Now that the memesquad has declared their hate for Independence Day, how many of you are going to pretend you also secretly hated it all along?

I liked it when I was 12 and hated it when I saw it again a couple months ago. It's not a movie an adult with self respect could like.

Its a fun movie but not a good movie

Fuck that shit, I love that movie. One of the most criminally underrated scores of all time.

I always thought it was retarded, so whoop de fucking doo

What the fuck is it with this RedLetterMedia shit?

You know that it's only because of people like you that we even know what RLM thinks, right?

Every other word coming out of Mike's mouth these days is "schlock."

Yet he hates this schlocky movie. Not enough superheroes for him?

Watched it for the first time in 10 years earlier today before going to see ID2

Liked it then, still like it now

YOU'D ALL BE DEAD IF IT WASN'T FOR MY DAVID

I watched that one guy review the Star Wars prequels and I agreed with a lot of things. Then I checked out one other video by RLM and they just come off as pretentious assholes.

I watched about five minutes of OP's video and clicked it off because it's just them sitting there chuckling to themselves "this movie is STUPID, made for idiots heh heh".

Like a lot of Will Smith movies, its an enjoyable but insanely stupid movie.

>only good scene

I always thought it was dumb but fun. The whole "uploading a virus using a mac" thing was mentally retarded, and the whole sublot of the drunk old abductee pilot flying his plane up the ship and yelling about cornholes was also stupid. And the dog scene. Yeah, what was that term they coined? The "idiots cheer" moments.. they were right on the money with that.
But overall it's still a pretty fun flick.

They are our friends. They can be your friends too if you want them to be. Just pop up a chair and pretend to review movies with them.

why do you care

Mike likes Jurassic World, which is just as dumb as this movie, and in some ways is even dumber.

Jay always talks about how he likes practical effects and the use of miniatures, which this movies has out the ass.

I don't take their opinions on movies too seriously.

I like this movie. It's real neat.

...

...

The novelization says that they based our computers off of the crashed ship. That's why it worked.

Why didn't the movie mention it? Meh.

nice ctrl v

Why is Sup Forums so obsessed with these hacks?

>Not liking independence day
>Not liking the prequels
>Liking Jurassic world

Sounds like their opinions are objectively shit

Jim Norton's dissection of it killed the movie for me years ago

if you liked id4 and the prequels it's your opinion that's objectively shit

Even though I want Jay to impregnate me I'll always like this movie. Even as a kid I knew it wasn't the best piece of work, but it was just fun. It's the only acceptable "turn off your brain and just enjoy it" movie because it's what kicked off the over saturated dumb popcorn movies we have had.

Jay plz b mine, bb.

this. by the end of the review he basically says the reason why some schlock is acceptable and why other schlock isn't is entirely subjective, but he doesn't go any deeper than that. it just makes their dislike for id4 seem arbitrary.

The Giant Bomb of Sup Forums

trueee the score is probably my favourite part of the movie

I thought it was fun enough.
But also thought it was a shitty movie. It's a high budget B movie, really.

>It's the only acceptable "turn off your brain and just enjoy it" movie because it's what kicked off the over saturated dumb popcorn movies we have had.

It's the only acceptable one because it spawned endless shitty movies?
Hint: if the copies are shit so is the original

are you guys literally watching videos of fat losers watching videos? and paying these people to watch?

I liked it as a kid.
Haven't watched it ever since nor care.

youtube.com/watch?v=oCZevpfEK5k

Patrice already covered it

This. Only rational answer.

Same,

viral marketing

Everything except the aliens was crap though.

My favourite scenes where we see the alien motherfuckers.

>Release me How is he alive in resurgence?

>>Not liking the prequels

That's a good thing faggot

>Jay always talks about how he likes practical effects and the use of miniatures, which this movies has out the ass.
So did Star Wars (yes, the Prequels actually had even more miniatures than the OT, go figure).

They are hacks, just like all "le angry guy critic" Internet "celebrities".

Honestly the Red Letter Media guys are funny as hell and have some valid points on stuff.
But after watching a ton of their videos, I truly question their full understanding of cinema as a whole.

I loved it as a kid. I can't watch it as an adult. It's kinda like Space Jam.

RedditLetterMedia hacks FUCK OFF.

FUCK OFF, tasteless pleb shills. Go get some upvotes on Reddit, I am sure some variation of "Mike so funny" will work.

reddit is the prequel lover hive mind

go back to Sup Forumsddit you fucking nigger vermin

I'll always love Independence Day for its great practical effects and all star casting (Smith, Goldblum, Pullman, etc)

But Nostalgia Critic already said he hated it like 5 years ago or more so everyone already does hate.

>But Nostalgia Critic already said he hated it like 5 years ago

He also hated Last Action Hero despite several people telling him it was a parody/deconstruction of action movies

Are you implying Doug Walker can be wrong?

such anger, almost like mike put his big polack dick in your gf?

God you can see all the pain behind the laughter.

