This is my favorite Animal Collective LP. What's yours?

This is my favorite Animal Collective LP. What's yours?

Here Comes the Indian, it all went downhill quite rapidly from there

I think that's a fair viewpoint, they did change sonically quite a bit after HCTI

STGSTV my dude
also prospect hummer if that counts

here comes the indian > feels > prospect hummer > everything else

STGSTV is in my top three, along with CHz and SJ.

this is the only answer
definitely the best thing AnCo have or will ever make as a group

I think that's a lil unfair

HCTI then sung tongs, then feels. Then its centipede hz because I fucking love this album too OP

Sung tongs > Feels > all other lps

Best ep is prospect hummer though, love me some Vashti Bunyan

Reminder: STGSTV is not AnCo

Fall Be Kind is the only thing by them that I can still enjoy.

nice try

Nice pea brain

If Spirit They've Gone, Spirit They've Vanished isn't AnCo then neither is Sung Tongs

MPP or Sung Tongs

Fall Be Kind is better than both though

I mean we can at least agree they've peaked, even if you don't think it's their best they're never gonna make an album as good as MPP again.

I do agree they've peaked
after CHz

...

Hollinndagain currently. It switches around often.

iktf

current favorite is CHz, end of last year I had People and Water Curses on repeat

...

If it's not one of the following you are a silly goose
>MPP
>ST
>SJ
>Feels
>STGSTV

I posted the wrong one. Old one I rushed and forgot Campfire Songs. Also The Painters EP wasn't out yet.

I like every single thing they put out. It's all good in its own way.

I love it all

I've been listening to Painting With the most the last week tho. Makes me so happy!!

Not my point at all

Putting out 4 of the best albums ever made in a row is going downhill?

>not Keep ep

how is it not? they're both panda and avey. if they consider it anco, why can't you?

Avey literally wrote STGSTV though. It wasn't a collaboration at that point. It was an Avey Tare solo album which he asked Panda to play drums over and Josh helped record.

>implying the percussion doesn't make the record

Why don't people like Centipede Hz?

I mean I'm not a huge fan of it but it sounds a lot like their Feels/Strawberry Jam/MPP material just with cleaner production. Is it really just because of the >7.4?

haven't listened to all EPs or Hollinndagain/ODDSAC yet

It's some of their best but the production is so monotone. As in, it feels like the entire album stays on this aggressive vibe, the songs never take a breather. It makes it harder to listen through in my opinion.

Ah alright. so by that logic, why not say every radiohead project is a solo Thom album with a backing band?

or that "Nah man, The Velvet Underground & Nico is just a lou reed solo album with John cale, Maureen, Nico, and Morrison in the background playing instruments"

avey wrote the album, but does that make it a solo album? i dont understand

Not really analogous user, all the rest of their albums are collaborations and the group is actually together, albeit missing a member.
It's not really a argument worthy to make I don't think, and it's splitting hairs since most of us enjoy anco and anco related projects as a whole, but STGSTV IS a solo album by Avey with drums from Panda.

no I was calling myself a pleb

acceptable (barely)
Sad!

CHz was their peak and Painting With is very close

So I don't get it, people actually like Here Comes the Indian? It's nothing but random noises, spastic banging on drums, and autistic screaming

I like it, but the fact that there is zero comprehensive singing, and its just mostly screaming or chanting keeps me from forming a connection to the music

Centipede Hz is pretty amazing desu

Recommend listening to it on Vinyl. Better mixing, and more room to breathe for all the various effects and sounds

Strawberry Jam or Centipede Hz. Both have a way of just making me smile uncontrollably. Everything they've released is good imo tho. I'd say painting with is def the worst but I really like the Painters EP.

you and I have the right idea, but that dude baited you into acknowledging some WHACK fucking distinction that he's gonna unload on us all like an assault-rifle on an unexpected crowd. too late now.

>literally
panda wrote the drums

ST is right after and better

pic related btw for OP

no panda did the performing, the writing was all by Avey

Avey dictated how he wanted the drumming

I mean, I'm sure Panda contributed to how they ended up sounding in the end, but Avey laid the groundwork

They're hardly random sounds, listen to the ambient tracks closer, there's structure too them, and 4 out of the 7 tracks are pop structured.

Just because they scream and use unique guitars sounds and synths doesn't mean it's just nonsense

Here Comes the Indian seems to be overrated here. I still think it's a fantastic album, but I'd probably put STGSTV, MPP, Sung Tongs, Feels, and Strawberry Jam over it. They all just feel more complete.

Feels is obv the best AnCo album.

not when it has filler like daffy duck and flesh canoe
