Dio made some pretty unfortunate later career choices, not only participating in that thing, but the Aerosmith tribute album, which was basically a bunch of dadrockers all doing Aerosmith covers on one CD, and for some reason Dio did Dream On.
This was considering he didn't particularly like Aerosmith to begin with (nor did they like him) and also Dream On didn't really "fit" him (Kings and Queens would have been more up his alley).

Two reasons.
1. If that was an Aerosmith tribute album, it was naturally only going to have their big hits/concert staples on it. Kings and Queens was from their drug addict period and I don't think it's ever been played live much and probably only hardcore fans know about it.
2. Most likely, Dio's wife pushed him to do it (she was also responsible for him doing chick-friendly bilge like Hungry For Heaven)