Can we all stop pretending that we don't automatically align ourselves AGAINST whatever Redlettermedia say?

Hebe kikeburger

RedditLetterMedia are shit but so is Independence Day.

>giving a fuck what these unfunny sellouts have to say aboot anything

Not even once.

Their review didn't even seem to hate the movie, they praised a lot of it and defended it.

They just seem to have a problem that it started a trend towards every movie being huge special effects blockbusters.

The ONLY thing I hated with this movie, and still do, is the "muh independence day" speech. I cringed in the theatre and still do every time I watch the movie.

the film was always watchable but it was also always retarded as shit

>WE WILL NOT GO QUIETLY INTO THE NIGHT

>WE WILL NOT SURRENDER WITHOUT A FIGHT

up ya bum

I'll always celebrate this movie

dumb fucking fun is the best

U S A, U S A, U S A, U S A
'murrica saves the day. AGAIN
Realy tiresome.

Sup Forums friend simulator

reddit letter memeia

>they praised a lot of it and defended it.
You watched the wrong review. The only part they "praised" were the first scenes with Will Smith.

reddit lamer memia amirite

The YouTube clip of that was what first got me into O&A.

My favorite part is how they do these Jewish stereotype impressions but when they play a clip of the movie Judd Hirsch is EVEN WORSE than them. I fucking lost it at that point.

It's just a rehash of Stargate.

>Liked it then, still like it now
Kill yourself please.

>The novelization says that they based our computers off of the crashed ship. That's why it worked.
>Why didn't the movie mention it? Meh.
That's stupid and implausible.

Independence Day has been considered shit since 1996.

Jim Norton was never funny

mike doesn't like escape from new york so I don't know if I can actually take him seriously anymore

I don't think anyone ever actually liked this movie. It was just a summer flick with some good eye candy like Speed Racer. Then add in all the boomer adults who took their kids and their kids' friends to see it because muh patriotism.
At least Mars Attacks played up the humor aspect..I want a sequel to that instead.

Escape is boring as fuck. Snake does absolutely nothing the entire film. The only good thing about it is the score. All Carpenter movies suck except The Thing, ItMoM, and certain parts of They Live.

I still like the first half.

I think it has a decent suspenseful build-up.

>I just repeat whatever my surrogate Internet friends tell me

I never understand why people do this

Why couldn't I consider this movie shit, but still love it?

He also liked Jurassic World so it's safe to ignore his opinion.

its a stupid popcorn movie. its just some nice explosions and dumb speeches.

armageddon is good too.

for those who liked id4, what do you think of emmerich's other flicks? Id4 seems by far the worst of them to me, even godzilla 98 was better

I grew up on Carpenter movies and have hated NY for literally decades before they reviewed it. I always give Carpenter a chance because he always has moments of brilliance even in his worst films, but I'm always disappointed more than impressed every single time.

You must have the memory of a goldfish. People have been bashing it since release just like Episode 1.

ID4 is terrific

I like how Jay literally brought up every point Patrice raised on Opie and Anthony

Fucking hack

>punched out his outfit

>I'm well aware of their maneuvering capabilities

Nigga, I'm aware of how DC-10s move...

What they should have said is that ID4 is an incredibly dated movie, in terms of storytelling, plot, visuals, and pretty much everything else. It was made 20 years ago and the mid 90s wereone of the worst periods for movies, despite what the nostalgiababbies here might say.

Why are you upset, RLM shill?

Watched in the theater when i was 12

Never really liked or hated it. Thought MIB did the whole alien thing better

NY>LA

It's the same composer, there are obviously going to be similarities. Stargate is another excellent score.

I never got why my dad liked it that much when I was a kid. I have nothing but apathy for the movie. It was on TV a couple months ago when I was visiting family and I couldn't believe how bad it was. I honestly forgot entirely about the President's wife and Will Smith's wife subplot. And I joked pretty heavily with my family about the scene where everyone in the world is like, "Those bloody Americans have figured it out! We'll wait for their go ahead!"

It was a great movie when it came out.

I still love the movie. I rewatched it a couple weeks ago and still laughed when Will Smith punch the alien and said "Welcome to earth." The whole movie is an enjoyable America-first cheese fest.

Mike and Jay even admitted in the review that there's some schlock that's just like ID that they like and it's hard to describe why they dislike this one. Of course, they say they're right but I think I'm right when I say that Jurassic World sucks but Mike liked it (inexplicably).

I still thought their ID review was hilarious. That's the whole reason i watch them.

It really does demonstrate the difference between a comic genius (Patrice) and a talentless surrogate friend for autists.

Me.

THIS TITLE MAKES NO SENSE
Independence Day isn't 4
It's July 4th
Or 7/4
The number 4 alone has never meant Independence Day. And even if it did, ID4 is still retarded

are you guys literally watching videos of fat losers watching videos? and paying these people to watch?

as a kid i liked it quite a lot. then I saw it again few years ago and wish i didn't. now it was meh at best

It's so dense.
