>Movie felt way too short
>So many plotholes such as how the Empire were able to build a massive Death Star carved into a planet in only 30 years when all the Empire were defeated
>Movie should have begun when Kylo was dropped off at Luke's Jedi Academy: as we get to know him more and why he joined the dark side
But of course due to JJ wanting to make an absolute copy of A New Hope: we had to begin the movie with Kylo in the mask and Stormtroopers massacring an area just like A New Hope begins
>Han Solo should not have died
>JJ should have gone with the original script idea where Luke is met earlier in the film and Rey and Luke go on adventures together as they track down ancient artifacts - this then would have let Luke come face to face with Han and eventually Leia and all 3 of the original team would have been reunited
>Rey is a Mary Sue: absolutely makes no sense with how she knows everything about the force; is able to do Jedi mind tricks without anyone teaching her... if JJ filmed a scene with her reading a book about the Jedi myths or about Han explaining to her about the force then it would have all made sense - only way for it to now make sense is if Rey is a reincarnation of Anakin which explains why all powers come easy to her
>Luke would never abandon all his friends and become a hermit (again JJ is doing this just so Episode 8 is exactly like ESB with Rey going to be trained with a Yoda like wise Jedi).
>Why the fuck does Rey need to be trained? She is a Mary Sue who knows everything? She almost beat a Sith Lord (who cares if he was injured).
>The lack of Prequel content (such as no prequel planet ever mentioned) disturbed me greatly

>The lack of Prequel content (such as no prequel planet ever mentioned) disturbed me greatly

All I needed to see

Nice pasta faggot, you must be Italian.

This "prequels are crap" meme has to die

You have to go back to Sup Forums, child.

waaa waaa why didn't they make the movie just for me waaaaa

So you decide to not even address the problems I have listed?

Yes I copy pasted it from another thread that I posted in BECAUSE I still haven't heard a rebuttel to all these problems.

There is something seriously wrong with you if you think the Force Awakens is a 10/10 movie.

This movie was great fun no doubt but it had some of the worst editing I've seen in a blockbuster - the scenes moved way too fast, no backstory explanation at all.

Which is why I state: who is the main character that we are following the story through the eyes of? It's not Rey because we know nothing about her; JJ didn't explain why she is a Mary Sue and knows everything about the force.

Just as Han would say "That's not how the force works!"

>Han Solo should not have died
well ford sure as fuck didn't want to stick around for another two movies

>triggered

im glad the force awakens is triggering all the prequel kids who grew up with them, now they finally know what its like to have something you love turned to garbage

Once again: you haven't rebutteled what I have said.

>why didn't they make the movie just for me
When did I ever say that?

I simply addressed all the main issues I have with it: such as there being no backstory at all; we know nothing about the last 30 years we missed such as how the starkiller base was formed.

At least with the prequels: we know everything with how the death star was built, how Anakin's new empire was formed.

But with TFA: it throws us right into the middle of a story - with no beginning.

This is exactly as if Peter Jackson began his LOTR trilogy by beginning halfway through Fellowship of the Ring with no explanation with why all of them are travelling together.

This is exactly what JJ has done.

>No explanation to the Mary Sue dilema
>No explanation to starkiller base forming
>No explanation how Kylo met snoke
>No explanation to how a new empire was formed when they were all destroyed

It only did so well amongst critics because of nostalgia and because it is a 10/10 action/adventure movie.

I KNOW it is a 10/10 brilliant action movie BUT a movie shouldn't just be action based.

The prequels are brilliant with its politics - the Order 66 politics being some of my favorite Star Wars content ever. Sadly JJ did not include any politics at all: not even 5 minutes worth. It cuts from scene to scene at such a fast pace.

I hear the movie was originally 30 minutes longer. JJ is an ass for cutting it down; even more of an ass for not releasing all the deleted extended scenes on blu ray.

I truly hope he does release all these deleted scenes in a future remaster box set.

And there you go again: just referring back to memes without any rebuttal.

