Remember to use clyp.it to post your tracks/WIP: posting a clyp.it is just providing sound for a question, posting a Soundcloud link is making self-advertisement and the thread doesn't need that.
They do indeed satan. They're mostly shit because we get a lot of underage b8 but when it's good, it's great
Elijah Long
Hey 21P knock-off band user! How did your gig go? Post pic of the line of gurlz still waiting to be smashed now that the gig is over!
Eli Robinson
pretty good flip, i think the bass has a little too much compression unless that's the sound u were going for
Chase Lee
You're probably right. I did it just now so I should probably go back and mix it. I was drawing inspiration from this which has some really heavy bass, could be why. youtube.com/watch?v=AEzm52RppQY
Track was made with MS20, Virus Access, and drums in DAW.
Any mixing or arrangement critiques?
Brandon Perry
>manic compressor

feel bad for pirating this one :^)

Alexander Jackson
>clyp.it/cgboihjl Like it until the drop. Make the bass a drone. The drums are already keeping the rythm going
Sebastian Cook
Y'know, I have a few issues with this as a /prod/istic fuck, but overall it's solid and the average normie would probably like it. My only question is what part(s) did you use the MS-20 for?
Nicholas Ortiz
Thank you, I'll do another recording and see how that sounds.
I used the MS20 for the bass you hear at the start and the second bass near the end. I usually only use the MS20 for bass, leads, and various blips.
Jackson Nguyen
Best drum kits, VSTs, or other sound packs you guys know of? Ill start >Lo-fi: Beat Butcha(Pure Protien) or Snare Jordan >Trap: LD, Cardiak, or Young Chop >Experimental: Clams Casino, NOT YOUR TYPICAL SNARES(Redditor made), or Moonpaw >Chill: Alchemist v3 or Neptunes808s: Lex Luger, Kontakt(808 warfare), or Metro Boomin >VSTs for bass: Massive or Kontakt >Plugins: Fab Filter(Essential), or plugin alliance(Less useful but I still use it sometimes)
Also how to set up the compressor to give that bass some punch? It has no attack, its just a mass, i can't fucking change it.
Colton Gonzalez
The lead and that middy thing sound dissonant to eachother in a bad way
Nicholas Garcia
Is ryzen good for us?
Charles Morgan
Is Cubase's native Halion ONE good enough for virtual instruments sounds?
Or will it sound like cheap midi or karaoke?
If not what is a good vst that does multiple instruments and synths with realistic quality? Dont want to download one dedicated VST for each instrument. Or better said, 5 different ones.
Nathaniel Brown
>yung chop thanks for posting this >metro boomin >Neptunes if you could link these senpai that'd be great.
Luis Parker
I like it, bass is good. If there are some nice highs in that sample I would bring them out a bit
At 25 seconds it gets really good, I like it. If you want to keep people listening I would either have the intro less dissonant or introduce that high synth that comes in at 0:25. Also the when the drums are introduced half way through it's underwhelming - the overall volume just stays the same. A kick drum with more bass might help.
Good mix in general although sounds panned very far right. Prior to the keys at 0:30 it's unbalanced because everything on the left is much quieter than the right - I would automate the panning so that the stereo image is more consistently balanced. When the keys do come in it sounds good.
Matthew Flores
I'm attempting to do some trap stuff Is this drum loop any good?
I like it overall. Only thing that stood out was the levels dip pretty aggressively whenever your kick hits and some of the dissonance in the second part is a bit much. Second half is great besides that horn sound at 3:08 and 3:22. Doesn't quite fit in my opinion.
-----
Unfortunately I've gotta put my silly eurobeat thing on hold for a bit while I produce and mix a slam EP for a band... sigh.
Also, what elements in the second half did you think got too dissonant? the sub/808?
Charles Anderson
>This actually sounds decent. Little too glossy/cheesy for me, but one of the better eurobeats I've listened too. Thanks, I'm trying to be pretty self-aware, it's very tongue in cheek.
