a top tier record
"no"

No, but the production quality certainly does

Its fucking BORING

It's pretty shitty compared to other noise rock albums, and the production fucking sucks.

>muh production
nice job missing the point. go watch fantano or something, sissies

Sister is better

that's not even Bad Moon Rising

muh niggah

Yeah that's my fav also

Sage'd

Daydream Nation, and basically Sonic Youth as a whole, ripped of 'Dunedin Sound' that had originated 8-10 years before Daydream Nation. Is it a good album? Yes. Is it original? No.

Dunedin Sound, years earlier. Sonic Youth credited it as a major influence. youtube.com/watch?v=X-ABoH4KAlc

>Dunedin Sound
recommend some artists?

...

More like the rock bottom of music, lol.

Anything produced by Flying Nun records. Basically a plethora of post-punk bands that sound exactly like the punk from 1987 and onwards (Sonic Youth era).

10/10

The peak of rock music? Please. Peak of all fucking music, I tell you. Forever and ever.

My fav album, always will be, I knew it the moment I heard it first.

80s Sonic Youth is good but it could REALLY use a couple remasters

You don't have a fucking clue what you're talking about, kiddo. Listen to the originals you imbecile. Can you not appreciate authenticality?

lmao

Really, wasn't Lo-fi noise rock the aim of the album? There was a period of time where they were aiming to make their music melodic, but the sound production/distortion to sound like shit. Avant-garde from the 80s, dude.

Not only that but they pretty much just watered down the no wave scene when much more interesting stuff was going on contemporaneously. Stuff that was more heartfelt, stuff that was more innovative. SY were just marketed better thanks to (((DCG))). Near any band in Our Band Can Be Your Life is superior

I remember years ago watching a performance of Sonic Youth saying "Fuck the record companies" etc. It was really their thing back then. Sonic Youth are among a few bands that are responsible for my tinnitus today. Wear earplugs kids.

it's both an stylistic choice and an expression of the material means available to them
ddn comes from a times when the term "indie rock" still meant being basically broke. i think it cost something like $20k to be record

SY isn't strictly no wave, that's kinda misleading
their sound is more indebted to Glenn Branca than anything

Fucking nu-trips don't even know what they are talking about.

Yeah I was actually gonna add an (and Branca) but decided against it for brevity but agree. I actually don't hate SY but I just really find them overrated and hypocritical