This has to be a bait comment. I seriously have no idea how anyone can hate the prequels apart from Anakin and Padme's relationship and maybe Jar Jar.

All the podracing, new planets, Revenge of the Sith are masterpiece classes of brilliance.

Is it because the Old Trilogy was a kid's film like TFA is but the prequels are more adult i.e. they require a longer attention spam?

>bait
you realize no one who grew up with the original star wars likes the prequels dont you? is this your first day on Sup Forums?

>you realize no one who grew up with the original star wars likes the prequels dont you?
>no one
again bait

Is Sup Forums the most pathetic userbase on Sup Forums? The contrarian mental gymnastics regarding Star Wars: TFA is incredible and at the same time absolutely loathsome.

The constant denial, backtracking and moving the goalposts.

>"TFA will be shit! Fucking Jew Jew Abrams, fucking nigger main character, fucking SJWs! People won't accept this! It will be worse than the prequels and a total flop!"
>Trailer drops. Record pre-sales, screenings booked out months in advance. Hype incredibly high.
>"I-i-t'll still be a flop! Guaranteed to be shit! Phantom Menace sold well too before people realised it was shit! N-nigger character!"
>TFA releases. 5 star reviews, record opening day. People love based Johnny B's performance, and he's very well received.
>"o-ok it might not be as bad as we thought, but it's still not going to beat Jurassic World! Disney are finished!"
>Beats Jurassic World, despite being released in off-season and no Chinese release.
>"J-just wait until based RLM eviscerates it for being A New Hope ripoff in a Mr Plinkett review! You'll f-fucking see then Starfags!"
>Mike loves it. RLM approve and think it has saved the Star Wars franchise from the prequels.
>"FUCKING SHIT FILM, MARY SUE JEW SHIT. PREQUEL LOVE THREAD. WHO FUCKING LOVES ATTACK OF THE CLONES? I DO. REVENGE OF THE SITH WAS BETTER THAN ROTJ. BASED GEORGE LUCAS. WELL AT LEAST TFA WON'T BEAT AVATAR, I FUCKING SWEAR TO GOD PLEASE."

The mouthbreathing basement dwellers who strive to be contrarian have been backed into a corner really, they started so verbose. So confident that the film would be a flop, not break any records and would be panned by critics. Slowly as TFA has BTFO them on every conceivable level, they've been reduced to adopting some bizarre cult-like contrarian attitude to the prequels, proclaiming them as underrated gems, and trying to push some kind of narrative where if TFA doesn't beat Avatar, it's somehow failed, despite already being a record breaking movie and saving Star Wars.

been awhile since there's been some genuine autism in here

thanks lad

...

Time to derail this shitty thread.

please die.

>The prequels are brilliant with its politics

you don't fucking deserve a real reply.

educate yourself. this has been discussed to death.

don't reply with memes.

Are the prequels better than TFA?

I wish for you to survive user and found out how masterful the prequels secretly are :^)

truly… this is… kino……

>watching a negative review to a movie I have seen 15+ times and enjoy
yeah not going to happen

Kek

I seriously have no idea why you keep posting this.. sure the CGI palpatine office is something to laugh at but this scene is fucking decent dude.

>Decent CGI
>Jar jar being goofy but then that's his character throughout the movie so I don't see your point with that
>The CGI is decent for its time
Remember video game graphics were pic related when this movie was made.

I think Lucas did a decent job with this movie with its CGI.

I didn't enjoy it so go fuck yourself, cunt.

>only way for it to now make sense is if Rey is a reincarnation of Anakin which explains why all powers come easy to her
This would be sick 2 b honest senpai

...he may have gone too far in some places

I love that animation! All the machines and environment look great although I hate the animated stormtroopers.

No idea why people entirely make fun of this scene

Why would the tank go off course like that?
That destroyed battledroid would presumably be the gunner and the pilot/driver would be still inside perfectly safe?
In fact the tank wouldn't need a fucking driver, if they have the ability to create sentient droids they'd use that tech in the tank itself right?

