It's addictive because it's consistently intriguing while also being surprisingly relatable.

This album has no right being this good.

This is the highlight of the album.

hueh heh, well fuck

I'm also in a Swans phase OP. Its because of how brutally honest it is. Swans never sounds edgy even though they should, but Gira is just too genuine in everything he does.

Also, the way they play gives the music an almost tangible feeling to it I haven't come across before. Lots of music makes me feel but listening to Swans will often give me a physical feeling, more than just your simple chills. It's like nausea or sometimes joy but it comes just from the sounds they're making and nothing else.

You should also read his book the consumer

Soundtracks has the greatest use of samples and field recordings ever.

For anyone who didn't know, most of them came from Jarboe's father's collection of FBI interview and evidence tapes that she and Michael spent a shit load of time going through. When they were done they threw everything away so we'll never know what they are or who's speaking except for the two interviews with their parents

Top post.

And I thought I was the only one who sometimes felt physically sick while listening to Swans (specifically they're live albums). Makes you wonder if it's true people actually threw up at some of their early shows (although Gira denies it).

>CONTROLÉ+F
>no nicolas jaar

POST 10/10 SWANS MOMENTS

>do you love me at all, Michael?
>no.

Nah if I'm not in the right mood for it stuff like Filth will kind of hit me in the gut with that feeling, I think it's the way they play the drums idk. I could see people throwing up at their shows, although it was probably more like the music pushed them over the edge from being drunk in a disgusting smoke filled room in the bowery

Fucking hell that's an intense song
>Fuck you, you don't make shit! You do not make any money!
>Micheal what does that have to do with you drink too much?
>Nothing fuck you it's your problem

Found a cool video the other day of an interview with Jarboe about the early days of Swans and the conditions they lived in. I've never seen a group of people so dedicated, to keep going despite almost no positive feedback and no money

In part 2 she talks about how much it destroyed her to not be included in the reincarnated group, heavy shit

>It's so easy to laugh
>It's so easy to hate
>It takes strength To Be Kind
>Over and over
Hmmm, I swear I've heard this before.

FLEX YOUR MUSCLES

Did that kickstarter for the documentary get funded? I'm absolutely fascinated by Swans and Gira but theres very little material about their early days and as far as I can tell Gira has never been interviewed extensively about his time in Israel which is something I'd love to know more about. I think he must have had a singular experience amidst all the LSD and weirdness of his life that he feeds off of in order to do what he does. He talks in one interview about watching a man get murdered in prison, I think it may have been a very formative event for him. Thats what his solo song Eden Prison is about

Yes. It got 10,000 over it's goal actually.

If you go to the subreddit for Swans, it has a link to its page. They added a 6 minute trailer.

>NOW PEOPLE GET READY

I mean maybe you already knew about it but holy shit it blew my mind to see them on there

God damnit jew Chan my picture

>playing Rome 2: Total War

>capturing some disgusting literal pleb city with my superior legions
>title track comes on
>legionairres running through city gates
>loud instrumental part starts
>tfw
>pop a genuine chub

Thanks, this looks exciting. Early Swans is so intriguing

This interview is so awkward.

And Gira is unintentionally intimidating.

oddly familiar

the entirety of miracle of love

AND BLOW YOU BRAINS AAAHHHHOOOUUUUTAAAAHHHHHAAAAHHHHAAAAHHHHOUUUUUUT

>swans never sound edgy
>hasn't listened to Filth

I was referring specifically to Filth

>Filth
>edgy

>Rome 2
Get on that Europa Barbarorum boio

>not cossacks
>not she loves us

you disgust me

If I wanted entry level indie, I'd listen to your playlists.

AYOOOOOOO

Fuck, I was not ready for that "New Mind" music video. Poor, poor Gira, what have they forced him into...

>That fucking crouch dance with the axe

MTV GET OFF THE AIR!

NOW!

...

I mean, I just don't know what to say. I'm very glad to be here with you tonight.
I'll be able to talk to you about some things...
That I know a great deal about.

Everyone knows that you are fucked up, and everyone knows that I am fucked up.
But, does everyone know that you are more fucked up than me?
Well, I know that, and you know that. But our purpose is to tell everyone that.

Take for instance the time you went to the bathroom, to take a shower.
You had soap, you had a towel, shampoo, washcloth, a brush
Everything was set
But you had to call me to come turn on the water for you
You didn't know where or how.

That is one instance of how fucked up you are.

A second instance of how fucked up you are:
You was going to cook you some breakfast. Well you went in there and you put some toast in the toaster, put a skillet on the stove, some grease in it.
You got you some eggs out, some bacon, poured you some orange juice and made you some coffee, got some jelly and some butter, fried eggs, salt pepper, got the bacon on the grill...
Everything was fine -- except for one thing
You had to call me in there... to show you how to use a fork.

Now a third instance, the way you're fucked up:
You got dressed, ready to go to school
Everything was fine. Went outside, got in your car, key in the ignition.
Except for one thing...
You had to call me to come show you...

the girl talking at the end of "her"

I have been obsessed with that track.

The bells at the end always get me

>you put some toast in the toaster
what did he mean by this?

yeah this is a really great interview. her minimalistic lifestyle was really inspiring to me too. just having what you need.

Agreed. I have a lot of respect for Jarboe especially after watching that. Living in those conditions and not even drinking is really impressive. Amazing dedication.

Soundtracks for the Blind is great. Listened to Filth for the first time a short while ago and didn't like it much at all though.

Trying out The Seer right now and it's pretty nice.

...

HOLY SHIT

How have I never caught that before

Soundtracks confirmed 4.5/10
GARBAGE

Lol Filth is a 10

Eh I don't think so. Not a fan of no wave.

Wait until something emotionally distressing happens to you, then put it on.

Will do, thanks for the insight friendo.

Or he could put on one of their better productions that could suit any situation better.

Someday I will kill myself to this album.

Meeting Gira was neat
I was also really short so getting to meet him was kind of tough but I noticed some people practically worshiping him I just thanked him and shook his hand and got Glowing Man signed
I also find putting Swans on is great while playing through a mundane game or at least something in the game that isn't so demanding.
I know most of the time Swans has become a meme but at the same time I really love the fact I discovered them and saw them live at least before Swans is just gone forever.
Thanks Sup Forums you're not all bad.
