It's addictive because it's consistently intriguing while also being surprisingly relatable.
This album has no right being this good.

This is the highlight of the album.
hueh heh, well fuck
I'm also in a Swans phase OP. Its because of how brutally honest it is. Swans never sounds edgy even though they should, but Gira is just too genuine in everything he does.
Also, the way they play gives the music an almost tangible feeling to it I haven't come across before. Lots of music makes me feel but listening to Swans will often give me a physical feeling, more than just your simple chills. It's like nausea or sometimes joy but it comes just from the sounds they're making and nothing else.
You should also read his book the consumer
Soundtracks has the greatest use of samples and field recordings ever.
For anyone who didn't know, most of them came from Jarboe's father's collection of FBI interview and evidence tapes that she and Michael spent a shit load of time going through. When they were done they threw everything away so we'll never know what they are or who's speaking except for the two interviews with their parents
Top post.
And I thought I was the only one who sometimes felt physically sick while listening to Swans (specifically they're live albums). Makes you wonder if it's true people actually threw up at some of their early shows (although Gira denies it).

>do you love me at all, Michael?
>no.
Nah if I'm not in the right mood for it stuff like Filth will kind of hit me in the gut with that feeling, I think it's the way they play the drums idk. I could see people throwing up at their shows, although it was probably more like the music pushed them over the edge from being drunk in a disgusting smoke filled room in the bowery
