Was Drive good by accident?

I've seen the Pusher trilogy, Bronson, Valhalla Rising, Drive, and Only God Forgives.

Drive was his worst by far.

How does one make a good film purely by accident? You sound like you're under the impression that a film is only made by 1 person, and that decisions are not made at any point in a production at all.

Only God Forgives is a 30-minute film stretched out to 90. It's worthwhile only for the visuals, music, and hilarious campiness. Same thing could be said for Neon Demon really.

Valhalla Rising is basically a Tarkovsky-fellating version of OGF.

Bronson and Pusher are good though, that's true.

All of that aside, Drive is still his worst movie. How do you cope?

How is Drive his worst movie?

>most entertaining
>best soundtrack
>shocking and unexpected bursts of violence
>satisfies as both a popcorn flick and a work of art

Anyone who thinks Only God Forgives and Neon Demon are better clearly has no concept of restraint.

Bronson is the only movie of his I can see an argument for being better.

>most entertaining
translation: it felt the most like a Hollywood movie
>best soundtrack
translation: I have shit taste in music
>shocking and unexpected bursts of violence
translation: Violence is cool and epic when it shocks you.
>satisfies as both a popcorn flick and a work of art
translation: I use phrases like "popcorn flick" unironically.

Hit the bricks, kid. Go back to that Game of Thrones thread I know you're posting in.

Nicolas Winding Refn, Zack Snyder and Terrance Malick are the three best directors in Hollywood.

Tarantino, Cronenberg and David Lynch get honorable mentions.

Prove me wrong.

>Was Drive good
No.

You didn't provide one reason why I'm wrong.

>your entire post
translation: I just got into film and I think slow movies with neon lighting are automatically profound

Based on OP's answers, you guys are being baited, also, always remember that OP is a faggot.

Sup Forums here

the music is not bad tbqh

>translation: it felt the most like a Hollywood movie
Good, because Refn is incapable of satisfying on any other level.

Malick is great, Snyder is a hack, and you don't watch any foreign cinema

He's actually a genius.

>You'll never be confident in front of an audience and tell jokes that make everybody laugh
>You'll never have your film selected for the Cannes film festival and get the best director prize
>You'll never kiss Elle Fanning and get kissed by Ryan Gosling
>You'll never be tall
>You'll never have an encyclopedic knowledge on genre films
>You'll never total creative freedom
>You'll never direct a cult classic at 24 after dropping out of the best film school of your country

Stay mad, OP. Refn will be remembered as a subversive genius.

>in Hollywood.

And Snyder is a solid pleb filter. If you think he's a hack you're probably a pleb.

People calling him an idiot are the people who didn't know about him existing pre-Drive.

You're just proving his point.

>the contrarian side of Sup Forums suddenly decides that Drive is bad

absolutely disgusting.

>in Hollywood
My bad.

If you think Snyder has any idea what he's doing, you're the pleb. Why doesn't he make anything other than poorly done capeshit if he's so talented?

>poorly done
>Snyder films

Mutually incompatible.

I've seen Drive, Bronson, and Only God Forgives, and I'm looking forward to The Neon Demon. I intend to eventually go back and wash the Pusher trilogy and Valhalla Rising, both of which I've heard are good.

I've yet to be disappointed by any of his movies.

Who are some other directors I might like that are similar to Refn?

Terrance Malick. David Lynch. David Cronenberg. Zack Snyder. David Fincher to some degree.

Which Refn film is the most Refn?

Maybe check out the giallo genre? It's focused on colors and violence. Besides OGF, you've seen the least "Refn" Refn movies. Definitely watch Valhalla Rising, it's my favorite of his, and is much less conventional

Thanks. I really should watch some Lynch. I liked Twin Peaks, after all.

>giallo
I'll look into it. Thank you.

Never made a bad film.

My Life with Nicolas Winding Refn
It's so Refn it was directed by his wife

No, he`s one of us.

Ryàn Gôçling

>good by accident

Despite my massive neon-boner I didn't like Drive first watch.

Second watch it was kino.

I wonder why.

Why doesn't he grow a beard like George Lucas? He has the saddest fucking chin.

He only made one bad movie: Only God forgives, and even can have arguments made for it being good.

The pusher trilogy is great.

Valhalla rising is pretty good.

Bronson is great.

Drive is kino.

The neon demon was pretty good.

OP, your making him out to be a Shamylan style "made one good movie, and everything else is sub par" kind of guy, when most of his movies are well above average.

delete this

Only God Forgives is his best film.

Maybe hanging out with Elle turned him into a man.

pleb detected

>Doesn't recognize that Only God Forgives is Refn's best film
>Calls other people plebs.