I wouldn't expect a dirty Australian to enjoy it.
Go fuck some more sheep dingo boy.

lol
pupper knows best

It's the truth, but keep covering your ears and enjoy your space space if you can't handle it.

I hope you're being ironic

It's dull, lifeless, and has no humanity to it.

It takes no skill to make this, it's lazy and uninspired.

Same

which episode of the clone wars cartoon is this from?

The season premiere.

there's literally nothing wrong with this scene.
I want redditlettermedia to leave.

nice boogeyman

came here to post this

it's a fantastic scene

kill yourself anti-art pleb

>My CGI movie is way better than your CGI movie

REEEEE FUCK YOU CHIHUAHUA GIVE ME THE ANSWER I WANT

Man of Steel or better yet Man of feels

>It's dull, lifeless, and has no humanity to it.
You people keep trying too hard. Just please fuck off

You hate Lucas for CGI but praise JJ for CGI?

you must be joking, one of the most emotionally stunted and lifeless movies I've ever seen.

Don't let the fantastic score fool you.

>Don't let the fantastic score fool you.
>fantastic score
well there at least you found something good about the movie. that's the main point.

>all CGI is bad

False.

You just don't understand why it's disliked, you nostalgia is blocking you from doing so.

That scene had excitement and buildup and chase full of fantastically executed practical explosions before the nessesary CGI for the Falcon.

The Jakku dogfight was well shot and was exciting.

The Geonosis fight... just happens. and no one cares about what's going on. It's bland and boring and falls flat on its face. Not to mention it aged like milk.

Jurassic Park is an example of where a movie from 1993 STILL holds up. That's impressive.

None of the prequels hold up at all.

TFA will still look great 20 years from now aside from Maz.

Say what you will about the CGI: but this moment was so fucking emotional especially for me.

>The way the stormtroopers stop and aim at him
>The confused concerned look on his face as they have been following orders by him all this time and suddenly want to kill him
This Order 66 bit made me cry

>fantastic score

>stormtroopers
Stopped reading right there

The desert and the tanks are actually practical models. The stormtroopers and the Lucrehulk control ships are animated.

>Jurassic Park is an example of where a movie from 1993 STILL holds up.
Please stop looking at the movie with your nostalgia: the 1993 CGI hasn't aged well in Jurassic Park - but the practicals have for sure.

Now judge this JW CGI to AoTC CGI - slowly it was coming together to where it is today but it wasn't there yet hence it looks fake and cartoony.

The end result is crap, so it's fruitless.

I meant the Republic ok sorry I am crying here
;_:

I'd say Amadeus, but millenials exist.

In Armond we trust.
Stay mad faggots.

nationalreview.com/article/428730/star-wars-demystified

There are no such movies and fuck your stupid remake and your stupid opinion you retarded autist.

>None of the prequels hold up at all.
This has got to be the biggest load of bait I've read today.

>the podracing
>the opening scene of Phantom Menace
>the fucking underwater gungan place
>the gungan underwater vehicle
>Christopher Lee as Count Dooku
>Sheev
>The Darth Maul fight
>Anakin V Obi Won
>Anakin burning alive after he has lost his legs
>Order 66
You are saying that NONE of this stuff holds up and that TFA has way more memorable events?

How I wish we had a clone wars trilogy full of George Lucas and his amazing CGI.

Thanks for the WEBM.

Any LAAT action scenes are welcome. God dam was that a sexy machine when it debuted.

