Trying to get into Bowie, but I'm a pleb & have only ever listened to Ziggy Stardust. What now?

I like Station to Station a lot.
Did you like Ziggy?
Bowie is shit anyways
Heathen
Station to station
Low
Aladdin sane
Young americans
Blackstar
My favorite has always been Scary Monsters and Super Creeps. The Man Who Sold the World was pretty good too
This, listen to some Best Of album and be done with it.
...
Yeah I did quite a bit. I was always familiar with Bowie, because classic rock stations like to play the shit out of Changes, Starman, & Fame. But I'll check out Station to Station. Thank you user.
Thank you user. I've got Scary Monsters queued up.
Young Americans is such an underrated album.
If you want to get into his more experimental stuff, try Low. Only Bowie album I've listened to all the way through, but it's pretty good.
This. You have David Sandborn and Luther Vandross as well.
Yeah just listen to Station To Station. The title track is a thing of genius.
Hunky Dory and Diamond Dogs are also good beginner level Bowie.
I would start with Heroes first in the experimental route, it's much more accessible
not trying to put you down or anything, but i never understood why people cannot or do not start at the beginning. whenever i'm interested in a writer, director, musician, etc, i always start with their early output and go on from there. these days, nearly all films and tunes are available online. do a little research, see what you dig, and go on from there. expect amazing discoveries along the way. outsourcing what you should listen to takes away from the joy of discovery, mate.
>space oddity
>man who sold the world
His two best albums DESU.
You should listen to the Laughing Gnome on repeat for the next 48 hours.
Start with Space Oddity and stop when you get to the end
Not like you have anything better to do
>More glam
What the hell are you talking about Space Oddity barely sounds like glam
One of Bowie's biggest selling points is his genre experimentation. Here's a list of his albums that you haven't listened to and the genre that best fits them, go with whichever genre appeals to you the most in the list.
Baroque/Novelty - Self Titled
Psychedelic/Folk - Space Oddity
Metal/Hard Rock - The Man Who Sold the World
String Heavy Glam - Hunky Dory
Art Rock & Jazz - Aladdin Sane
Glam Funk(?) - Diamond Dogs
Soul - Young Americans
Funk - Station to Station
Ambient/Experimental - Low
Alt-Rock - Heroes
World - Lodger
New-Wave - Scary Monsters
Pop - Let's Dance
Reggae/Pop - Tonight
Garbage - Never Let Me Down
Electronic/Hip Hop - Black Tie White Noise & Buddah of Suburbia
Industrial - Outside
Drum and Bass - Earthling
Art Rock - Heathen
Soft/Contemporary Rock - Hours and The Next Day
Jazz - The Next Day
Am I the only one who thinks this is a bad chart? Space Oddity is more folk/psychedelic, Let's Dance is barely 'plastic soul', YA should branch off to Station in some way.
This is a good suggestion. It's what I did and I greatly enjoyed it.
i take it you meant to write Blackstar as the Jazz influenced album? man, McCaslin's sax just kills me. also, major LOL at Never Let Me Down category.
>i take it you meant to write Blackstar as the Jazz influenced album?
Fuck. My bad. Yeah I meant Blackstar for that category.