At the moment I'm debating transposing it down a half step, relaxing the brass a bit, and using more guitars rather than pads. Hopefully that'll open up some breathing room for vocals.
>Also, what elements in the second half did you think got too dissonant? the sub/808? Just some of the lead lines in that 1:15-1:30 or so area had some erk moments. Could be intentionally, but I think some different dissonant chords might work better.
John Wood
nice user! I didn't realize that had Midi to CV/Gate. Did you record each part into your DAW separately, or are there enough osc to have that all happening at once?
Can someone recommend a good budget microphone for me? My current mic sounds like actual shit and i don't know anything about mics.
Daniel Ortiz
what do you want to record with it? do you have an audio interface already? if not factor that in as well. what's your budget?
Camden Johnson
Vocals Yes and i think it should be pretty good too Preferably under 50-60$
Jacob Morales
anything at the $80-100 range should be a decent starter mic
Hunter Barnes
>under 50-60$ highly doubt you'll find something decent for that much
Grayson Morales
for $50 your best bet probably is the bm800 which is a chink piece of shit with obviously for that price hit and miss nonexistent quality control but if you get a working one it sounds pretty damn good, especially for vocals
I'd advise you to save up like 2-3x the budget and get a 'proper' mic like a (used) rode nt1a or an audio technica at2035 so you don't need to worry about your mic shitting the bed after a couple of months, especially if you're taking this whole recording thing a little more serious
Xavier Morales
Thanks. I did a second take that is slightly longer here if you're interested. clyp.it/n1hqmlnp
I do of soundscape kind of stuff for fun. Here's another I did with the MS-20. This one is a lot more aggressive, clyp.it/akc4soki
Matthew Miller
Alright think i'll just save up some more money. Thanks for the help tho
most daws still have a hard time utilizing multiple cores/threads properly, especially vst is apparently a bitch to parallel compute you won't max out any 2nd gen or newer quad core i7 with audio work, so at least ryzen 7 is overkill performance wise DPC latency measurements of the am4 platform are not a thing yet, but if they're consistently good like amd used to be then it might be worth considering for near real time ITB tracking environments too bad the boards seem to only have 4 ram banks so far, since moar ram is still the most important thing for large scale kontakt library shit and similar
Camden Sanders
Do people actually listen to trap or is it just party/dance/raves music?
Any tips for collabing with others? I've been trying to make tracks with (non-electronic) musician friends in person. We tend to just improvise rough shit on top of itself and meme around.
Robert Baker
MIDI noodle/10
Nicholas James
How to make it less noodle?
Chase Young
wayy too on the grid for a natural sounding instrument, loosen that up, also change up your velocity for some parts.
Kevin Harris
Any non-trap kits? You da real mvp.
Nicholas Hughes
Yeah, did just that, and it sounds a lot better. Thanks my dude.
What types synths and trap stuff i can put on this?
Matthew Harris
help
Jordan Torres
Sounds like a 909 kick to me with a lot of space cut out for it in the lows
Hudson King

Yeah, I'm a total noob at drum synthesis, but i'll probably get a better kick some day just playing around. You're probably right about the intro too.
Thank you! It has the midi thing, but i don't use it since the BSP does CV/gate on it's own, so cant tell if it's any good. Synth has two oscillators but i did record everything separately, since i used both for some sounds (and programmed everything on the same sequencer like an idiot).
Nathan Torres
what is, in /prod/'s opinion, the most complete 25 key midi controller out there? i wanted to like pic related, but actually the quality seems really shitty
Adrian Phillips
what advantages does albeton have over fl studio? I have both and ableton just feels needlessley complicated to do the exact same things.
Owen Young
max for live session view an usable interface
Parker Ross
very cool info. but how much RAM does one really need? More than 16g? I've never messed with kontakt.