>The Jakku dogfight was well shot and was exciting
No, it was dog shit and you have no taste

prequel CGI is lightyears ahead of it

>the podracing
waving around your special effects budget to componsate for lack of plot. That felt like it didn't belong in the movie.
>the opening scene of Phantom Menace
Looked alright, Trade Federation puppets were godawful though.
>the fucking underwater gungan place
Yawn.
>the gungan underwater vehicle
Yawn.
>Christopher Lee as Count Dooku
what a fucking waste of a good actor on such a horrible character and script.
>Sheev
Fantastic, but his plan in episode 3 made no fucking logical sense even more so than Loki in The Avengers and the dude from Skyfall. Plan consisted of too many uncertainties and assumptions.
>The Darth Maul fight
no emotion. people hitting each other with sticks intercutted with hershlag shooting people we don't care about, a space battle with a 10-year-old who we hate, and cartoon rabbit fighting in a boring and downright stupid battle
>Anakin V Obi Won
Loved every second of it. Best part of the prequels.
>Anakin burning alive after he has lost his legs
Looked fantastic.
>Order 66
More CGI but the Score was incredible and actually caused some emotion. Can't complain.

When did the Millennium Falcon get upgraded plot armor?

Can we bring the conversation back to these Force Awaken problems?

Once again: the reason that all of you love it is because it is exactly like A New Hope - and by that I don't mean it has no originality i.e. Finn etc. What I mean is that the movie has the exact same plot points.

>Begin the episode in the middle of a warzone
>Bad guy already exists with no explanation as to how he got there
I would have preferred like I said; to see JJ begin the story with Kylo at Luke's temple: for us to get to know who Kylo is and when Snoke began to possess him.

But of course: you OT lovers just cannot grasp the importance of character development and character arcs.

This is the whole reason why Lucas wanted to show Anakin as innocent before he journeyed to the dark side: to show that he was just like you and me (mediocre acting aside).

The prequels are based on Shakespearian work: take Macbeth.

We get to know Macbeth way before he journeys to the dark side due to those witches that command him to kill - just like Palpatine commanded Anakin to kill.

We had the OT begin with not knowing who Vader was BUT Lucas went back and fixed that and I appreciate the prequel story that we got.

>We got to know who Obi Won was
>We got to know how the Clone Wars began
So when we go back to watch the OT, we can relate to the movie a lot more and understand the world more.

Now with TFA: We have absolutely no understanding of this world; why suddenly a new army came out of nowhere, why a massive starkiller base carved into a planet was made.

NO EXPLANATION AT ALL!

Also: fucking JJ for deciding to destroy the starkiller base.

Also: fucking JJ for making it so easy to be destroyed: so in 30 years time, the Empire still haven't designed a safe base to protect themselves from rebels?

Also: fucking JJ for making Captian Phasma so weak as to decide to yield.

I thought the Empire were based on Nazis? Does anyone know how important Hitler was to the Nazis? No Nazi would yield.

>Nostalgia

Not the same user, but I've ended up not getting griped by the OT in chldhood (war more of a Jurassic Park kid), neither did I see eps I and II when they came out, and only witnessed the whole of saga in my teenage years.

I don't get your gripe with the design of the prequels. Almost every scene was created using practical effects, either through sets or miniatures. Even fucking Kamino was built by Adam Savage as a series of models. All of these were enhanced on the computer, to give it more of a futuristic look, but in the essence is the cooperation between practical models and CGI (just like in Jurassic Park, by the way).

Liking or not liking specific scenes is subjective. I did not like the Jakku dogfight (except for the trench run in the Executor). In fact, I did not like any of the fights because, in my opinion, Abrams can't direct them.

Look at every big starship battle in Star Wars. Ep III and Ep VI are the best examples. There huge shots of the battlefield that show off the ships from all sights, POVs of individual fighters and fighter wings, the harmony of sound, music and action. TFA barely gives us a clear shot of the Star Destroyer, and the final battle doesn't even feature any rebel ships, because it's easier to animate another X-Wing trench run than do something as epic Battle of Coruscant.

I don't want to insult those who liked TFA, but NONE of JJ's cinematography made me feel like he understands Star Wars more than being able to ape some pottery shots from ANH and ESB. Look at how Vader is introduced every time in ESB: there's an establishing shot of the Executor and the fleet, theme music playing, only THEN do we get to the Vader scene (same with ANH's Death Star Moff scenes). Only at moments of high tension (like the Death Star battle) are there direct cuts from one scene to the other. Abrams just cuts to Kylo Ren scenes whenever he feels like, isntead of using them to establish the Empire, Imperial ships and entourage.

