i have the space and im on soulseek and i frequently see flac albums but i just pick the mp3 ones because i simply dont have the equipment to hear it, neither my headphones or my 2.1 speakers combined with my integrated pc soundboard are good enough for high frequencies, either that or i just cant hear them

FLAC is pretty good, it doesn’t take up that much space honestly and you can always convert to your own lossy format of choice (I convert to Vorbis for my shitty Sandisk,)

FLAC is far better than AAC / MP3. It could be distinguished easily by just listening to it.

as something that will give you superior sound quality to lossy formats with a high enough bitrate? yes.

AAC : 256 kpbs
MP3 : 320 kpbs (but still AAC's decoder is written by APPLE, so it's superior)
But you still need to have original lossless audio(CD, Vinyl or Bandcamp).