Jonathan Long
>an usable
Luis Gonzalez
I'm interested in producing meme house stuff similar to Ross From Friends, Slim Hustla and etc. Coming from producing hip hop instrumentals, the transition has been really challenging for some reason. Do you guys have any tips? Especially for sampling if possible. I'm using FL Studio 11 btw.
Samuel Martin
switch to ableton
Sebastian Powell
Where you know that guy in pic from
Aiden Myers
Why people say its so hard to get a good mix and takes so long to get actually good at it? Is there more to mixing & producing than panning, adjusting volumes, EQ'ing and using compressors, limiters and effect plugins?
Jeremiah Scott
Why?
Christian Reyes
I'm the guy in pic.
Camden Collins
How you doing Dâniel? in pic i gues
Christian Watson
why are you so skeptical dâniel? you wanted advice, i gave you advice
>that link what is that god forsaken shithole? please get out of this website.
Zachary Ward
Whats the problem? Just dont want to use clyp.it cause theyre expiring the files after 24h now
Chase Bell
because it's hard to know when to stop adding processing
you can have >too much eq >too much compression >too much reverb >too much limiting/clipping >too much stereo widening
and not to mention >too many parts since most mixing in professional music is actually done in arranging/recording/sound design most people end up pulling their hair out trying to make their mixes work with an impossible set of instruments/parts.
it's just hard sometimes to know where you went wrong, and it's doubly hard to "kill your darlings" and nix stuff that doesn't work. Finally, most people trying to get "good mixes" are just working with bad songs and they blame the mix for it sounding lifeless when the track is just repetitive and dull.
Josiah Phillips
I'm a bit late to reply but is max for live really good? How flexible is it for making sounds? I've made synths in simsynth and such, but never made things from scratch.
Easton Taylor
i guess what i am trying to say is go post your shit music to your shit chan
Tyler Nelson
Whats so hard about it?
>eq Just do the adequate bass cuts, cut excess frequencies that are mudding up or getting in the way of other instruments and do little boosts where needed. >compression Just get everything loud or natural and uncompressed >reverb Just a minimal touch to get stereo ambience, and a bit of actual reverb on vocals and leads >too much stereo widening Why care
Alexander Price
I already did are you retarded? lmao
Connor Allen
ableton impulse has built in saturation and timestretch thats the only difference i can think of without looking in the manual
Logan Turner
ok, good don't come back!
Zachary Russell
max for live is actually very good but kind of hard to learn imo you can make your own audio/midi plugins or make synthesizers with it so its very flexible
Levi Hall
I'll never leave these lands There are boards left on this site where people still dont hate me
Owen Peterson
I wish there was the same thing on linux with puredata and bitwig, but I should look up at the plugins who are supposed to do that. you can pretty interesting sounds by messing with taking basic chorus or phaser patch and adding sine lfos and arithmetic operators everywhere
Anthony Murphy
why are you so mad about other chans
the only garbage chan is infinity
Joshua Carter
55chan IS trash
Jason Johnson
imagine not being able to ignore, filter and hide brazilians
Zachary Murphy
>Is Cubase's native Halion ONE good enough for virtual instruments sounds? Only for things in the background, they dont sound to good as a main instrument. Depending on the genre though.
For pop/electro, most of them sound allright enough, but if you're looking for something that sounds like it's played by a human, Halion is nowhere near.
You better look around for kontakt libraries for that specific instrument you're looking for.
Nicholas Gomez
I am brazilian I am brazilian I am brazilian huehuheuhuehuehuehue 55chan.org/mu/src/1488569857186.ogg this is my music i'm flooding your chan lalalalalalalalalalala your so loved /prod/ is being polluted and you can do nothing about it
Jaxson Edwards
i think you can make usable puredata devices with juce framework like you are wanting you should look into it
Lucas Morales
Do you think vocals fit right in this one? What do you think about the vibe of this track? Grooveable at all?