They were officially declared as stormtroopers by Palpatine the very same day.

starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Declaration_of_a_New_Order

Thanks for the webm.

This scene still looks heaps good since I saw it back in the day. Only thing that looks not so good is the CGI grass BUT otherwise really great special effects.

And no I am not joking.

You sir are just pretending the prequels have the most horrid CGI and effects ever made due to your bias of hatred towards it.

Pic related looks fucking fantastic for 1999!

BASED ARMOND NEVER DISAPPOINTS

>This has got to be the biggest load of bait I've read today.
Then don't take it.

It was a shit film though, with one of the worst Mary Sues imaginable. If this was a fanfic story it wouldn't have passed muster, but slap a Star Wars logo on it and replace Lucas and somehow it's a masterpiece.

>Almost every scene was created using practical effects,
same as the Thing (2011) but Lucas decided to CGI 95% of it sadly

You misunderstand Star Wars, the prequels poisoned your mind.

Star Wars is NOT about backstory and explanations, it's about the adventure at hand.

>how the Empire were able to build a massive Death Star carved into a planet in only 30 years when all the Empire were defeated

I'm sure it's easier when you have droids working 24/7

...

>It was a shit film though
As a prequel fan: something about TFA really makes me respect it because it feels like they tried to do something but just failed so badly.

>cutting 30 minutes out of the movie
>beginning the movie right in the middle of the new war without any explanation
>the horrid pace and editing
this is what made the movie really weak but all in all it is a fun watch. Nowhere near as intelligent or memorable as the prequel's scenes but still decent.

you're in the minority.

JJ knows filmmaking, miles better than Lucas.

Mission Impossible 3, Star Trek 09, and TFA are fantastic action films that blow the prequels out of the water. It's not even close.

You are a Star Wars fan, not a fan of cinema and filmmaking.

>failed

ok buddy. have fun in your little world you've made for yourself.

Most of what is thought to be "horrid CGI" in Prequels are actually practical effects masked to look futuristic. Google image for "Prequels Practical Effects" and stay in awe.

I'd say it is Lucas's own fault for glossing over the practical effects part in the documentaries (supposedly, TPM alone had more than the entire OT combined) and gushing for the new computer graphics capabilities instead. As a result, the work of many (like Mythbusters' Adam Savage) was glossed over and the "bad CGI" argument was given credibility by the creator himself.

In comparison, while Lucas CGI'd his practical effects too much in hopes of making them look futuristic, we have JJ leaving the practical effects too damn obviously fake. I'm talking about Jaqqu, specifically that creature's big ass and THAT FUCKING TUCAN, who gets a whole close up for the viewer to see just how fake and cheap the toy model is.

>i cant formulate my own opinions and link to rotten tomatoes reviews

KYS

Would she like me if we ever met?

>the prequels poisoned your mind because they let us get to know more of the characters and the background world
How much pleb are you?

The prequels are brilliant story pieces. If you don't like it then don't watch them but I as well as thousands really appreciate them.

You are like one of those Twin Peaks fans who hate Fire Walk With Me because we got to know more about Bob and the supernatural world. But if a director and creator loves his creation so much that he wants to make prequel stories: why is that such a problem?

Ah fuck you, pupper...

>You misunderstand Star Wars
No, you do. The creator knows that Star Wars is about Legacy and Myth. The entire story of the Empire is a historical allegory to the Roman Republic/Empire. Lucas said, times and again, and adventure at hand is not what he wanted to show.

And it was like this from the very start, from Vader's officers discussing the Senate, to Tarkin and Moff briefing us on the government's rule over galaxy. The political was always intended as an integral part of Star Wars, it's too bad you (and JJ Abrams) noticed only the external "adventure ho" part.
