How many people here actually play an instrument? If you do, what instrument do you play, how many years have you been playing for and what sort of qualifications do you have under your belt? Also, what percentage of Sup Forums would you say actually play music to a fairly high standard?

Bassist.
I don't have any certifications but I'm confident when I start playing.
I've been playing since HS.
I can play one note at a time pretty well
Monophonic synths have ruined me....
keyboard. I have been playing for like 2 years I switched from bass (which I still kinda play but am not as good anymore)
I don't have any sort of credentials, I am not even sure if there is such a thing as a "certified musician" like there is a certified engineer or certified mechanic, but I have been told I am pretty good
Play guitar, not really good at it though, just a hobby. Been playing inconsistently for 5 years, no qualifications
Violin month one kek
Been playing for 12 years now, started on the flute when I was 6. Have been playing ever since. I'm currently on my 7th grade out of 8 in ABRSM. I also play the tin whistle and uillean pipes (Irish instruments). Irish music is my main focus and I play gigs on a regular basis. I can kind of play the sax, because it's very similar to the flute and have started playing the guitar.
played trombone for about 10 years but eventually studies got so rough I got out of the habit of practicing
I'd like to think I was real good but you know how it goes when you don't play for a while
also a bass that I play for sad and alone times, but I don't take it seriously
Drummer, 3 years, no qualifications. Neighbors hate me.
If you're one month in and old enough to be on here, quit now. You will never be even remotely good and you're just going to make everyone around you uncomfortable and give them headaches till you do.
Jesus. Bit much there. I've seen plenty of players who started during adulthood become decent or even better than decent.
Piano and keys, over a decade. Also a competent guitarist/bassist. Learning mandolin but the tiny frets are fucking with me.
Played French Horn for 6 years, and mellophone for 6 years. I would continue but college got in the way. I'll eventually get myself a horn again though, when I have lots of money. I was pretty damn good, but I had to practice constantly to keep it good.
impossible. violin is the hardest instrument to learn and if you didnt start training since child you will never be good.
i play double bass decently, performed this at a bass competition not too long ago and scored the highest i could youtube.com
i play saxophone too, bari and soprano are my fav. doing this for a competition also youtube.com
i also play a bit of guitar, but it's hard.
(if anyone wants to start an internet midewestern emo band with me pls reply to this)
I play saxophone. I have played since second grade, but I'm not all that good despite that. I played in my school's band until 4th grade, then signed up for private lessons, which I took until I graduated high school. I also played in my high school's jazz band. I was the worst one there, but it was good practice and it definitely helped me get better.
Clarinet since middle school. I'm the principle player at my university, don't plan on pursuing music as a career though
i play cello, drums, guitar, bass, and i can struggle through claire de lune on piano. id say im pretty good at cello/drums but the other 3 are mainly hobbies. as a cellist i was consistently invited to all state in high school, and as a drummer my marching band and indoor percussion groups normally scored top 5 at our competitions.
all state meaning the state wide honor orchestra, sorry i didnt clarify
Percussionist/drummer for most of my life, I'm going to university for music. I don't know if I'll do past undergrad though, I can't see myself getting more out of grad school in a field like this besides more debt
>soprano
>fucking soprano saxophone
>your favorite sax
kill yourself fucking subhuman
it's literally the second best saxophone you ignoramus
I want to, I replied.
thank you, what do you play and if you're serious we can trade emails/soundclouds
I'd love to start an internet midwestern emo band. I'd be super into that.
if the other guy responds then we're already at 3 members, heck yeah.
soundcloud.com
I play FL Studio
I'll shoot you a message tomorrow for sure. Look forward to it.
thanks buddy, what do you play? i guess i would play bass guitar, but i wouldn't mind dropping some double bass or winds
I'm a tuba player, have been for 19 years now.
I eked my way into honor band in high school, majored in music in college but ultimately settled for a minor when I simultaneously realized I didn't want to be a band director and was never going to run train on pussy like Oystein Baadsvik.
But I remain loyal to the iron bass, own a sousaphone, planning to trade it in for a decent BBb concert horn. I'm rusty as hell but if needed to play like I could in college I could bust it out. Just might need to be hospitalized after the show.
I played electric bass for a few years. I play five chords on the ukulele. I've been studying piano/keyboard shit and composing lately.
drums for seven years, just last month began lessons for jazz drums
played guitar since january 2016
hey i'm playing tuba in a brass quintet because they couldn't find anyone else to do it. i used to play euphonium, but the change hasn't been too bad. we're doing this youtube.com
Hey nice. I started on the baritone but struggled with the upper register, so the director switched me to tuba and that was that.
The euph/baritone are pretty closely related to tuba, even called "tenor tuba" sometimes. Most tuba professors can also play euph and vice versa.
That is a pretty nice quintet, can't go wrong with Canadian Brass. Hopefully in concert band you get to play all those sexy euph solos though.
according to a private teacher i have "unique mouth anatomy", so i have a weird embouchure and it lets me play in the upper register easily. i'm this poster, and i haven't played euph in an ensemble for years
I play violin for 9 years, viola for 5,guitar for 2(I learned guitar by myself), and piano for one year, I plan to go to music academy
Piano 9 years, guitar 7 years, drums 4 years, violin 2 years. Jack of all trades master of none. No qualifications
